Hmmm. I bet this woman has never said a word about cat shows before she snatched Sophie, and I (and possibly this man) suspect that a week from now, comic time, sheâll never say a word about them again.
An ANGRY Burt. I can only imagine the kind of eternal pain he could inflict if provoked. Well, heâs been provoked, and he has Gutter and some motivated (also angry) Robber Mice to send in. The A-Team has got nothing on this bunch!
i keep wondering why they have such intense security. is it to keep people out or to keep someone in? maybe the woman has dementia or alzheimers and wanders off??? that might also explain her being so clueless? and the husband seems to be humoring her like itâs just another tangent sheâs going off on.
My best guess? After so many years, the husband just goes along with the wifeâs whims. Who knows how many other things have caught (and lost) her interest? The pristine (as I commented the other day â not âlived inâ looking) house â not sure if the furniture is white or if its furniture covers â everything it its place, and her (ahem) acquisition of Sophie make me think itâs all about appearances, and taking pleasure in things, not other people or life experiences. As for the security system, probably lives in distrust of others â that they will take what she has â which is ironic since she took something that belongs to someone else! My best hope: that the husband will be the hero and do the right thing (take her to the vet, return her to her rightful home).
An Encore Presentation of a post from October 27, 2022
Based on a Short Story by Charlotte Perkins Gilman: The Yellow Wallpaper
Scene: The year is 1892. A large, kinda decrepit mansion in the middle of nowhere. Enter a young woman (Jane) and her husband, an up and coming doctor (John) with their infant daughter.
John: Here we are dear. Now youâll have a chance to recover from your bout with hysteria.
Jane: Itâs called postpartum depression. At least it will be in about a hundred years from now.
John: Iâve arranged to have you stay in the attic. You are to do nothing. No writing, no creativity, no thinking. And my sister Jenny is here to take over the care of our lovely daughter.
Jane: Great. Weeks and weeks of sheer boredom. This has got to be the most hideous room imaginable. Whatâs up with this wallpaper?
John: Donât worry. Just rest and let me do the thinking for the both of us.
Time passes
Jane: Iâm glad I sneaked in my notebook and pen. (Writing)
Dear Diary, what a day itâs been. Dear Diary, itâs been just like a dreamâŠ
Jane: Now Iâm imagining thereâs a woman concealed in the pattern of this lousy wallpaper and chipping it off the wall. Oh wait, there is a woman here. Who are you?
Woman: Oh, hi. Iâm Alicia. My family owns this place.
Jane: What are you doing here?
Alicia: This room has been driving me crazy. Who wants to live in a room with barf yellow wallpaper?
Thatâs right, Burt! Use their own security against them. Then the rescue team can swoop in amidst the chaos. We have also almost made it long enough for the July Bug to play a role, so that will be fun.
Iggy: This toasted cheese sandwich and tomato soup is delicious. I remember when I was a sailor cooking was not encouraged on board the ship.
Beatrixia: What did you eat?
Iggy: We had a lot of dried fish, pickled veggies, that sort of thing. And my cousin Ziggy was an expert navigator and knew how to guide us to ports where we could obtain provisions.
Beaver Lee Cleary: We have many cook scrolls in the library. You should check out Julia Kittenâs Mastering the Art of Gallic Cooking, Betty Cookerâs Cooking While On Board a Ship, and The Better Pyramids and Greenery Cook Scroll to name just a few.
Violet-Ifa: Definitely we need to do some cooking research. But we need to go back to find out what happened to Sophititiâs descendant.
Ta-Natash: Actually, my family has a legend that has been obscured in futurity about a daring rescue from a well-meaning but completely wacko person.
Bea: Then thatâs where weâll concentrate our search.
Georgia said on Facebook that the Girl is frustrated about this storyline too and telling Georgia to right faster because she needs to know what happens to Sophie. :)
âAt the orthopedic Dr. She says the bone looks good and I should come back in three weeks to get the cast off and be in a boot. She said I can use a walker or a knee scooter so I guess itâs up to the rehab now when I can go.â
A friend gave me a marmalade tabby kitten when she had to move. I caught a little girl carrying her off one day and retrieved her. I had to go on a trip. When I got back, she was gone. My catsitter said he didnât know I had a third cat (not a real observant guy). I knew what had happened to her but had no idea where to look. I hope the little girl took good care of her.
At least I know Decibel left on her own four feet and is probably happier outside. And if anyone tried to ârescueâ her, they likely wonât have any more luck than I did.
I have been thinking maybe they should do some controlled mess and spell out messages like âHer name is Sophie and she already has a homeâ. Though I donât know if the animals can actually leave messages that people can see or understand.
Christopher Saint Booth and Philip Adrian Booth: Ulterior Motives
Something in your eyes makes me realize
Itâs not what it seems
Though you seem to smile Iâm detecting guile
There is some scheme
âŠâŠ.
You think that you are being wise
But youâre believing your own lies
âŠâŠ.
All the cats know it: youâve got ulterior motives
Tell us the truth
Burtâs monitor shows it: youâve got ulterior motives
Weâve all become wise, you believe a lie
âŠâŠ.
We know you have your dreams, but it somehow seems
You have no clue
You should find out that there are many cats
Who do need you
âŠâŠ.
Sophie has no need to roam
She already has a loving home!
âŠâŠ.
All the cats know it: youâve got ulterior motives
Tell us the truth
Burtâs monitor shows it: youâve got ulterior motives
Weâve all become wise, you believe a lie!
Everyone knows that youâve got ulterior motives
Please learn the truth
We all love our cat!
Do not believe the lie!
Background: Ulterior Motives is a song that was recently rediscovered on the Internet as a 17-second clip. For several months it was debated what the exact words were, and who wrote it. Finally it came to light that two brothers had written the song in the 80s. They tried to release it as a pop song, but needing money they licensed it to a friend to use in an adult film he produced.
Many years agoâŠ.. I worked for a TV repair place. We get to a house, much like this one, snow white carpet everywhere etc. This was before the little booties they have now. The woman insisted we take off our shoes. I told her that weâd be happy to do so while we diagnose her set, it was a 40 inch tabletop TV, but if we had to take it with us there was no way we could carry it in our stocking feet. Of course she scrunched her face up the way people of money that seldom get told no like to do. I quickly told her though that I had some nice, clean quilts we use to wrap items in to protect them and iâd be happy to lay them down along our path. Truth is, we never want to make a mess. Even in a jerks home. I could see that she was appeased by the fact that we would have to do more than normal for her. We just waited until we got down the road to make fun of her. If I remember, it was a fairly easy repair. Just not one you could do in a home. Our boss was a great guy, but heâd have gone ballistic if someone took that kind of a chance. Heâd have loved having those booties though. So would I! And a Mobile phone and sat nav as well. We did have great maps though.
What breed is Sophie? Being beautiful, which she is, doesnât make her âshow quality.â Breed standards are weird and often counterintuitive. We have a âpet qualityâ BSH. Sheâs gorgeous as far as weâre concerned but sheâs not a show cat. Weâre glad she isnât.
Georgia posted on facebook âFor everyone feeling anxious or frustrated about this part of the story, I hear you and I promise (spoilers, but not spoilers because itâs BCN) itâs going to turn around and be a lot of fun soon!!âŠAlso, if itâs any comfort, the Girl is similarly very frustrated with me and just following me around the house the past couple of weeks yelling at me âI need to know what happens to Sophie, WRITE FASTER!!â We have reached the age where THE COMMENTS ARE COMING FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE She comes into my studio to read the roughs of the week and occasionally gives some notes of her own. She actually gave two huge notes for this story arc that Iâm already really grateful for, Iâll talk about them once the story is over. The Boy also reads my roughs sometimes and a Sunday strip is coming with that was his suggestion and heâll be credited beside the signature for the idea!â
Oh, Dolores, now youâve done it. Natasha is after you. Best is you open the door of your house, and leave it open while you catch a plane to Zimbabwe. I donât know of any Orbsters there. Was going to suggest South Island of NZ, but youâd not be safe there.
