Chitter and Chatter need to airdrop copies of Sophie’s Missing Cat poster all over this fancy couple’s fancy lawn, as well as shoving their fancy mailbox full of them.♥
Sophie isn’t the only one missing. Right now, some of the GoComics button ID icons are missing. The little heart or speech bubble icons that used to appear on the notifications to let me know whether it was for a like or a reply are missing. The icon for the heart button to allow me to like this strip is also missing. In the place where it should be, I can see the number 3127. I’ve tried refreshing the page, but so far that hasn’t brought the icons back.
They are rich people who want a prize cat, it seems. Doesn’t seem very ethical to not check on a chip. Sophie doesn’t wear a collar? Does a prize cat need to obey commands, stand a certain way? Don’t these people wonder about her weepy eyes? Comeuppance is needed!
I had to look up the term “being crated” and this is the definition I got from Google:
“A crate for a pet is like a crib, travel sleeper, or playpen for a small child. It is a safe area that can be associated with resting and sleeping.”
I don’t care how “safe” it’s supposed to be, nor how much rest and sleep a pet is supposed to get in it, it’s still a prison. It’s solitary confinement. It’s cruel.
My anxiety is just through the roof with this story line. I can’t help it. I think both Loaner Cat and Beau know too. I usually don’t have both of them in the ‘big chair’ with me in the morning, but the minute I open GC, they’re both in the chair with me while I read this. I know it would ruin everything Georgia has planned, but I want to reach through the screen and grab Sophie and put her back where she belongs.
Beatrixia: Looks like all the sisters met fine cats. Except for the youngest. What happened between her and Pink Lupin?
Elvis-Anum: According to the story, at the end of the Yarn Ball the four older sisters introduced their young cats to Tommy, who was delighted to meet them. But young Ora Zella was nowhere to be found.
Here’s the rest of the story:
Chef Tommy: I’m delighted to meet you, young cats. I am sure you all are fine, upstanding cat men.
Puck: I would like to ask you for Sophie’s paw in marriage, Chef Tommy.
Elvis: And I would like to court Tabitha, who is not intimidated by my poofing.
Chef Tommy: Agreed.
Captain Iggy: I must go back to my ship, but I would like to come to an understanding with Beatrix. When I’m back from sailing and she completes her studies at University, we would like to wed.
Burt: And I would like to wed Goldie as soon as I have made Run Down Estate Habitable.
Chef Tommy: This is all wonderful news. But where is Ora Zella?
Puck: Oh, no! It seems Pink Lupin is missing as well!
Whatever fancy name them aliens is give it it still a steenky cage and they is still planning to eats cat. Not waste time and prepares for battle now. It gonna be steenky aliens vs earthleengs.
well, it seems as a community we tend to think the very worst when it comes to anyone (character) messing with “our” cats.
I am trying to steer away from this and remember that this strip/world leans strongly toward “high fantasy” (by my definition, not what appears to be the current or real definition).
To me, “high fantasy” is like the Wizard of Oz, where despite scares, thrills & chills, the main characters are never truly in danger (though they may appear to be). when the story ends, the core group remains together & unharmed.
My “low fantasy” (which is likely better described as “dark fantasy”) is more like Glen Cook’s “Black Company” series or (while it is modern crime fiction & not fantasy at all) Jo Nesbo’s Harry Hole books, where the bad often thrive for much longer than the reader would like, and pretty much anyone (except the title character, so far) could be killed off in shocking fashion at the drop of a hat.
Clearly, we are in a much safer universe here. I remain fairly confident that the World that our good boys & girls are living in does not have any real “monsters” in it.
I suspect that Sophie’s captors will likely turn out to be foolish, misguided or ignorant. Or perhaps there will be a twist and it will turn out that they “meant well” (but executed poorly).
But I doubt that they will turn out to be employed by the shady government research center or even Servants of Vecna and that the Big Pink House has been in Hawkins all along.
It is storylines like these that I wish I could read ahead on, though if you are on Patreon you can get some hints at what is coming a bit like reading ahead without the worry of getting too much info ahead of time. Georgia doesn’t give too much away, she doesn’t want to spoil the story. I was looking ahead in a book I am reading right now because I wanted to know something but found out something I wasn’t sure I wanted to know yet.
I gotta admit, I’m not quite seeing the “cozy” here. (I keep thinking back to Sophie all snuggled in her carrier, writing in her journal, while the rest of the crew was getting ready for wrestling. She reminded me of Jeannie (I Dream of Jeannie) in her fancy genie bottle with all the plush cushions – now THAT was cozy!)
For those with story anxiety about Sophie, remember that Georgia promised everyone that she will be okay. And I’m guessing that a romance will happen during the Great Escape. Something else to look forward to.
My cat has one – my daughter got it so that they could take her on a 15 hour drive to her new home. It is big enough for a litter box, and food and water. She made it okay. She still had the kennel for stress – it’s her “room”. She hates the ceiling fan and will go to her room for a while. Until she comes out to noodge me…
This may be unpopular opinion, but I just don’t feel like these people are that bad. Misguided perhaps, but not that bad. I don’t think there’s a nefarious plot. But people who maybe haven’t had pets before don’t understand them the way those of us who have do. I choose to think that they picked her up because they’re lonely and have not had the experience of finding lost cats, or taking them to get microchip checked. Volunteering with the rescue, we see it often where people who are non-pet people try to do something nice or what they think is right to help an animal, but they just don’t have the experience to know what to do. I’m choosing to believe in well meaning but not knowledgeable interference.
OT : ATTENTION ALL ORB BEINGS!! In case anyone missed me, I’m guessing NOPE, I’m still around. Real life and computer problems have left me without a decent internet connection. I have already taken steps to rectify the matter.
Oh-Kay… So now I’m picturing a pressure sensitive floor, and laser beam triggers throughout the room; with poor gutter lowering himself on a tether trying to steal Sophie like the Crown Jewels (cue 5/4 mission impossible music). These people are going to a LOT of trouble to secure their stolen cat!! In My Humble Opinion, Gutter should just hijack a garbage truck and drive into the fancy house and escape with Sophie in inevitable chaos that follows. (And in the process, trick that woman into sheltering in the show kennel and take a few pics!)

A show kennel. Well, that explains a few things. Not necessarily how I was hoping, but not the worst case scenario.

Does the internet say anything about how to break in or out of that kennel, Beatrix? Someone must have done a video about its weaknesses!

They probably put Sophie in the crate so their new acquisition can be admired without getting cat hair on the furniture or carpeting.

Cratin’ her up is such a no-no
‘Cause she’s not meant to be just solo
Pick her up and then just go-go
Take your chances tonight

Cat on high, Hear our prayer
In our need, you have always been there
She is young, she’s afraid,
Let her rest, Heaven blessed
Bring her home, bring her home
The sweetest cat we’ve ever known
That Georgia granted us for fun
Each strip goes by one by one
How soon they fly on and on
And we can’t wait ‘til this arc’s done
Bring her peace in her world
She is young, She is only a girl
This great team help will give
Rescue her, let her live,
From that cage she will fly
Let her live
Bring her home
Bring her home!
