I have a feeling Queen Mag will get the raccoons reorganized and hopefully mount a serious fight. In the meantime, really enjoying these night skies.

It’s called a strategic withdrawal. They’re after re-enforcements to retake their land.

We once had a mole in our yard when I was a kid. I was hitting tennis balls against the garage wall one day, and he poked his head up. I whacked him with the tennis racket and that was that. My father, who had been working months trying to rid his yard of this beast was half proud/relieved that I was able to do this, but also half upset that he’d worked so hard and all it took was a tennis racket.

Dr. Scuttles, July 12: "While I am not ordinarily one to follow that dreadful cat broadcast, the news they are reporting on today is echoing through the neighborhood, fields, and forest alike… So, I am tuning in. For now. Out of interest for my longtime friend Old Mag.

    Terrible business.

I am slightly acquainted with this Montague fellow, through another old friend who has spoken of him at length. I never heard much of his personality or ambition, more just his eager quality of being a good listener.

Seems a bit lost on this situation, I don’t see it at all.

Old Mag and I go back many years, though. Would that I could chew through my backyard fence, I would be at her side in a moment.

Montague, you are OFF my Christmas card list!

And before even your first season, the ink is still wet.

Bah, no great loss to me, clearly.

This is why I avoid friends of friends; clearly my old friend is a very poor judge of character (though I knew that already.)"

So much detail! In panel 1, I count 19 moles. In panel 3, Old Mags has switched both chickadee cans to 1 shoulder. In panel 4, flight lines show both birds returning to their tomato can gun turrets.

    *Nena: 99 Luftballo.ns (99 Red Balloons)

Mags and subjects at the dumpster

The alarm toots and the moles are all there

    Conflict ensues, defense is futile

Mags awakes, decides what to do

Let’s go, regroup, head for the wilds

    We’ll protect every racoon child,

    While underneath a lovely sky

    99 jerky moles go by!

    …….

    Every mole’s a pirate, too

    Under Captain Montague!

They think they have the upper hand,

But Mags still is in command

The moles can still be beat,

We’ll just organize a quick retreat

    While underneath a lovely sky

    99 jerky moles go by!.

She has a canny look on her face there. I would imagine this is a calculated retreat rather than an organized flight. The raccoons are not licked yet.

Yesterday, GSDMom posted that 10/2/19 is our first introduction to the raccoons. For any newbies, this is where Goldie is introduced into the story. More recently, they were involved with Beatrix (I don’t have the dates) As always with Georgia, it’s fascinating to watch the development of the characters.

    OT: Happy Birthday, Mom!

Today is my mom’s 90th! I’m taking her out to lunch today, but the big party is on Saturday. We have at least 50 family members & friends coming from as far away as Michigan & Tennessee for dinner at a local restaurant. Sis & I had originally planned for Dutch treat, but mom insisted on paying for it (“It’s only money & I won’t miss it”) & who were we to argue? She also said, “If I’d known sooner, we could have gotten the church fellowship hall & had it catered.” OK, mom, we’ll do that for your 100th…anyhoo, we’re all excited!

Back in January Dr. Scuttles tweeted “My monthly-or-so letter has arrived from Wicket. He has elaborated on his new friend at the Quinn Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. They are a small mammal, which surprises me to hear, but hopefully they know enough to stay out of talon’s reach from Wicket.”

and in replying to someone who asked “I wonder if the new friend might be a porcupine or hedgehog.”, he said “My impression has been that it is an even smaller creature, if that can be believed. Surprising, for Wicket.”

    Georgia plays a long game.

Falling back to the Wildlands…could this mean that an alliance between the Raccoons and their old rivals the Oppossums may possibly be in the making? If so, the moles may quickly be facing something they’d be regretting big-time!

O, then, I see Queen Mab hath been with you.She is the fairies’ midwife, and she comesIn shape no bigger than an agate-stoneOn the fore-finger of an alderman,Drawn with a team of little atomiesAthwart men’s noses as they lie asleep; Her wagon-spokes made of long spiders’ legs,The cover of the wings of grasshoppers,The traces of the smallest spider’s web,The collars of the moonshine’s watery beams,Her whip of cricket’s bone, the lash of film,Her wagoner a small grey-coated gnat,Not so big as a round little wormPrick’d from the lazy finger of a maid; Her chariot is an empty hazel-nutMade by the joiner squirrel or old grub,Time out o’ mind the fairies’ coachmakers. And in this state she gallops night by nightThrough lovers’ brains, and then they dream of love;O’er courtiers’ knees, that dream on court’sies straight,O’er lawyers’ fingers, who straight dream on fees,O’er ladies ’ lips, who straight on kisses dream,Which oft the angry Mab with blisters plagues,Because their breaths with sweetmeats tainted are:Sometime she gallops o’er a courtier’s nose,And then dreams he of smelling out a suit; And sometime comes she with a tithe-pig’s tailTickling a parson’s nose as a’ lies asleep,Then dreams, he of another benefice:Sometime she driveth o’er a soldier’s neck,And then dreams he of cutting foreign throats,Of breaches, ambuscadoes, Spanish blades,Of healths five-fathom deep; and then anonDrums in his ear, at which he starts and wakes,And being thus frighted swears a prayer or twoAnd sleeps again. This is that very MabThat plats the manes of horses in the night,And bakes the elflocks in foul sluttish hairs,Which once untangled, much misfortune bodes:This is the hag, when maids lie on their backs,That presses them and learns them first to bear,

I think finding a nice black snake will solve this mole problem. At least it did in my front yard when the snakes moved in. They do upset my kitties when they sun themselves on my front porch though. My feral wants to go out and kill the snakes but the largest black snake stares back through the glass thinking the littlest kitty looks like a nice snack.

Meanwhile, we have yet to hear of the response from the people – after all, it’s their yard that’s been overturned! Will we see the introduction of a new human – the (no doubt humane) pest removal person? Or (with apologies to Robin) are they already doomed?
