So this is going to be the joke this week: Everybody’s going to forget that Leslie is still on the roof, pack up their things, have pumpkin pie (which has to be against company policy), and drive off with Leslie still on the roof.
Of course there’s nothing stopping Leslie from just climbing down the ladder by himself while everyone’s looking at the kitten. He’s not helpless, is he?
Tomorrow, before they can get Les off the roof, the firefighters get called away to a fire, started in the Farrell kitchen by TJ, whose Sunday cooking extravaganza is now magically taking place on Thanksgiving. (Take that, Kontinuity Kops! Nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah.)
To you who heckled Les for not simply climb down the ladder on his own, I tell you I won’t go down the ladder by myself. I would require someone to hold the ladder. It is not free-standing ladder secured by a latch in between two sides of steps which are angled from narrow at the top to wide stance at the bottom. This is the leaning-on-wall model. It is notorious for imbalance where people topple over and get hurt. Heck, I think Les’d be safer to just slide off the roof. When you go down the ladder, you have trouble seeing where your feet are to get them to the ladder step while the body is faced toward the roof. Often the feet land on the step at the wrong angles so the ladder topples over. So, Les, just slide off. When your legs hang over the roof edge, they’re already close to the ground so you’re good to slide off.
Ok. Time to take down the ladder. But before you do, throw some Christmas lights, a Santa costume, and some pillows up there. He’s already wearing black boots.
Remember that in Luann world all the citizens are effected by the nefarious Ben who has been poisoning the water and giving everyone bouts of amnesia. That’s why they don’t remember that they never had dinner and that Les is still on the roof. Les is not effected by this illness because he never drinks the water. All he ever has are those little fruit punch bags injected with vodka.
What, are Les’s legs broke? Waddle your little butt down that ladder dude. That was the whole problem to start with. I mean I can get not wanting to jump off the roof with the kitten but now? Take that leap. I did it all the time when I was younger.. It’s only 10 feet. Hit the ground and roll dude.. Or take that ladder that there.
Ahhhh…. poor Les. And why does he have the “attitude” others call out. Gee, we could have SLICC (pronounced slick. Means a Self Licking Ice Cream Cone). The bad thing is Les has been pretty good in general (yes, a little stand offish and maybe a few other things but he’s a work in progress). Ahh well. Maybe he should go over to Tiffany’s and consul with her for a while.
@ Chopped Fowl I wonder if SHERIFF MORDECAI is still the colorist or if Greg has taken that over. Panel two is a very complex scene for a colorist and G-man’s hair would be easy to miss.
Hope they are just kidding. This is awful! No wonder Les has a chip on his shoulder. I’d expect this from Gunther and Al but Irma is really a disappointment!
HOORAY! Punk is safe! Everyone is rightfully happy about it ♡! Oddly, Les doesn’t sounds as happy as the others for his cat’s safety. Seriously, maybe these are the signs that will lead Les to decide to find a place away from his family for him and Punk.
Oh, for the love of Mike! SMH. A few days ago I wondered what Les’s thoughts would be, i.e. grateful, relieved, annoyed that Al and Gunth seemingly left. Now I wouldn’t blame him for being aggravated, impatient. What is wrong with these people? Ok, maybe this is happening in a matter of minutes, but….. pumpkin pie? Help the guy down. Talk about making someone feel insignificant!
Pumpkin pie? So they DID abandon Leslie earlier and had their Thanksgiving feast without him. I take back what I said yesterday, when I took back what I said the day before, when I admonished Gunther and the others. I love a story of a bully’s heart becoming softened by a little kitty. He should be rewarded by a good deed, reaffirming good behavior and helping him to grow into a more decent person. Not give him more cause for resentment.
Bunch of nit-picking old farts! Everyone forgot Les. Hilarity ensues! Of course I always go back to my default position: where will this arc fit in the general story of Luannverse, and in particular any of the characters in the arc? This includes Les himself. I think this is a fun set of panels though, not a grouchy as so many of my compatriots on this blog.
And Les had been home alone, and heard his cat on the roof?
What would Les had done?
I dare say he would have propped that ladder up against the side of the Gulag and climbed that ladder by his damn self to get his cat.
Now.
How would he have gotten down? Would he had stayed up there and yelled for help?
I doubt it. Les would have tucked Punk in his shirt and very gingerly, carefully, climbed down that ladder one careful rung at a time. And he would have MADE it!
Yeah, I KNOW it’s safer for someone to be holding the ladder. But remember. In My scenario, no one’s around. And don’t forget. The guy fearlessly, recklessly climbed UP a slippery downspout wearing boots without hesitation, for God’s sake!
So so you see where some of Us are getting at when We wonder why Les can’t get down that ladder by himself? ;)
Earlier on, I wondered why the sudden appearance of all these back burner characters in a comic named for Luann. Several good reasons were given and now I think of Luann as one of those big Thanksgiving Day parade balloons guided along by all the “little people” with their ropes. Luann would just be dead air without her cast of thousands showing her the way.
Oh, c’mon, Leslie! You’re a big boy now: you can climb down the bloody ladder on your own. —I can’t believe you’re jealous of the attention your cat is getting!
How did Brad climb down the ladder holding a kitten?
Where I used to work, it was required to use both hands and both feet when going up or down a ladder. If we needed to bring something up or down, we had to use a haul rope. Brad could have a safety violation.
I actually found this arc to be pretty funny. Les rescuing his kitten, and at the same time being all, “Hello???? Still on the roof, people!” It actually made me chuckle.

Now let Me get this straight.
This Joker manages to climb UP a darned downspout wearing high heeled boots with little difficulty.
But NOW, all of a sudden, he’s totally incapable of climbing DOWN when presented with a much sought after ladder??
And everybody is wondering how the cat got stuck of there?
Now We KNOW why Al never invested good money on buying a decent sized ladder. Apparently his nephew Les, was never taught what a “ladder” is.
Brad? Please send Toni up next to get this “poor lad” down.
I want to Test a “theory.” ;)tigerdg almost 4 years ago

Pasting for the 5th or 6th time because reading all the comments about Les not using the ladder alone reads the same as me pasting.
Why can’t he climb down on his own?
Because the fire department people are now responsible to get him down on their ladder. If he were to fall unassisted they would be liable.
BTW the cat was just handed off and Brad said " Hand me the cat first, Les."
