Honestly Gunther when someone tells you that they’re too broken to be in a serious relationship, believe them. Fighting against it will only lead to more heartache.
I feel like Tiffany is in the role of The Stage Manager objecting to the direction of the play, because it’s all a bunch of carp. I mean, seriously, “we love each other so we must break up.” Of course part of this is because Bets’ past history is so vague and vanilla-flavored. You would have to be a complete goose to get freaked out by people leaving.
After over two years of literally wiping her feet on him, NOW Bets is “worried about Gunther’s feelings,” just as they are on the verge of breaking up.
It’s a little late to be concerned about hurting Gunther, Bets.
Too little, too late.
Tiffany, stay out of it.
And Gunther.let Bets go. Away. FAR away.

There are too many people here, Tiffany, so scram. If it isn’t Tiffany’s way, it is no way. Bets has too many problems, so let her go, Gunther. The right one will come along someday.
Bets is what we old school types call “damaged goods”. I tried to be the knight in shining armor repair guy with one once…..doesn’t work. Get out while you can Gunth.
Tiff has changed from a match breaker, to a match maker. She’s always been on display, but now, it’s time to remember that “play”` is part of that word and Ox would be more than willing to join her.
Drat. The ellipsis was a period after all. I considered “Deus ex Tiffina” as a possibility but failed to post it yesterday. I missed my chance to double my number of accurate predictions.
A successful re-union of Bets and Gunther is well out of the realm of believability. Still, Bets is showing a lot more self-awareness than Those Who Object To Bets Vociferously are willing to give her credit for.
And I love reading Luann because Greg tells a good story we all can relate to. Luann evolved from the silly day to day activities of a young teenaged girl to more serious, compelling storylines.
Oh, please, Tiffany, PLEASE intervene!! This is almost a word-for-word recreation of a break up I had and regretted. I wish I had a Tiffany back then to put a stop to it. Maybe it would have saved the day, maybe it would have made things worse. But I know I needed help. Gunther and Bets need help!
Finally Tiffany has had enough of Bets’ utterly absurd/selfish speech and is calling a Time Out! I don’t care if it’s none of her business, she wants to help Gunther and sees him become a mere spectator in one absurd speech where her girlfriend wants to leave him because she’s unable to trust him and too afraid of hurting him. This is crazy! Tiffany had to do something!
I kind of sympathize with Bets here. She’s trying to give a version of the “Its not you it’s me” speech to Gunther. Except “It’s not you it’s me” always means it’s you. I think she genuinely cares about Gunther enough to not want to totally emotionally destroy him with a really dramatic breakup (otherwise this WOULD be all over social media), but she also realizes that for whatever reason Gunther isn’t the guy for her, and she can’t chainge him enough to be that guy. So she is ready to cut & run. Which really is her choice, sorry Tiff. I’d guess she’s also been dropping hints that things aren’t going well (disrespecting Gunther, stealing his fries, trying to push his buttons) for a while now. Gunth has been just to clueless/inexperienced to pick up those clues earlier on. Live & learn.
Tiffany needs to butt out. This is none of her business.
And Gunther needs to recognize that Bets’ reasoning is total BS. She didn’t care about hurting Gunther when she forced him to make pirate costumes instead of studying for his college tests. She didn’t care when she threw a tantrum and dragged him out of his friend’s house. She didn’t care when she abandoned him at the hot dog place with no way to get home. It’s too late to start pretending now.
I like Flavor FLav. Flavor Flav as POTUS sounds fun. Flavor Flav should not be POTUS. Fun doesn’t mean they are equipped for the job. Just because you like/love a person doesn’t mean they should be in a relationship. “Bets” admits to being flawed, has twisted logic & shows she is willing to hurt feelings to protect her own. I’ve been there. This is Gunther’s ticket out. “Saving” this relationship is only delaying the inevitable crash & burn. Run Gunther. Run fast. Run Far.
When being on the receiving end of a break-up, most people have heard this phrase: “It’s not YOU, it’s ME”. … Now, here’s what that really means: “It’s YOU”.
Glad to see Tiff stepping in. Someone needs to make clear to Bets that she owes Gunther an apology and has ZERO place to tell him “we” are breaking up when she’s simply being a selfish b—ch
What a delicious reversal of roles. Is Tiff is playing Cyranno to Gun’s Roxanne? If the outcome of this arc is the couplehood of Gun and Tiff, then the answer is yes.
Bets is fully aware that she has some serious issues. I suspect that Gunther isn’t the first guy she’s pulled this crap on. If she doesn’t seek help soon, she’s headed for a lonely life of lost opportunities and emptiness. Don’t fight it Gunther. You don’t need this in your life. Plenty of rational fish in the sea.
If you love somebody, let them go. And if that somebody is Bets, splash a drink in her face and storm out. I guess what I’m trying to say is, shut up, Tiff.
Tiffany needs to butt out. It’s a big mistake for Bets to stay with Gunther and even BETS knows it. Her love is not flawed but SHE is——-she has some real issues to work out.
Whatever the „but“ was, implied by yesterday’s ellipsis, apparently, Bets has not changed her mind: She wants to break up.
The usual „It’s not you, it’s me.“
People seem fixated on how she’s treated him in the past, combined with that she wants out now, so the combined reaction of many, maybe even most, is to just don’t let the screen door hit her on the way out.
Still, it’s Wednesday, three days to go.
MOST INTERESTING: Tiffany appears to want them to stay together.
If a woman is attracted to a guy, she doesn’t simply break up with him like this. Bets may love Gunther…. Heck, Luann loves Gunther, she has said so…. But neither of them love him romantically or are attracted to him.
I expected Bets to be put on a bus but not this abruptly. She has issues and needs to resolve them. I had hoped, with her admission, she was going to seek therapy; today’s strip doesn’t indicate she will.
A major part of the Luann comic strip since Gunther appeared on the scene is Luann’s off and on relationship with him. Most recently with the near kiss and giggle bedroom play at the Gulag and her prurient interest in Gun and Bets’ extracurricular activity. Deep in his psyche, Greg is pulled to keep that relationship alive.
Gunther’s character is, if nothing else, sincere. His profession of love cannot have been done without serious consideration by the creators, GnK. In his past serious relationships (Luann, Rosa, Tiff) each was seriously flawed in some way at that time. Luann and Tiff “grew” (exhibited less self centered views) while Rosa did not. Bets is the most virulent love interest Gunther has been paired with – at least with regard to she being self-centered and a user.
Bets’ apparent shift in her basic view of Gunther is dramatic and signals a change in what’s coming in the story of Gun and Bets. To Bets or not to Bets? That will be is the question.
Sorry Gunther, but the breakup already happened when she left you standing in that parking lot, then ghosted you for a month. Most other guys would have realized that, and moved on already.
And OK Bets has issues to work out. But she couldn’t have contacted Gunther a day or two after she left him and said some of the things she’s telling him now? With the added stipulation: “Please don’t try to contact me anymore, Gunther. I’ll get in touch with you when I’m ready.”
But no, Bets did none of that. She wouldn’t even be talking to Gunther now if Tiff hadn’t lured her out with the promise of money. Gunther would have went on for the next 3-4 months without hearing from Bets, and still wondering what happened.
GEEZ!! Bets is really trying to get out of this relationship (and the gazebo) but now here comes eavesdropping Tiffany to interfere – AGAIN. They should all just leave her alone to sort things out in her own time. Don’t forget to give her the $300 Tiffany!
Help ‘em out Tiffany! She’s actually become my favorite character…she has a knack for stirring things up. A little pizazz is welcome and needed at times (^.^)
Yep, I was waiting for Tiffany to show up. Not sure what words of wisdom she will impart, but ‘twil be interesting. Other than pointing out the obvious that Gunther and Bets enjoy cosplay and both are smart, not sure what else she can add.
Gunther, please just get up and leave. You deserve so much better. Bets, if your love is so flawed, why did you ever go on a date to begin with. If her statement is true, then she lied to Gunther all this time. She just flat out used Gunther. She had every intention of tossing him aside right from their first date. Tiffany, while trying to help needs to MYOB cause even if they do get back together now, Bets will still break up later. Unless Tiff pulls the ultimate switcheroo, grabs Gunther and together they walk out of the Pagoda of Peace.
I don’t buy the excuses Bets is giving. She ignored Gunther’s calls and texts for weeks. Was she EVER going to contact him?? Bets did not seem happy to see Gunther at all last week. She just seemed angry at Tiffany. I think Bets would have continued to ignore Gunther. Good for Tiffany for being a caring friend to Gunther. At least he is getting some answers out of Bets.
Poor Bets. She is really trying to be nice about this. She just doesn’t want to be serious right now. She wants to sort through personal issues. What does it take to have people honor her wishes? Does she have to get mad? It sure looks like Tiffany is and it’s none of her damn business.
So, weird question, what is the “right”/“correct” way to break up with someone? Especially someone like Gunther who seems to be way more into Bets then she is into him? I’m seeing a lot of hate directed at Bets for “ghosting” Gunther (seriously, he doesn’t even have a credit card and LYTF??). From Bets perspective, she needed time, let him know that, and is in a relationship that isn’t giving her what she needs. She’s now been tricked by Tiff into giving Gunth the “closure” he feels he’s owed, as well as $300 poorer. Meanwhile, people seem to be implying that she’s responsible for Gunthers emotional state, rather than GUNTHER being responsible for that – it’s not unreasonable for her to have an expectation that he is a grown adult who should be capable of handling his own emotions. So what is the “correct” way for Bets be honering her need to get out of the relationship, while still babysitting Gunther (who hasn’t got a credit card or LYFT while she is majoring in business & presumably making money off social media?!). Should she have splashed it all over social media? Payed MORE money and gone to a nice restaurant for a high drama dumping?
Let them be together. It’s better he experience this type of female’s mind fxxk now (not trying to sound sexist but both men and women have their own particular nonsense lol). He’s young and it will be a great learning experience for the future. How old are they supposed to be, around 20? Better to experience it now and not at 40. JMHO
Face it Gunther. Ghosting is a cowardly way of saying I’m not interested in being with you anymore. Please don’t try to force her hand. Her tacit message should have been sufficient, and you should have enough self respect not to grovel. Regardless of the outcome here, because of Bets’ actions, it will never be the same between the two of them.
Look, kids! Tiffany swoops in like a great Guardian Angel! But I’m not sure even her instinctive improvisational prowess can straighten out Bets, who is showing herself to be one seriously twisted and confused young woman. Bets needs therapy, not Gunther.
Unfortunately, Gunther needs someone (female), whether it’s Bets, or Tiff, or (God forbid!) Luann….
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that we’ve had two back-to-back storylines about people in relationships acting weird. I suspect (and hope) that Greg is going to somehow tie all this together in a huge plot twist that will catch everyone by surprise. I even have an idea what it might be, but I’d never speculate about it because I might be right, and I wouldn’t do that to Greg, LOL.

If you aren’t ready to stay in a relationship, you shouldn’t even go on the first date.

First Rosa, now Betts. Why can’t Gunther just find a nice white girl?

Gunther, please just get up and leave. You deserve so much better. Bets, if your love is so flawed, why did you ever go on a date to begin with. If her statement is true, then she lied to Gunther all this time. She just flat out used Gunther. She had every intention of tossing him aside right from their first date. Tiffany, while trying to help needs to MYOB cause even if they do get back together now, Bets will still break up later. Unless Tiff pulls the ultimate switcheroo, grabs Gunther and together they walk out of the Pagoda of Peace.

How can a 19 year old girl be so damaged. Imagine her at 30.

Gunther needs to stand up, pull Bets up out of that chair and plant one hell of a kiss on her.

Tiffany, now is the time to walk away, not butt in.
