Puffed out Lupin is awesome. Ora Z giving him the business is awesome, but they lose out to the ultimate cuteness of Iggy playing in the box. Bucket and shovel in hand, whistling a tune as well!
That last panel of Iggy making sand castles in the litterbox breaks the cuteness scale. One of our neighbors, who had six kids, built a huge sandbox in his back yard. It was probably about 8 ft by 8 ft. Even though there were quite a few free range neighborhood cats, they never used it as a litter box—probably because the concept of a litter box was still foreign.
I know it’s just coincidence, but I’m getting a giggle over the cats arguing about age on my birthday. (Fifty-two. Which isn’t bad for some the doctors said would never make it to twenty.)
And speaking of old and middle age, the oldest living relic is Baba Mousey. She so old that she was middle age when ancient aliens first come to planet earth.
Lupin reminds me of the coworker who mourned her 30th birthday. I thought that was so silly. That’s when I demanded the gag gifts, black roses, and such. Sure enough, when 30 rolled around, I got them, including a fake black rose and a Grim Reaper mug (“Relax. I’m just here for the cake. Happy birthday!”) I still have them, 27 years later.
What’s so d*mned troublesome about not havin’ died?— Adm. McCoy, Star Trek: TNG
Ora Zella keeps her paws fastidiously clean. Let’s watch her demonstrate. One, two, three, four, ……. one hundred … two hundred. Note how her little pointy tail helps her keep count.
Ora Zella has also learned the look of “misplaced confidence” that Goldie is using. See page 190 of “Lupin Leaps In” (oh, the irony of this on today’s strip) to see how it’s done.
I had a kitty (Thelma) – who outgrew it, thankfully – who would lay in the litterbox, paws tucked under. She and her sister (Louise) were also tended to be like OZ – digging a hole, covering, covering some more, (kicking litter out of the box), very noisy the entire time. My two nowadays (Lucy & Linus) like the challenge of trying to see how much litter they can track off of the large (2×3) litter mat outside of their box.
Iggy playing in the litter box…! My Squeee can be heard across the pond at y’all’s new King party. I’m almost too overcome with his cuteness to comment on the triple shot of toebeans (plus another in diff panel).
Iggy does his business, flicks a little litter over, and is in his way. Punto carries on like he’s burying Bluebeard’s treasure. You’ll never find it without a map!
Ha ha ha! I love it! Sweet Iggy(not) playing in the litter box! And(not) middle aged Lupin, puffing out! I was trying to decide what kind of flower he was, since Elvis is a sunflower…a white mum, comes to mind!
Roy is the most fastidious, when it comes to the box, but is not above drinking out of the toilet. With Poodle, the box is optional and only if I take her, or escort and lift her. And like Pickle she won’t dig or bury it. Just nursed her through a bladder or kidney infection. Poody is a Showshoe, and I am just learning are prone to kidney issues. If that’s the case, I need to switch her dry food to something less budget friendly and more Cat friendly
Nothing to say about this one, the way the characters bounce off each other is just hilarious! I remember Georgia saying Goldie was when they adopted her either three or nine with great teeth, so hard to say if she is indeed middle-aged.
It is immensely satisfying to see lupid razzed about his age after the MANY shots he’s taken at Elvis for being old. And immensely adorable to see Iggy playing.
When Oopsie finally came to live with me and he was out of the crate (to acclimate him), I didn’t have to worry about him using the box. He’s since calmed down, but he would literally make MOUNDS. He was just so happy that he could finally properly bury.
How is it that no matter what Iggy does, what he gets into, whether he sings or yowls, he is just plain adorable. Tho I think I’ll qualify a hug right now.
I hear ya, Goldie. I’m also fine with being middle-aged. ❤ It’s a good time of life. Most of the uncertainties have been resolved, and a lot of hard won wisdom is at my disposal. I’m finally happy with my life’s path and where it’s heading. (๑′ᴗ‵๑)

Belinda Carlisle: Circles in the Sand
Lupin makes Goldie grin
Arguing about everything
Puck sighs, Elvis goes by
Iggy is not up to anything.
…….
You know, where all cats go there.
Iggy innocently sings
Staying right out of the fight
While a few toys he brings.
…….
Playing in the sand
Iggy’s found
The fun of sand castles all around
Let the adults fight, he will be alright
A bucket and shovel is all he needs
Playing in the sand!
…….
Ora Z calls it as she sees
She must do her thing
Washing one hundred times,
Young cats like to sing!
…….
You know, where all cats go there.
Iggy innocently sings
Staying right out of the fight
While a few toys he brings.
…….
Playing in the sand
Iggy’s found
The fun of sand castles all around
Let the adults fight, he will be alright

Playing in the sand!

Iggy: This is a great guitar. I think we can all be proud of a job well done.
Iron Glove: Do you now when the Red Planet Spider will arrive in the harbor?
Iggy: It should be any day now, depending on the shipping conditions.
Mandy, Master Luthier: Here comes someone who can tell us the latest.
New Person: According to the shipping report, weather conditions should be calm with a favoring wind for the next few days.
Lynn, Master Luthier: Thank you, Lady Bale.
Iggy: I think we’ve earned some well-deserved time at the Nama Bay Beach.
Wally: Ooh, I can’t wait to make sand pyramids.
Iggy: Let’s invite Beatrixia and Ora Z.

Have you seen this?
“1-800-Flowers.com MomVerse” has a free “AI-powered composer that creates personalized poetry, inspired by you”:
https://www.1800flowers.com/account/momverse
When I plugged in a request for a song for Lupin, who likes (1) “being young”, (2) “ham” and (3) “trouble”, the AI composer returned this:
“LUPIN
Verse 1:
Young and vibrant, Lupin’s in the house
Likes to live life free, no need to grouse
Passion for ham, it’s always on the mind
Juicy and delicious, it’s hard to decline
Verse 2:
Running in circles, full of energy
Playful and lively, for all to see."
