WOW! Phil is back! He wasn’t just a punchline character, afterall. He may even be a future BF for Luann?

This is good news. A new character will add a little excitement to the strip.

Okay, well, I’m certainly glad to see that this is lasting longer than just 1-2 weeks. That’s actually a bit of relief; hopefully this may actually go somewhere . . . hopefully.

Now I’m curious to know if there are any other comic characters out there who are CNAs . . . I ask because one of my comic characters is a CNA.

I think that they used to call guys with professions like Phil, “Orderlies” back in the olden days.

CNA = Certified Nursing Assistant. I don’t think “orderlies” were ever trained or certified.

I don’t get the joke today because CNAs do all their tasks wearing surgical gloves, thus their hands are by definition, clean.

Phil missed out on the turkey — the baked turkey – now he gets to meet the other turkey.

Phil is drawn to imply he’ll be a new member of Luanniverse. You could tell which is just a guest and which is a new character by the way they’re drawn. I actually like Phil. He’s mature, confident, has a profession, some education and a little nerdy. I never liked Jack because he is a doofus and is hard to get to know. Not much is revealed about Jack. He is confused. All wrong for Luann because SHE is confused too and doesn’t need a partner who is also confused. I liked Quill too and he was way too mature for the high school Luann at the time. He already had goals and a career path and eventually found Luann too immature for him and abandoned her. He was never the right guy for Luann. She has matured a bit since Quill and hopefully she is ready for Phil – just a bit ready but with his encouragement and support, she might thrive. Fingers crossed.

And he’s a CNA too! Personally, I’d prefer LVN/LPN, but I am one, so I’m biased.

I’ll admit it. I was wrong about Phil being a one and done character.

I worked EMS. Shake his bare hand vs the gloves… kind of insulting in a way really.

Oh, good. A new character for the strip. Maybe Luann’s life will get interesting.

“Mobility? Nah, I’m good. Rubdown? Sure, when can we start. Showering? Oh yea, we’ll need one after the rubdown. Toileting? Ah, yea I can handle that. Cleanup? That comes after………what? Whatever it is, definitely use the gloves!”

The “Philled” jokes practically write themselves. I’m going to decline.

Phil gives me “middle reliever” vibes. He’ll be around for a while, but become a minor foil a la Tara Starr, over time. Perhaps it will be Tara who steals him away from Luann. Phil does not strike me as being Tiff’s type, but then again, we still speculate about what may have happened between her & Gun. There do seem to be a few similarities between Phil and Gun. Hold that thought for the future.

Wow, looks like I was totally wrong about Phil being a one-off. Let’s see how this develops.

The aggressively intrusive news ads on this site are ruining it, and they seem to be crashing it as well.

Nice to see Phil again, I was hoping that would happen because having a friend like him could help Luann rethink about the possibility of a career in medicine. Which, given the skill she has in helping people, would not be out of place. Her classmates in the writing class already consider her a doctor!

After reading what he does, LuAnn should be the one wearing the rubber glove.

HUUMM, something about Phil reminds me of Luann’s dad. After almost 40 years, isn’t about time she settled down with just one boyfriend. Not like she’s had a lot of options lately.

Hmmm, I thought I would get “jumped” with my misdirection play comment, BB where you at dude? Anyway, I didn’t think Phil would come back at the DeGroot Thanksgiving, it was too obvious for one thing, but he’s a caring, handsome guy, and I’m positive he is training to be a RN. As sure as I can be. I mean Mrs. Horner, bless her heart, described the real Luann DeGroot, not the brainless, immature, selfish kid too many here trap themselves into seeing only the doofus side. It’s humor people. I so hope this is the “one.”

I’m pleased to see the strip depicting a male nurse. It’s an extremely valuable profession, and one that is far too often stereotyped as female — in no small part because for a long time, it was one of the few “suitable” professions for women. Yet men can do it every bit as well as women, and there are patients who do better with male nurses for a variety of reasons, so putting out more role models like that is great. Thank you, G&K!

Luann doesn’t need to date every single guy she meets. She must meet plenty of young males at college.

Please let Phil be a regular guy with no weird hang ups. It is time for Luan to have a believable serious relationship.

OMG! I need to make one further original comment GoComics. I just noticed that in the last panel, after saying what he did in his CNA role (as an elder myself I know how important they are) Phil put his glove on and Lu shook his hand. HE IS THOUGHTFUL! All Lu’s prior boyfriends, that little dude in grade school (can’t recall his name right now) and Quill were selfish, at least too her needs. Aaron, was totally unaware of how Lu was obsessing over him, and Quill was basically interested in his own career, putting Luann second. She is not a “second” sort of young woman, and that is a sign that this may be for real, finally. Whew, Evanses.

On one hand, yes, pun, Phil is considerate, on the other, Luann isn’t.

Luann thinks Phil doesn’t wash his hands? Never heard of being afraid to shake hands with a nurse or other ‘hands-on’ health professional. Anyway, hopefully Luann is about to meet someone who is focused on his work and career, and maybe she can take a page from someone who finds meaning and direction in life.
