This is exactly why I told my employer I was going to work half time so I could spend more time with my daughter. Apparently, I was considered valuable enough they let me do that.
Aww. I’m sad for Tiff; she was so excited about the trip. But, I kinda understand. I mean, Tom’s probably trying to throw himself into his work to get over Ann (I know it’s been awhile for us, but actual timeline-wise he might still be a bit heartbroken; he was going to marry her and was excited about children after all), but this seems like the first vacay in a long time where it was gonna be just her and her dad so the disappointment must hit hard. I don’t think we’ll get back to Bets after such a big revelation a few weeks ago, but maybe she can take Ox or Les? Scandalous! But they’re both good boys at heart and she needs someone to bond with, romantically or not.
I still can’t see why Tiffany couldn’t meet up with her father in Paris on this trip. Yeah, I know they had plans to go to Maui, but Paris is just as good. And Tiff did suggest to Bets a Paris trip a few months ago. Odd that pop didn’t suggest a Paris meet up with daughter. Unless he’s hiding something/Someone.
Speaking of Bets, she would be My go-to “gal pal” for Tiffany to take, for reasons I mentioned Monday.
On the other hand there’s:
A) Dez, who is a World traveler anyway.
B) Crystal, making a joyous happy return.
C) Luann, the wildest of wildcards. Two formerly mortal enemies going on a road trip. But that would kinda be like a cop and a robber sharing the same cell.
D) Nancy DeGroot? Hmm. Wild possibilities there.
E) Bernice or Tara? Out of the question. Tiffany probably doesn’t know Tara. And spending any time with Bernice is like shoving an ice pick in your ear.
My guess is that she’ll spend the week going through her list trying to find somebody to go with her. We’ve just seen Luann declare that she has no life, so it’s probably going to be her. Bernie won’t want to take off without Nil, Bets won’t go without Gunther, and Crystal won’t go without Knute. The southern belle she used to room with has her own boytoy. There’s always Dez, but Dez has probably already hitched a ride on a tramp steamer headed for Morocco. I see now how the Evanses have set this up.
“This merger could be huge” still doesn’t rule out my suspicion that Tom has hooked up with a hot, French upstairs maid. Okay, Tiffany, “guess who’s coming to dinner?”
To me Luann would be logical; Bets and Bernice are otherwise occupied, Luann has no life now. But since when does projected logic work in Luannverse? Later, though I might offer a bet.
Tiff – Way to go! Progress can be painful – but Tiff is slowly learning how to handle life. Also a year’s supply of clothes for a one week trip is too much like the old Tiffany.
Poor Tiff. DO invite girlfriends. I know you want and prefer dad who you hardly see but girlfriends could be fun. I know you tend to be competitive around other girls but this trip could help you see the upside of having girlfriends, that there is no need to compete. What? Who would be interested in Bernice? Dez? You might have competition with Luann and Bets but Bets seems loyal to Gunther. It will help you to realize you and Luann like different types of guys so no need to compete. Go for it!
Maybe Tiff could go with “Mrs.” Horner. Mrs. H. had quite full life back in the day, so for all we know she could have visited Hawaii often, know some great spots off the beaten path, have old friends there with “eligible” sons or grandsons, etc.. (And for her, “back in the day” might mean up to a pretty good age—not so long ago that everything would have changed.) Luann isn’t very busy these days, so I’m sure she wouldn’t mind dropping by Mrs. Horner’s place in the retirement community every now and then to look after Cuddles (formerly Sassy).
Take Luann Tiff and then you two can run into Aaron Hill! Yeah I know Luann is not the most likely invitee as the 2 rarely run into each other anymore. The logical choice would be Bets and perhaps Gunnie (who has not travelled since his Peruvian adventure). If not Bets and her tailor then I would go for a long shot say invite TJ but I doubt if he would shut down KK for that long, but hey everyone needs a holiday, why not the whole KK crew and have Daddy Big Bucks pay the bill!
The dialogue is building up to who Tiff will take to Maui not if she will go. I am going to put my money on Luann as her travel buddy. The name of the strip is Luann. I also think the itinerary will include Aaron Hill.
Or they were supposed to stay for a month or Tiffany has some serious problems with luggage. Tiffany should listen to her father and go with a friend. But who? Every girl she know is probably already gone or has plans. All except… Luann! I really hope they will go together and then casually meet Aaron Hill. That would be really cool! Maybe they will have a nice chat with him in memory of the past. Or maybe they will start their old battle over him again, but in a more mature way. I would really like to see this happen.
The biggest downside to doing a Hawaiian arc is that past history suggests that Greg is not up to it. When Luann and Bernice went to NYC there was virtually no touristy stuff. They didn’t go to the Statue of Liberty. They didn’t stroll down Broadway, eat at a Deli, go to the Guggenheim. About the only thing they did was to try to get into a nightclub when they were obviously underage minors. And whose idea was it that they could get away with that? They had to know that the drinking age is 21, as it is all across the country.
The other road trip was the camping trip which could have had from excitement if they had gotten lost, drenched in a rain shower, wandered around for a day, grumbling about each other before being rescued.
So if they are going to Maui Greg had better gotten some tourism books (AAA does an excellent job) and give us some real Hawaiian local color.
Greg and Karen have been slacking off the last several years. If they are going to bring back Aaron they need to rediscover their “A” game.
Tom’s an idiot. Tunes into signals from his daughter like an avocado tunes to KMET. (Which is to say, not at all.) Time to trash the place again and throw stuff out an upstairs window onto the yard?
I’ve seen the names of Aaron Hill, Crystal & Knute bandied around these comments today. Well then, let’s bring everybody back for a re-union. Delta would be there for a conference. Quill with a traveling theatre troupe. Dez discovering exotic fruits. Piro renting out bicycles on the beach. Prudence on vacation with her gal pal.
If she did go with someone, I wonder how long the arc would be? If the strip wasn’t going to cover the entire trip, I imagine it would be ruined by some comedic happenstance at the airport. And if it did cover the whole trip, depending on who joins her, the story could either be an interesting change of pace or drag on forever. Cross your fingers, people.
Tiff has as much luggage as Lovey Howell did for a three hour tour that left from Hawaii. Is this foreshadowing? Is this GnK’s way of writing her out of the strip?
No, of course not, but that makes more sense than taking her mortal frenemy Luann.
I’d love to see o see her go and take Luann! But I’m thinking she’s probably more likely to choose Steffi Bird over Luann or Bets. She and Bets seem like “ok” friends but they are such different personalities and deep down they really don’t get along all that great. Both are cool girls on their own but they have issues that prevents a deep and real friendship between them.
Dad realizes he’s being a jerk for cancelling – especially at what looks like the last minute (who packs that much luggage weeks in advance?). As much as he’s trying to reconnect with Tiffany, he still puts his job first. He needs to learn a lesson, but Tiffany wants him too much to ignore him and give him a dose of his own medicine. (It would probably take MONTHS for him to realize she wasn’t talking to him anyway.) Why can’t Tiffany have some solid friends to hang when she’s not at work or school? She’s a well developed character now, not the Mean Girl high school villain any more.
Someone mentioned yesterday that she should take a friend to Maui. All that luggage looks like she’s moving there! There’s still time for her to change her mind and go.
Poor Tiffany. She really wanted this vacation, but not because of relaxing in Maui. That part was just the cherry on the sundae. What she really wanted was quality time with Dad.
Tiff goes to work and Luann happens to be there moaning about how Bern has a boyfriend and doesn’t spend time with her, how her life has no direction (and Shannon just choppd up the back of her hair). Tiff seizes the moment…..she’s actually good at that.
I knew a man like this. He was an oil engineer and his job sent him all over the world. His wife raised their three kids alone and lived alone for almost all the time that I knew them. Finally he reached retirement age. He was finally going to get to stay home and spend time with his wife.No sooner had the paperwork come through than she came down with pancreatic cancer. The look on his face when he told me he knew she was dying, is one I never want to see on another person’ face. Ever.
I don’t get this “poor Tiff” stuff; nor do i think Tom is some terrible unfeeling person, though he did plan something with her and is now cancelling but it’s not like they are never together; they live under the same roof now.
Tiff was daddy’s little girl when she was growing up and he took her with him on vacations. But now she’s 19 or 20; when i was her age the last thing i would have wanted was to go on a vacation alone with my father; no doubt that would be the last thing he wanted. Tom isn’t taking the trip away from Tiff rather he’s encouraging her to go and have fun with people her own age. Yes he did pull out on something he had planned with her but she does need to pursue her own life. This could work out to her general advantage.
It is sad that Tiffany doesn’t get the attention she needs from her dad. But at age 20 most children are eager to make their own lives and get away from their parents. My daughter did not want to spend much time with me when she was that age. Maybe Tom knows that Tiffany should be spending more time with her peers than with him.
If Tiffany does wind up going to Hawaii, while I do think it would be a good idea, it does echo that trip Luann and Bernice took to NY in that Luann was originally supposed to go with someone else (Quill) until he cancelled. So in both situations going with friends would be a fallback choice so as not to cancel the trip entirely.
Okay, time for my t wo cents. It has to be LuAnn who goes to Hawaii, because she’d be the most “goggle-eyed” at getting totake a rich person’s vacation.
I’d love to see Crystal again, but I have a hard time thinking of her as wanting to be out in the sunshine.
Bernice would complain that the sun was shining at the wrong angle.
Never mind Aaron Hill,I’m imagining Knute down there as some sort of surfer/beach bumwho lives by his wits.Or like the fat kid in AUSTIN&ALLY—-“guess who got a job at……..”
Why is she lying to her dad? Trying to protect his feelings? Please. It’s not like he had any trouble dumping their plans. She should take Luann and have fun.
Tiffany doesn’t need Luann in order to run into Aaron Hill. Tiffany could go alone and have her own rendezvous with Aaron Hill. Luann will be furious when she hears about it !!!
It would be kind of fun to have Luann run into Aaron Hill in Hawaii. It is hard to imagine that though. I had to look this up, but Aaron said good-bye to Aaron in 2004. That’s a very long disconnect for most Luann readers, maybe not for the diehards on this site, but for the average reader that is a very long time to bridge. Of course, they could have a bunch of flashback panels to try to make it work. It would be a really fun arc, and probably an involved long one. Just not sure it would work for the many not having read those old strips.
By all means, Tiff, GO! But, who would she take with her? I’m not so sure she has any real “gal pals.” Luann? Nah, I don’t think so. Bets? Nah, she’s still doing the horizontal mambo with Gunther. Bernice? Um, nope. Don’t think so. So, what about a GUY pal? The thought boggles the mind to consider any of the current guys. She should go alone and find a nice Hawaiian guy to hang out with. Or she could meet somebody on the plane. But for heaven’s sake, Tiff, don’t just sit in that big old empty house and do nothing! GO!!!
One thing tje last panel of today’s strip proves is the entire Ann Eiffel arc has been forgotten Tiffany did not sell off all her clothes, Father Tom is not broke (for him) and while he was home all the time for Ann he’s on the road all the time, as he was before Ann. It gives Continuity-Freaks whiplash realizing that nothing remains two for more than two weeks.
Poor, lonely Tiff! Abandoned by Daddy in favor of a merger deal, she was all packed for Maui! She will tough it out, somehow, but this constant rejection by Daddy Dearest has got to be taking a toll. I am worried for Tiffany’s well-being….

Vilyehm about 3 years ago
Get dad to take everyone. Package deal. Maybe a tax write-off.
Then on the Big Island, have them all get trapped between two lava flows.
Dez mentions the traditional last resort. “If you can’t do anything else, you can always p—- on it.”
So everyone, male and female, does so.
And as Pele tilts her head back to laugh, she unconsciously changes the flow of lava.
Thus we will have a correction to the common complaint that so many recent arcs have had p—- poor writing.

Never mind Aaron Hill,I’m imagining Knute down there as some sort of surfer/beach bumwho lives by his wits.Or like the fat kid in AUSTIN&ALLY—-“guess who got a job at……..”

Well now we know why Tiffany screwed up.

The jerk apparently doesn’t realize that it wasn’t Maui she was so excited about.

Tiffany is really acting like a champ. I hope she gets to Paris with her dad.

Why is she lying to her dad? Trying to protect his feelings? Please. It’s not like he had any trouble dumping their plans. She should take Luann and have fun.

What DID happen to Crystal and Knute? They get married an move out of state or something?

Tiffany, the quintessential poor little rich girl.

Yeah, if the floor piece in front of the stairs is any indication…

We used to have a song, “One is the loneliest numbet,… two can be as bad as one…”. So have a party and invite everyone who can afford to go.
Luann is optional as she was there before, hitting on Aaron Hill. Maybe she’ll see him again, fat, stoned, and in need of rescue.

Remember, Tiff has shown herself to be a great event planner.

One monogrammed bag and at least one “designer” bag.

Take Crystal. She seems to have vanished from the face of the earth.

For what its worth with Tiff being a brat sometimes, this is so relatable..

GO!!!

Yeah, she was excited about it when she thought YOU were going to be there.

Tiff take Luann and reunite with Aaron Hill. Otherwise, what is the point of this arc?

Poor, lonely Tiff! Abandoned by Daddy in favor of a merger deal, she was all packed for Maui! She will tough it out, somehow, but this constant rejection by Daddy Dearest has got to be taking a toll. I am worried for Tiffany’s well-being….

Tiffany should get her dad to listen to the song: Cats in the cradle.
