Bets is grossly manipulative – however too interesting of a character to phase out of the Luann troupe. So hopefully (1) Gunther stands up to Bets and she backs down; or (2) Gunther & Bets break up – but Bets has some involvement with others in the cast. Maybe Bets will help Tiffany get rich.

What a manipulator! She could have offered to go get some food instead of fabric. I think they will go to the dinner and she’lll be so obsessed with making the video Gunther will finally see how shallow their relationship is. Just think Bets, recording your break up would generate a huge audience!

Bets is the new Ann Eiffel. She’s self-centered, narcissistic, manipulative and overall, a user and not a team player. And like Ann she’s a business major who plays on her sex appeal to get what she wants. Of course al this applies to Tiffany, the original bete noir of the strip.

Gunther needs to grow a spine and declare all Bets are off!!

The spectacle is so miserable than Les go away so Punk don’t has to see it. Bets can manipulate Gunther like a piece of play-doh! Gunther needs to follow the advice of the wise man with the gray cat. Because yes, in this situation Les is the wise one! I wonder how many times he saw Bets doing this with Gunther. I love her, but this is really bad!

The problem I have is that like the arc with Tara and her cousin this will take 3 weeks or more to run it’s course and the end result was that Tara fell asleep on the couch. It’s like they start a story and realize they have no idea where they are going with it and just end it and move on to the next arc. This has been a week and is it a Tiff story? A Bets story? TJ? So far the only person who has said anything of meaning is Les and the cat.

Les is like a narrator in a film whom the characters don’t see or hear, but the narrator predicts what is coming up. Gunther doesn’t hear Les’ little side comments.

For years, Gunther has been passively accepting the misfortunes in his life. He wasted four years in Peru, sewed Toni’s wedding dress for free, quietly suffered his mother’s marriage to slimy “Uncle” Al, and put up with living in the “Gulag” with his arch-enemy. Now, when he suddenly asserts himself, smarmy Bets emasculates him again. Gunther, try following Nancy Reagan’s advice: “Just say NO!”

Les knows the score. Remember, he dated Bets once.

And she’s going to make Gunther do all this work, he’s going to fall behind in his schoolwaork and get stressed out – and then they’re going to show up in their silly looking silk and velvet frou-frou pirate outfits and find out that Tiffany’s got the place laid out for a fancy, classy dinner with no pirate stuff in sight.

That might be the best line Les has ever spoken in this strip.

At the end of the movie, the woman there was only pushy when it mattered.

Seems that they painted the wall in panel 2, didn’t like the colour, and then re-painted back to the original colour for the third panel. I didn’t know Gunther painted too! No wonder he’s tired. With all that painting, they took away the blue chair that Les was sitting in yesterday.

I would hate to see the only good relationship break up.

it does seem that this is the 2nd of two relationships (the 1st being Quill and Luann) that may end up in the ditch because one person is making a lot of demands, scheduling things and being generally dominant while the other just wants the realtionship worked into his/her existing life. If Quill ever returned, he and Gunther might have some things to discuss.

Bets has seemed iffy to me from her first appearance, and for a long time now straight-up annoys me. I really miss Delta! She was a great complex-but-fun character, and I would have thought that she’d at least be writing letters to Luann about her new life.

I suppose we’re supposed to feel sorry for Gunther. But if he does start making these costumes, that’s on him. And I still don’t get why Bets, a college student, wants a pirate-themed fancy dinner date, with (apparently) just two people wearing costumes and eating leeks, it’s totally bizarre!

I am not fond of Bets’ actions and behavior at the moment. I am also not fond of Gunther’s appearance of being “swooned” into doing Bets bidding because she is going to “buy the fabric”.

The reality is that there appears to be NO damn teamwork between these two at the moment, and no real “teamwork” or “support” between Bets and Tiffany neither. This arc is REALLY making Bets out to be a “user” type individual, and I do not like having that be a part of her character.

She is using people… for what seems to be her own “social media” gain. She does it in a way that is vastly different than the other big “user” we know of in this strip….. Annie Eiffel….. but this is arc is painting Bets out to be a “user”.

I am really not sure why Greg is choosing this route for Bets. I am not sure what the goals of this arc really will be.

With the recent arc of formerly “bad” girl Tara….. having gone through a redemption of sorts….. it seems we are seeing more and more in this arc how the originally “wonderful” girl for Gunther becomes less and less so.

She says she knows he’s working hard at school, but still makes outrageous demands on his time? Gunther needs to set her straight, and soon. Classes move on apace!
