Coming Soon 👀 At the beginning of April, you’ll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
The sad, frustrating and frightening part about all of this is that so many people actually fall for it. Not surprising when education is not taken as seriously as entertainment, brainwashing and cults.
First strip this week to be a happy one for Calvin. The first two days he was complaining about having to wait for the school bus when he didn’t want to go to school and yesterday he was in school. Now, school is over and Calvin can be happy for a time.
I’m constantly amused by how many people will jump up and down gleefully and say “Watterson sure predicted how rotten kids will be today!” Because none of you will admit that he explained how rotten you were back then.
Sadly, Calvin’s formula for a talk show has shown to be very successful. It’s no wonder why the state finds it so important to control the airways with dictatorships.
I have always been somewhat befuddled at people who spend hours listening to podcasters. Some people say they listen while they work… but that distracts from concentrating on the work. Podcasting is basically listening to another human (a species which is not known for its honesty, integrity, or accuracy), present supposed “facts” — but in reality mostly personal opinion, whims, propaganda, conspiracy theories and hearsay “evidence”. So rather than actually observing the world around us, gathering the facts ourselves and drawing logical conclusions, podcaster audiences willingly allow their minds to be influenced by the biased personal opinions of others. And some of the stuff I’ve heard repeated from podcasters has “gullible, naive audience” stamped all over it. A person of logical and analytical mind can tear most podcasts apart… if they have enough spare time and desire to do so.
That’s not to say that all podcasting is wrong, but trying to discern the true from the false while listening to someone RANT on for hours can be difficult to do. It’s opening up one’s mind to whatever propaganda the podcaster decides to shovel out.
Podcasting upsets people emotionally and tends to make them “curse the darkness”. No matter what the status, supposed “validity” or experience of the podcaster, it’s still just a man (or woman) spouting information (which likely cannot be verified because it just goes on and on at machine gun pace). There are better things to do with one’s time, life, and mind than fill it with constant, lengthy drivel. If nothing else, turn off the radio and enjoy some peace for a while… and meditate on your own thoughts and observations. ;D
Disclaimer: this is a forum post… which is my personal opinion and no more certifiably valid than a podcast. But at least it doesn’t droll on for hours on end and gives you a chance to actually think and maybe verify / agree with / disagree with what I’ve posted. ie… it gives you a chance to think on your own.
Hmm, I guess we have had grifters like that for a long time; the trend would have to have been well established thirty years ago for Watterson to write about it. I wonder why those people are so much more effective and dangerous now than they were then.
It’s Calvin’s country now. You are all just living it in. For the time being, anyway. Fearless Leader and Mr. Big, on the other hand, could not be more pleased.
