Romantic talks between Gunther and Bets. Promising to be a boring week this week. I much rather the drama and witty comebacks. This has been a big departure from the typical G-rated family storylines this past year. What gives? Just because they are college kids, do GnK think college is all about hooking up? In that case, I might as well stop reading this strip. I rather enjoyed the Tiffany’s transformation arc and the Ann Eiffel vs Tiffany arc. Lately, it’s been all about romances. GnK blew on exploring roommate issues further, besides the sex fiends Stefani and Kip, among the 4 girls. Explore Tiff’s relationship with dad who has returned to being aboard all the time. About the athletes, spotlighting Stefani and Kip. About their classes and their professors. Anything would be better than romances.

Can we just move on to something else? Let me know when this train wreck is over. That woman is trouble.

Hopefully this arc will at least get interesting. If Gunther & Bets stay in the bedroom the first night, Les shouldn’t ruin it. However another possible plot twist: Gunther & Bets arrive at the gulag, and Les is there with Tiffany. If Gunther gets upset, Bets will get angry at Gunther and storm out.

Gunther!!!! Boy has hormones after all! I know some bemoan sex and the young people. I responded to a preacher who said sex sould only happen after marriage, not before. I’m a progressive Christian (baptized cradle Catholic with the Sisters of UnMercy, and the mostly Christian brothers K12), personally believes in Jesus, but it makes absolutely no sense to impose an artificial restriction on adults based on one religion or another. Morality, in a humanist sense, is a reason because it depends on ethical choice, not religious pronouncements. There I jumped into it. But back to Luannverse, whether they “do it” or not, or have “done it” as the main character was trying to find out a few months back, to depict young adults in love, who are saving themselves is unrealistic, How to acknowledge that reality in a comic that started with a young girl, with a doofus lump of a brother, who was always interested in guys, mooning over them from 3rd or 4th grade (well Aaron"ugh" Hill) to and through high school, now unsuccessfully in college—let’s not even talk about Bernice—whose characters have spent nearly 40 years getting to college age is an issue, but how this is being adroitly done in Luannverse is brilliant albeit controversial to some. To me it’s a high wire act and thus interesting and exciting. I always said I wanted to see Bets making pancakes in the kitchen when Les gets his morning coffee. I doubt if it would phase him, he probably would congratulate Gunther. Let’s see this pans out. By the way a dinner with Al and Irma is still in the cards IMHO. GunBets can eat dinner and cohabitate at the same time.

Gunther looks unusually young and thin in the first panel, and really odd in the last panel.

Gunther loves Bets’ idea♡! He wants to live with her too and he appears not scared by the implications. Sure, Bets wants to share the pjs, but probably Gunther will made a new one just for her. Things seem to going very well for this couple, so well that I wonder what unexpected thing could happen to make everything more dramatic or all will stay happy, positive and full of holiday spirit.

It’s gonna get VERY cozy. A pregnancy will result. Whether it is Bets or Stef is open to conjecture. My money is on Bets, since it would be a vehicle for writing her out of the strip, in time.

Just how do I see her eventual exit? Tied up in a bow with that of Jonah. Hers will be the other car in the accident that I have been predicting for Jonah for a few years.

Think about it. The most beloved cartoon characters of all time never directly reproduce. Popeye and Olive always had the nephews or Swee’ Pea to deal with. Donald and Daisy had his nephews, not eggs of their own. What I have just laid out is in keeping with this tradition, and in keeping with what others have been predicting for years, as well; that Brad and Toni will adopt Shannon.

I may not be entirely correct, but I bet that my proverbial golf ball has found the green.

Concerned that Bets doesn’t want to see her family at Christmas. Sounds like issues there. If so, what issues? Plus what she has said about all the other guys in her life. Lots of baggage for a young lady. Loud, extrovert, possessive, demanding. Not sure what is going on with Bets. Not sure she knows either.

I just find it interesting that the Luann strip has become a bit titillating in addressing sex between the character’s after years of avoiding it. It does reflect the lives of most college students (or high schoolers now) though. I bet readership has gone up…sex does sell.

Not going to comment on this theme, but I wanted to note the different styles G&K use for their cast. Bets, Steph and Toni have different eyes, whereas LuAnn, Tiffany, Frank and a few others have the large, circular eyes. Gun and Brad have dots …. I like the subtle differences like that, the different techniques used to draw the different characters. I also appreciate the diversity of the races, TJ, Bets, Kip, Dez.
