Important life lesson: People need to take responsibility for their own actions. Bets was jealous of Tiffany; Gunther told Bets he loved her when Bets wasn’t ready to hear it. That’s what went wrong, duh. But sure, let’s take the story to another place that makes no sense. That’s how we roll.
I really don’t agree with Les that it was just the ‘romantic dinner’ that split Gunther and Bets up. I think it was Gunther’s declaration of love, to a woman not ready (for many reasons) to hear that. But Les has no way of knowing that Gunther told Bets he loved her, so he is telling Tiffany what he does know — that Bets hasn’t spoken to Gunther since the dinner. So Tiffany will be consumed with guilt, when she may not really be the responsible party. More and more parallels with the B and Nil situation, where B was consumed with guilt and abandoned Nil in a parking lot…
Bets is as self-absorbed as Tiffany. It was a matter of time before Gunther would make his feelings known, and Bets would not be in control of a situation and would run like an antelope.
Bets created more of the mess than Tiffany did by wanting to please her Internet “fans” and “getting eyeballs” and little else… And the dueling ideas ( pirate vs elegance ) didn’t help…
Bets was very immature and ruined things for Gunther who sewed the costumes and then watched her rage and eat his dinner at the “weenie” restaurant… ( Gunther should have stuck to his studies… )
Then, when he expressed his feelings to Bets, we freaked out and stranded him…
That was Bets’ choice… And Gunther should move on and find another, better, mature, girl…
“Tiffany deserves a serious talking-to as much as Bets and Gunther, and Les is the right person to deliver it. I don’t think Les will consciously try to bring these three clowns together, but he can let fly with his snarky opinions. I can’t see Les reaching out to Bets. Either Les will run into Bets in a Monstro-is-sick level coincidence, or Tiffany will reach out to Bets.”
To be sure, I didn’t predict that Tiffany would be stunned into a stupor upon hearing that Bets and Gunther blew up. But good for her. That is Grade A-level empathy on her part.
Ohhhh, Tiffany. I know from this standpoint, it looks like you had a part in the breakup, but really, you did not. Gunther said the L word and Bets ghosted him. Nothing to do with you. However, it would be good if you go to see Gunther and he might tell you he said the L word and never heard back from her. You might give him some insights as a young woman. And, Tiff, bad idea to call Bets. She WILL blame everything on you, warranted or not. Just let her be.
Can’t blame Tiffany on what happened with Bets/Gunther. The possessiveness and self-centered attributes of Bets made this union doomed from the get-go. It was just a matter of time.
First, NEVER allow Les to the “bearer of bad news.”
Second, its not Bets’ “fault” for what happened. It’s Tiffany’s fault for going along Bets stupid pirate dinner in the first place. If she hadn’t, she and Bets wouldn’t have had that blow up, they would have still been friends, and Bets wouldn’t have dumped Gunther in the parking lot. Plus Tiff would STILL have gotten that “A,” but without “guilt.” But nope. Tiffany had to have that 300 bucks. Greed goeth before a fall.
The question now is, what does Tiffany do next? As much as I would Love for Tiffany to go tearing pell-mell over to Gulag, pick up where she left off at end of 2015’s salamander hunt, go all “Muskrat Love” on Gunny to the point Al calls over and raises Holy Hell that they’re making too much noise, that ain’t ever gonna happen. It would make Me way too happy.
Nah.
Next week, I’m betting a comedy of errors, punctuated by some characters going on guilt trips. Some characters wearing their hearts on their sleeves, with still other characters showing up at the Gulag at the Worst possible time. And by the end of the arc, everybody “buries the hatchet,” and gives peace a chance.
And overall, as Wise Man once said: “Hilarity Ensues.” ;)
And all Tiffany’s joy is goooooone…. Nice to see that she care so much about Gunther (and Bets)♡. I think she will try to get them back together ♡. She will talk with Bets… We’ll see if she succeeds.
Tiffany seems genuinly concerned for….Her freind, Gunther? …..Her friend, Bets? ….Both of them? Either way, she is showing concern for someone other than herself. It is encouraging to see.
The plot is thickening. The tension is becoming unbearable. There are so many loose ends to tie up, relationships to repair. Next week will be the tipping point for all of these characters. Guess it’s time for another week of Shannon the brat to annoy everyone.
Weeeeeeeeelll, except it wasn’t entirely Tiff’s fault. Maybe like 10%. The other 90% belongs to Gunther trying to cool Bets off for that evening, but it backfired on him. Sure, if Tiff adapted to Bets’s request (which I still believe was the right thing to do) it could have been avoided, but end of the day, Gunther is the real source.
How unfair of Les to not only rain on Tiffany’s well-deserved parade, but to imply that a breakup of a toxic relationship is somehow HER fault. Tiffany may still be rather self-centered at times, but I believe she has been slowly but surely emotionally maturing. I think she’ll be empathetic re Gunther. Bets, on the other hand, has full-blown Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Some day a wiser Gunther will look back and see that her act of leaving him was a blessing.
That was pretty skillful (if misdirected) guilt tripping. Who knew that Les could be so passive aggressive? (I wonder whether he learned that from his mother?)
Perhaps Les is slyly suggesting that Tiff could consider Gunther’s situation, as if he’s a thoughtful person towards others, but I don’t think he has ever proved himself to be of any good character, just kinda neutral lately (and a soft spot towards a kitten). He’s still the guy who stole some money to buy a necklace, among other misdeeds…..
Oh, no! Now Tiffany will think Bets and Gunther’s breakup is her fault. I don’t think Les got the whole story or knows that Gunther’s love statement did it. He’s not clarifying anything. Tiffany’s exuberance just got shot down. Who will she go to to apologize for something not her fault? I think she will get involved somehow and things may get worse before they get better. (It always happens in Hallmark movies!) LOL! Maybe the gang will try to console her and they all will get involved, except Les. He’s hands on only in dish water. ;-))
Oh PLEEASE! So town amnesia has struck again and the new Tiffany personality doesn’t remember having the shouting match with Bets on “how to please her man”?? Or how about when she turned and suggested they ask Gunther what HE wanted?? Why is she acting so surprised and remorseful? Les has this one pegged perfectly.
Les is turning into a tolerable character. Good writing G&K. Real pity they can’t change his character to have a vocational background (I admire people with true mechanical skills) and change his hair.
All the female characters have interacted with him have had very positive responses to Gunther. Luann, Bernice, Tiffany, Rosa, Bets… even Nancy and Mrs. Horner, rest her soul, thought highly of him. Crystal, Delta, Diane, Toni Louise, any of the Mooney Uni crowd he met; none had a negative reaction toward him as they have for Les for instance. I don’t remember if Tara, or Ann Eiffel ever met him.
The point is this. What is it about the Gunther character that females go gaga over him but they never pan out? Luann, Bernice, Tiffany, Rosa, Bets have all had romantic inklings toward him. As opposed to Luann who as an adult, has only had Quill get serious over her.
Greg is ever casting Gunther him as some sort of whipping boy. If he remains true to form Gunther and Bets are history and “Gun” will go from “moody roomy” to “gloomy roomy.”
The best I can envision is for Bets to make overtures for reconciliation followed by a difficult relationship in the future.
Actions have consequences. While yes, your dinner might have played a role in the Bets and Gun situation, it was in the parking lot of Weenie World that the bomb was dropped. I think that for the first time, Bets heard the words I love you from someone who actually meant it and it freaked her out.
Two things now with Tiffany. Will she go to her friend Gun or her friend Bets. My guess is Bets. Les told Tiff that Bets hasn’t talked to Gun since that night, so Tiff will know the hangup is on Bets end. Maybe we will get her backstory in an attempt to make her a likeable character again.
But I am surprised Tiff didn’t already know about Gun and Bets, since Tiffany and Bets have at least one class together ….
The vibe that Tiff felt for her romantic dinner A has been totally extinguished by the news delivered that Bets has not talked to Gunther after it. I am late posting so I see the discussion about whether Tiffany caused the apparent break-up or not, but I think that is not the point, rather the fact that the dispute meant that the “romance” part of Tiff’s work went south totally, not what she had in mind. Bets helped her on this project initially, and Gunther is her friend. Might Tiff have actually developed a conscience? Lets see.
My guess: Tiff will visit Gunther because she’s his friend, just as Bets finally shows up with an apology and reconciliation in mind, until she sees Tiff there.
We thus move the nature of the comedy from Three’s Company to Friends, only Gunther is completely innocent, unlike Ross and his “we were on a break” broken record (what is the modern equivalent of a broken record? Hardly anyone has skipping LPs any more).
Bummer. Poor Tiff never had a clue. Not sure how much remorse she feels or should feel, though. She stood her ground as hostess and did the Right Thing rather than doing Bets’s pirate silliness….
Regarding various comments, Tiff and Bets were barely, if at all, friends to begin with, and they parted angrily. Unlikely Tiff would contact Bets about anything…
My ‘do over’ that I mentioned yesterday – just might come true!! …(The ‘do over’ is Tiffany doing a romantic dinner in hopes of getting Gun & Bets back together.)
To be fair to Tiff, I don’t think it was the dinner itself that caused the issue. I think it was Bets ignoring Gunther’s needs and wants to do something Instagram worthy. Gunther told Bets he had no time to sew costumes and Tiffany told Bets what her business project was about. Bets took over everything and the dinner was just the straw that broke the camel’s back.
