This raises a good point, so I’ll put the question out there: how long does your gf/bf need to avoid you like this until you would consider yourself dumped and free to pursue love elsewhere? There’s gotta be a limit, right?

It’s a sure Bets we’ll shift arcs this week. Maybe Gunther and Les can together on this Bets situation better than Luann and Bernice could work together on the Nil situation.

Not to worry Gunther , when Bet’ s need’s something, she’ll be there. Just don’t expect it to be the other way around.

Well, it seems Bets broke up with Gunther if she hasn’t been in contact in weeks. Probably has a new hapless boyfriend by now yet to know he is just a social media prop.

Bets is off somewhere metamorphosing into a beautiful and doted butterfly. Totally attracted to Gunther like a moth to a flame. Abandoning her web persona she will have become totally submissive to Gun and his needs. Yeah! Right!

I think this is very depressing. Bets was a shallow selfish user who did not want anything “mushy” with “Gun.” Even if she came back – it could never end well for Gunther who is thoughtful and caring. It is absolutely depressing to see a good person, someone with high book intelligence, so bankrupt on life/relationship intelligence that they get worked over so completely by someone using them, even in a cartoon.

Might have to check out for a while on this arc. Nothing entertaining or redeeming here. Just makes me feel bad.

Gunther, we should call you John Wick because you dodged a bullet getting out of that relationship. Don’t worry though, Bets will contact you… “Comicon” is coming up and she will need a new costume!

In real life it would be evident to everyone that Gunnie has been unceremoniously dumped and he will eventually move on. However, in the world of Luann you know it will not be quite that simple. Perhaps Les and Gunnie get out of the house for a bit and guess who they will run into, and will she be alone or has she moved on already???? Gunnie is not the type of guy who is going to find someone on the rebound but we know next to nothing about Bets besides the fact she said she had some bad relationships before meeting Gunnie. Then again perhaps they reconcile as this strip is a place where the logical does not always happen and there is misdirection at every turn of an arc.

Gunther you are better off.

Another question: has Gunther done anything in the form of a text or phone call? I am not sure if he has, he just says he has not heard from her and I bet he took her request for space as a “no contact” type of thing. However, just because she needs space, it is okay for him to check up on her. If she says: “Go away!” or “I’m sorry its Over!” then he can say that he tried and he is free to go. Maybe Bets finally decides to talk and things could go either way. If it is over you would think Bets could at least send a “Dear John” e-mail but nothing ever comes easy for Gunther.

Don’t let her get you down, Gunth. Never give up! Never surrender!

So, to leave the personal comments behind and go back to the comic here, I think it’s sweet to see Les actually asking Gunther about what’s going on!

Gunther needs to be rescued by TIFFANY !! C’mon Tiff – Your turn to be a friend in need this time.

I think both Les and Gunther are doing their best with the skill sets they’ve been dealt.

I also have to say that for the writers of this strip.

Gunther – I’d think twice about pining for someone who would give you the silent treatment for “weeks.” In her mind, she’s either ended the relationship by driving away and figuratively throwing you to the curb, or she’s giving you the silent treatment and expecting you to do the heavy lifting – apologizing and/or groveling – to set things right. Either way, her silence shows a lack of respect and concern for you.

@kenhense: I may be remembering wrong, but I thought I recalled Gunther telling someone (B?) that he couldn’t be interested in Tiffany because she was not very bright. And while Bets was very self-centered and addicted to her social media stuff, she shared the same interest Gunther has in SF, ComicCons and similar stuff. I honestly don’t think Gunther would feel ‘rescued’ by attention from Tiffany. Besides, right now Gunther shows signs of serious depression; not a good time to try to start a new relationship…

Maybe Bets went to Peru.

Weeks with no contact at all, eh? Not a good look for Bets.

But, as I understand it, strips are submitted six weeks before publication. The Bernice and Nil show lasted five. That means GnK had plans to go back to Gunther (and, hopefully, Bets) when they had Bets leave Gunther at Weenie World.

Let’s not forget that, the Bets and Gunther saga notwithstanding, the last five arcs all had positive endings. Let’s also not forget that Bernice spent months avoiding her own family, but was welcomed back when she finally went back for dinner.

So, hope springs eternal.

And Black lives matter.

I figured a return to Bets and Gunther’s love story (?) was due,, but the passage of weeks with a pining Gunther and distant Bets is a bit surprising. Being Luannverse though time is digital, story denominated with no relationship to real time. Does Les’s mention of Toy Story and Buzz Lightyear’s famous line give a clue to events coming? I have only hope for something as promising as might be presaged for Bern and Nil to happen to Gunther and Bets.

Are today’s questions from Les a lead-in to his wise advice to the lovelorn tomorrow? That could be the final frontier. Turn up the sound, Gunther… way up!

Poor Gunther. I’m happy to see that he has learned to give space to the girl he loves, but it’s so sad to see him like that. His relationship with Bets seems to be very serious, at least for him. It’s nice to see Les interesting to his sake. But I wonder if Gunther talked to Tiffany after the fight between her and Bets. I think her help would probably be a better help for him. Plus, it’s bad that two friends leave each other like that, without explanations and because of a third person.

Check all of Bets online crap. That’ll tell you where she’s at.

Gunther, you’re barely 20 years old. This might seem like a big deal, but trust me, it isn’t…. At your age, it’s the same thing as not making the cut for the high school basketball team. It may seem like the end of the world, bit it isn’t. In fact, I hope this really does mean that Bets is out of your life forever. She’s a user, not to mention manipulative, shallow, and only gives a crap about herself.

He is in the TV room, but is cramping his neck/back/owie to use a laptop instead.

Face it Gunth. You were never more than a stage prop for her YouTube channel. You and Tiffany are worlds apart, but seem to have a symbiotic relationship. Go for it.

Well, Bets may show back up (I hope not), but the G Man needs to realize that he was just a pawn in her game. That was apparent in her departure. Annnddd, since she been gone weeks now, will it take weeks to see Nils reaction to Buttnice’s advances? Resolution is not one of this strips achievements. Where’s Brad & Toni? What happened to Tara? Aussie got dropped like a hot potato. Who’s Ann Eiffel grifting now? Does the Fuze still offer entertainment with Pru gone?

I wonder what Gun wanted from the relationship? Was he thinking marriage in another 3 years (after graduation)? Has he even thought about staying in school post baccalaureate ?Would they stay in area? Would they move to accept a job offer for him? Or move to accept a job offer for her? I am just wondering He seems pretty broken up for someone who didn’t think this all out.

I really like Les! I think him and Punk are my favorite characters and he is a good friend to Gunther. Gunther needs to move on. Maybe Les can explain to him how Bets was just using him as a media prop. Hope so.

This strip is now exactly like an episode of a soap opera. At the dramatic pause in one arc, new arc jumps in.

Better to learn her true feelings sooner than later.

Why did 20+ posts suddenly disappear?

My first thought seeing this strip was to wonder how his academics are doing. Clearly he’s not back to hitting the books and I wonder whether he blew his exams after spending his time sewing costumes for Bets.

Give the shirt back to Jeremy Duncan, Guns, and let that stubble grow back. Then hit the singles bar in some other strip, since nobody drinks in DeGrootville. Get Les to show you around.

Three weeks of being ghosted pretty much says it all. Time to move on.

Oh now I really don’t like Bets!!!!! She left him stranded and in all this time she’s never contacted him. What a coward! I don’t care if the L word scares her to death she needs to give him a call! Want to bet she’s already replaced him with someone else to be in her posts and videos?

All he needs to do is check her IG page and he can see all her theatrics for himself. She used him like a prop, and it’s disgusting. It’ll be gut punching to see the truth, but it’s the purge that needs to happen so he can heal and meet real love and not a “virtual-celebrity-in-her-own-mind” someday.

The first 2 weeks after a breakup are the hardest. It gets easier after that. Gunther should fill his life with other activities and other people.

I would say to Gunther, “good riddance”. Babs is probably a nice girl, but she would have to go. Seems like she is only about herself. Although when I was young, I mooned over a couple of relationships that were made in hell. Given the story line of the comic strip, Babs will probably return and it will be love ever after.

I went out with a guy for 6wks 30yrs ago. Then he didn’t call me for 6mns, and then he started calling again. I was always at work when he called, so Big Al liked me, and I should call him back. I never did. He finally called when I was home. I was so mad because of how long it had been since I heard from him and my stepmom badgering me. I was worse than nasty to him. I felt terrible afterward, but I was just so mad, I did it without thinking. Then he gave my number to a friend the next New Year. The truth is, if both of us were thinking straight, we would have walked out on one another on the first date.

Ok, Gunther, lets close this chapter and open a new chapter in a new book elsewhere. This book is already closed and done with. Sometimes it’s best to take a gentle hint instead of a ‘Not so-nice’ gentle one. Just take the lessons-learned and move on. Who knows how fate and lady luck may smile upon you. :)

Bets is gone Gun, consider yourself lucky since she was so selfish

How long has it been since Bets needed some "space’’? The whole Nils sequence ran 5 weeks but actually but most of it happened over two days with an unknown length of time between being invited to the show and going. So somewhere between two days and one week. Plenty of time for Gunther to still be moping. Why hasn’t he called her? Because she asked for space implying that she will call when she is ready. Why hasn’t he checked up on her social media? Why do people not rub salt into a wound. Has Leslie matured? No, he’s an author’s contrivance that exist to explain why Gunther is down in the dumps. Why did Bets bolt after Gunther said “I Love You?” Ah, there’s the rub. Bets is OK with Gunther being a friend (with benefits(?)) But having someone actually being in love with her touches on some past trauma. Was I serious about killing myself? Hardly. I hate pain and the sight of blood. But last month was painfully stupid and this month looked to be even more painful and stupid.

You’re better off Gunther.

Gunther could probably figure out what Bets is doing by checking her social media pages. Her life is an open book in that respect. If she’s dating other guys than he can move on.

Poor Gunther. He deserves a lot better than Bets. He should check out whatever social media she has. Ten to one he’ll find out she’s got some other guy on her arm to parade around. Still, this is sad. Even sadder would be if he got back together with her.

Gunth, you got ghosted. And if Bets appears, don’t let her back into your life. She went from being interesting to being toxic. Still wondering why G&K led Bets down that path. And I got whiplash from the quick change in story arcs. Not really interested in Bossy Bets and Goober Gunther.

As others have already suggested, Gunther can keep tabs on Bets through media. I’m guessing he is resisting doing that. Hopefully due to a mature outlook, but maybe afraid of what he may discover…

Maybe Gunther should go to the Steel City Con (outside Pittsburgh) starting on June 11 to cheer himself up. There will be two actors from the old TV show ‘Mash’ there. And maybe Bets will show up there…
