I just LOVE Tommy. He’s just the sweetest, big fluffy guy. The salutatory bonk is sweet, but nothing beats him “standing guard” as Sophie journals under the bureau.
Sophie is going to her safe space. After her ordeal that is quite understandable. But, what happened to all the glitter that was on her? Any ideas, anyone?
Disappointing. I wanted to see more derring-do, with Gutter and Sophie escaping together while sirens howl and searchlights hunt for them. And more grappling hook.
I like that Sophie has a very small, single sheet of paper to journal all her adventures on. Wouldn’t that be interesting to see what gets written? Maybe she uses kitty-code.
Now that Sophie is home I can tell a funny story that didn’t seem appropriate before. Several years ago my Mese fell out of a window through a loose screen just like Sophie did. I saw it happen and was able rescue him from the bushes outside. He was a little stunned but unhurt. However as soon as I put him down inside he took off running and made a flying leap at the screen and flew out again. Wheee!!! He managed to play that game a few more times before I finally was able to really secure that screen – and figured out to close the window.
This one seemed to wrap up rather quickly compared to Georgia’s usual story lines. Not that I’m really complaining since my anxiety level is finally dropping, but WHERE’S GUTTER????
Awwww. So genuinely sweet. And a relief as while I’ll still check this space every day, it’s no longer so dang tense. Great arc but man it was not nice to see das girl in peril
How perfectly Sophie! I’m happily looking forward to the wrap-up of this story. I’m also wondering how this experience will impact Sophie’s next art project. (Good old floofy Thomas! He’s the best.)
Great story- just enough tension. I loved the part where Sofie thought she was too frightened to help but when she knew the raccoon needed her she came through!!!
Celebration! She is home! Salutatory bonks and paper throwing are definitely in order, although Sophie understandably seems to prefer something more low-key.
Oh thank heavens. Now I can finally sleep again at night, after the month long time frame it took to tell this story line.
And for all of you faithful readers of BCN, if you have yet to read War and Peace or Anna Karenina by Tolstoy, you have no excuse not to not read one or both of them as they will not take as long as this story line did.
I’m so disappointed in other people, sigh. If you may recall, Barb’s ex, Richard, adopted an injured stray tux kitten late last year that I had the “good fortune” to rescue. Not having the resources for her medical care at the time, I ignored my alarm bells. Now, after nearly a year of caring and really bonding with her, he is giving her to a shelter because the schmuck is moving to Chicago to be with some woman who may or may not really want to be with him. His apartment, in Willamette, allows cats. But he doesn’t want to drive 600 miles with her. I am so angry with him right now. I can’t take her, there would be too much stress for our Roy and Poody, ( I cat sat her twice for a week each time he went out to Chicago to meet this woman) it was a mess keeping them apart and locking Puddin’ in the office with her own thing. Not only that, but I got a good bite on my hand from Roy because I tried to keep him from attacking her for my efforts during her last stay. If I could have kept her as a kitten, there was a good chance she would have integrated into our family. Now that poor cat is getting her heart broken. He told about how much she missed him the last time he came back. What a fu$%^^&g jerk! The woman claims to be an animal lover, he won’t be living with her. And because of his age 78 and signs of cognitive decline, he doesn’t understand that these women he meets as romantic interests all have put him in the “friend zone” because of his condition. This woman is home bound and does not go out. He imagines spending all of his time with her, but there are signs she is cooling to him. If she found out, he gave up such a nice kitty cat….
Any predictions from the orb re: a grand romantic gesture in this story arc before the end of the week? Mine would be a certain trash panda making an appearance beneath Sophie’s window with a boombox and li’l starfish squeaker.
I’m home! I’m under my bureau again. It feels so good to be here with my best friend Thomas. And guess what Diary, I have friends. They care enough that they came looking for me. They searched. Burt hacked the security system. They found me. They cut the power for me. Gutter brought his grappling hook and the Robber Mice did a wonderful job artistically messing up that woman’s home. Which gives me artistic ideas but that’s for a later time."
Sophie may be home, but I suspect there is more to this story….
After all, Gutter and Sophie each were involved in the other’s rescue and they are well-mannered enough to say thank you. Who knows where that conversation will lead.
What shelter pet will soothe Tidy Woman’s grief and end her loneliness (and bad decisions)?
I wonder, will the little Starfish be rescued and come to stay with Sophie … or will it perhaps remain at the tidy house to welcome and comfort whatever new pet joins the household? Shelter pets have often come from very traumatic situations (some have lost their loving people, while others have been discarded by the ones who should have loved them); many need some time and love to acclimate to a new home.
When we rescued Conan, he latched on to a squeaky tennis ball and seldom let it go unless he was asleep; for that first week or two, he held it in his jaws and squeaked it over and over again, whimpering all the time.
Nobody seems to have mentioned celeriac, or celery root/celery knob. It is the large round root of celery, and there are a couple good recipes for it, such as a slaw, on Google. It’s a pain to peel, but it’s a very delicate flavor. Very nice.

John Denver: Back Home Again
There’s my best friend Tommy with salutatory bonk
There’s my pen and paper for journaling
Underneath the bureau, protected from all the junk
I’ll write and tell my story as Iggy sings!
…….
Hey, it’s good to be back home again
It feels so long I’ve been away,
And missing all my friends
Yes, and hey it’s good to be back home again!
…….
I have a few found objects, projects do await
Puck and even Elvis is pleased
The Robber Mice are planning
To once again tempt fate
And there is Lupin and Ora Z!
…….
Hey, it’s good to be back home again
It feels so long I’ve been away,
And missing all my friends
Yes, and hey it’s good to be back home again!

Well, I found a deli ,Mr.Bean’s Deli. When I told him what the party was about he even offered to provide everything for free.
So, we have the finest selection of cheeses, pepperoni, ham, and summer sausage. Well, looks like he even included boneless chicken wings.

Elvis: They have a surplus of potatoes, and want to know if we would like some.
Puck: Let’s ask Sue Chef.
Sue: Sure. We can always find recipes for potatoes. In fact Ora Z has been perfecting her slicing skills. We can have potato chips.
