With Bernice it’s always about her.

By projecting her attempt to break-up on him it takes all the pressure off her. Now she’s the affronted one and be as defensive as she wants to be.

I projected that by weeks end they will end up in bed. Nothing I see here contraindicates that conclusion.

I wasn’t expecting Greg to go this way but a clever way to get the theme out in the open without all the hemming and hawwing.

Nil has to stay strong if he wants to stay with her or run as fast as possible if he doesn’t want to. I hope this ends with Bernice ending up alone and crying over her mistakes regretting everything she told to him and about him. Maybe that way she’ll understand how much she loves him and how foolish she was.

If he is, I can’t say I blame him. Ol’ Bern is just wound way too tight.

I wonder if Nil has noticed how quickly Bernice turns into a complete hag? Her head will start spinning in a minute. Honestly, she’s just really annoying. It’s exhausting to watch. If Greg’s intent is to make readers feel sorry for Nil, he’s doing a good job!

Well, Luann certainly accurately predicted How Nil would respond. Bernice is making a big deal because SHE really doesn’t want to break up and hoped Nil would disagree. Bern, you gotta know deep inside, you are kidding yourself.

Last note, regarding Toni and Brad. They just aren’t as interesting when they are wearing clothes.

Nil is smart today. He knows it is best to say very little and Bernice will probably talk herself out of breaking up. She is lucky to find a man who can tolerate her craziness.

They will still be together by the end of the week. They will probably get engaged soon. No break up this week or ever.

I didn’t realize that to ‘Slow things down and take a time out’ meant breaking up. This strip is slow enough as it is. At my age I doubt I’ll live long enough to see any progress in the relationships of any of these college kids. But they will likely still be in college long after my time is up.

Nil has left the drama Unsaid.

I know that Bernice is being a drama queen here, and typically when she faces a personal, particularly a romantic crisis, she is drawn to react this way. Nil is drawn to be withdrawn, a savant type, of few words. The situation is hilarious (yes, yes I know many here don’t appreciate the humor the way I do, but it’s a major theme of the strip after all) in that Bern transfers her confused feelings to him. I think I have an idea of how this will play out, but since I think it would be the hugest mistake for these characters to be allowed to break up (hint) I will wait to see how the arc develops to see if I was wrong or crash and burn wrong.

There used to be a show called MOMS on tv. One of the characters was a very rich blonde woman, who became invoved with a police officer who was a much more average, dad-bod type of guy. She was so hung up on appearances that she disavowed him in front of some judgemental women. Even though she had real feelings, she could not reconcile that with his average appearance, plain talk, and was embarrassed by him.

OK, Back over to pickles for the week then.

This is baffling. Surely Bernice has better insight into Nil’s “persona” by now. Nil isn’t “breaking up”, he’s being Nil.

She should know by now that Nil doesn’t / wouldn’t react that way. Apparently, she doesn’t know him at all. Just wanted him around for the snogging, I guess.

When some people have what they want, right in front of them they panic. Being happy isn’t allowed, they don’t believe they deserve happiness. The same people later want to get tied up and spanked and be called dirty. So I’ve heard.

stares Anyone else just about had it with Bernice? She behaves like… wow, like she’s still 13. Conspiracy theory! No one actually aged! They’re all still the same age as the original strip!

Given many of the story arcs in recent years, is it time to change the name of this comic strip to “B***hes Be Crazy”?

Nil is willingly compliant with Bernice’s stated wishes. I tend to think that Nil is so infatuated with Bernice that he would be willing to do most things she asks. Unfortunately, compliance was NOT what Bernice was internally hoping for, even with her external words saying she wants to break up.

Overall, Bernice wants Nil to help her with her conflict of “doing right” in life and “doing what FEELS right” in the moment. Yet, Nil just wants to do what Bernice asks of him.

Part of the conflict Bernice feels is also related to timing, I believe. I think she is of a mindset that she wants to complete her studies and establish herself prior to what becomes a permanent relationship (which I think she would like with Nil). But, both things (school and relationship) are occurring simultaneously, which scares Bernice, IMO…. hence the talk of breaking up. Unfortunately for Bernice (and others who feel comfortable by linearity) life is not guaranteed to be linear.

She’s so repressed that she’ll end up pregnant.

They really want every single one of us to hate Bernice, don’t they? Is this revenge for forcing them to get rid of Ann?
