Alas poor milk carton, we hardly knew ye. You bore the weight of that sweet nectar of the cow, but you were doomed, and how. Falling victim to Ora Zella’s flying death paw. Seeing Iggy line up his things. ahhhhhh.

I don’t mean to be mean, but for an experiment, I would consider putting OraZ inside the milk carton … you know, just to test the explosive properties of a smol tortie. Am picturing the carton exploding in a cloud of shredded cardboard … Hoo boy!

It’s true about the love for things they’re not supposed to have. That’s why, whenever I’ve brought something into the house that I want to encourage the cats to sit in or on, I casually drop it onto the floor like it’s trash and then hold the cats’ gaze while saying very clearly: THIS IS NOT FOR KITTIES. (60% of the time, it works every time.)♥

Young Bartholomew adores tin foil balls. Most other toys are dross compared to the magnificence of a tin foil ball. He loves to chase one, then pick it up, and place it in a precise spot, chosen by reasons known only to him, and wait for you to toss it so the cycle can begin again.

Milk caps for throwin’ and bread tags for kittens

Bright crumpled foil balls for swattin’ in kitchens

Peanut butter lids perfect for flings

These are a few of their trashiest things

Crumpled up place mats well-used and covered in doodles

Old mac ‘n’ cheese slime ripe with leftover noodles

Wild veggies fly ’cross the floor in soggiest spins

These are a few of their most wanted things

Burnt out wicks and spent candle ashes

Old candy wrappers from Halloween stashes

Opened cardboard roll tubes that bounce just like springs

These are a few of their favorite things

    When their toys bore

    When static clings

When they like to be bad

They simply get into some forbidden things

And then what great fun they had

It seems like this autumn has been especially hard on our fur-babies. Like the leaves, their time with us is past and they’re moving on to ‘greener pastures.’ To all who have lost or in fear of losing their companion, we love you and grieve with you because we’re all suffered the same lose and know what you’re going through. Sweet memories to comfort you.

Yesterday we gave like 101 replies to someone who may or may not have been trolling. I personally can vouch for how difficult it is to keep from trying to persuade the naysayers of the goodness of what they are complaining about. But let’s all remind ourselves to just ignore those kinds of comments. I know it’s easier to say than to do. Maybe first one there should remind the rest of us?

I think that milk carton is about to get CREAMED! Using the slang definition of “To damage severely; destroy.”

I think OZ is channeling IDAK from Lost in Space – “CRUSH! KILL! DESTROY!”

You know if you cared about you cats you wouldn’t by milk in a carton, but in a plastic bottle. That little safety ring left on the bottle after you open it makes a marvelous cat toy as does the lid once the milk is gone. And by cutting off the bottom of the bottle you have a wonderful funnel with a handle.

    Meanwhile, Back on the Nile

    At the Royal Office

Elvis-Anum: I’m really glad you’re here to help with all these archives, Professor. I actually am pleased that the Kingdom of Away is interested in history.

Prof. Selena Cantrip: You can call me Selly, Elvis. Here there’s a scroll from a scribe from the Back in the Day Era.

    Elvis: What do they say?

Selly: Apparently, he had an apprentice who was a tortoise shell cat. He writes:

Young Zelda is a quick and capable scribe when she does not shred the papyrus. Hopefully she will grow out of that eventually.

    Elvis: The more things change…

Selly: The more they stay the same.

Selly: Oh, here’s another scroll. It comes from a few years later:

Quill Penn has retired from scribing and passed the pen on to me. I must take care to store the papyri safely and not eat them. This I, Zelda, pledge to do.

Elvis: I wonder if there are any scrolls that she did eat.

Selly: I guess we’ll never know.

Bread tags are dangerous for cats. They’re small enough to be swallowed, and that means a panicky trip to the kitty ER to have it removed. And with sharp points that most of them have, they can do some damage on the way down.

And on the subject of things-to-not-give-your-cat, don’t give your cats the plastic ring off milk (or water) jugs. As a whole piece, they’re not likely to be swallowed. But they are easily chewed into smaller pieces which, again, can do damage if they’re swallowed.

I’d hope most of us are aware of our individual pets’ behavior enough to identify whether various objects are potentially problematic. That said, some pets are excellent at coming up with new and creative ways to wreak havoc; so while I find the phrase “never give your pet item X” a bit excessive, I do appreciate people sharing the potential hazards of objects not ordinarily thought of as dangerous – especially from personal experience.
