Someone yelled at Shannon and made her cry! Now that was a twist I was not expecting,

Calm down Shannon. That little piece of hair is an easy comb-over. Nowhere near as bad as it might have been.

How old is Shannon? Ten? As if eleven is old, lassie.

I believe a quote from that great philosopher, Charlie Brown, is called for here, “Oh good grief”!

What was the point of this exactly? The nice conversation is ruined, but Luann isn’t that mad about the hair soooo, why? If you want to write an arc at the very least you need to stick to one thing. Either do the nice conversation or have her cut enough hair that would actually be difficult to hide.

Put the piece of hair on eBay.

We won’t know the effect until we see the back of Luann’s head.

Hair grows an average of six inches a year. It will take a little longer than a year for that lock of hair to catch up with the rest. Right now, Luann has a cowlick like Dennis the Menace. She is too patient with Shannon. Shannon should be sent to bed. The evening should be over for her.

Shannon knew how to immediately turn on the waterworks in order to get Luann to back down, and in the process she played Luann like a cheap fiddle. The kid is a lot of things but she’s definitely not stupid. Watch her manage to escape all punishment for her blatant disobedience.

Why is Shannon not on a time out? Who cares if she cries because she disobeyed, took a scissors and did what she was toldnot to do? The brat needs to cry herself dry alone in her room. We should not be comforting Shannon. She needs to be punsished.

Well, well, well… I do hope everyone’s monitors are sharp enough to see that Shannon did indeed cut Luann’s hair. Time for Luann to go with a retro flat – top.

Who else thinks that Luann is getting a new do soon?

Only one day left for the big finale for the week. What can it be?

Will date night spill over into next week? Stay tuned.

Two thoughts: Is Luann going to punish Shannon for directly disobeying an order? Will it be to cut Shannon’s hair? Send her to bed without her num-num? Call Brad and Toni to say she is leaving now and they had to get home stat?

And does this mean that next week is actually going to be about finding a stylist to cover up the cut with a new hair-do? I’d say “hilarity ensues” but none of this is funny or interesting.

Luann shouldn’t be so forgiving. “No biggie”? Wrong. It’s a BIGGIE.

Once upon a time, back in the occasionally enlighten good old days,”folks” used to cut off a lock of hair and mail it to loved ones as a cherished memento. Of course That was before the advent of DNA technology, where such hair locks could be used as evidence against you.

Well Shannon did accidentally cut Luann‘s hair as I hoped she would, but now i’m hoping Luann will even out her hair and turn it into a brand new look! After all, it’s been over 20 years since she’s had that hairstyle!

Maybe Shannon’s crying was legit… this time. But with her let off the hook now, it will be an act forever after.

I hope this is the end of another one of Rosemary’s Baby’s adventures. Dump the runt, and let the Shannon lovers join her in tears.

Boy the demonization of this comic child continues space I see. She did something she shouldn’t, she had a child"s willfulness in doing it, and when Luann expressed firm anger she cried because she knew she did bad and made Lu mad at her. That is.ttpical child’s reaction. I may have not predicted how this arc would end (although there is still Saturday and possibly next week) but the level of focus on child discipline and disapproval totally misses the humor or the intent of the Shannon character. I see a somewhat neglected child here expressing herself who needs more love and less punishment. But then I’m a bleeding heart and proud of it.

My disappointment: G&K still seem to think that this is the only thing to do with Shannon.

Until yesterday, I was getting hopeful that we were about to have a break-through, both Shannon and Luann.

But I was expecting too much, I see.

1212 and JPuzz: I was with you all the way. Just because it’s Shannon doesn’t mean it has to be evil.

But I guess us Shannon fans are just not going to catch a break.

I just hope Shannon doesn’t lose any teeth to all those who appear willing to smack her to infinity – and beyond.

Can we infer from Shannon’s reaction that this is perhaps the first time ever that an adult has raised their voice at her?

How can Shannon be combing Luann’s hair one second…. and then be holding the scissors that Luann took away from her a second later?? I guess the laws of physics cease to exist on Mr. Tipton’s stove AND in Brad and Toni’s bathroom!

If I were Luann, I would also have been annoyed that Shannon said she would be an old lady by the time her hair grew in (last frame)…

Shannon is probably one of the most realistic children I’ve ever seen in a comic. She did something bad using a forbidden tool, but she’s able to understand what she has do only after seeing Luann’s reaction and immediately begins to feel guilty. Luann is really a nice girl, she loves Shannon very much♡. I wonder if this will lead to a new hairstyle for her.

I wonder if the sheriff is on vacation. Since Monday Luann’s hair has been the wrong color and the lock of hair in the first panel is left colorless.

Luann - an old lady in one year? Maybe in a different part of the World?

Some have voiced concern and suggested ways for Luann to cover up the missing hair. I’m wondering who in this strip will even notice? Seems like not much attention is paid to Luann. Maybe Jack or Puddles?

This might be the first time an adult has expressed anger at Shannon. She is upset through all three panels.

That’s barely any hair at all… there’s been a whole lot worse done in real life!

Because yelling at her for doing what she was expressly told not to, would be silly. Can’t have consequences for our actions, now can we.

Oh, of course Shannon cut hair. No one took the scissors and secured them out of her reach. It’s more common for a 6 yr old to cut their own hair or hair of cat/dog/sibling. Some will even do this at school – which is why kindergartners and first graders don’t get to use scissors much if at all. I’m surprised she didn’t get into any Nair and made herself or Luann bald. An average person grows hair at 1/2 inch per month, or 6 inches per year so it might take a year for her hair to grow out.

“It’s OK”?? No, Luann, this is NOT OK. Tell her in no uncertain terms that this is a very wrong thing to do, and why, then have her wash her hair and send her to bed.

Although I do wonder why she left the scissors within Shannon’s reach in the first place.

Shannon, like all of us wants a little, “well done”, (I hate the phrase ‘good job!’).

It seem more and more they all just seem to watch over her, but not encourage her in maybe sports, writing, drawing, or whatever her interest instead of “living in the moment”.

Is this the first time we’ve seen Shannon show regret for anything? A sign of maturity (even if her attention span maintains a half-life measured in seconds).

All this buildup for no meaningful damage to Luann’s hair AND no immediate consequences for Shannon?

At least Luann realized she’s stuck. Maybe that was the point.

People are calling this arc pointless, but I can see a point. Luann is experiencing how annoying bratty children can be. Hopefully, this will quash any “motherly instincts” she might have had so that she can find self-actualization in other non-traditionally gender-conforming ways. Or it was just a waste of time but at least it wasn’t Bets & Gunther or Bernice & Nil. Yes, I absolutely prefer this to them.

I thought Luann was studying child behavior. This approach is exactly how you build-a-Karen.

“The fastest being on the earth is a toddler when you’re chasing them, saying “Get that out of your mouth!” " Real children like Shannon (toddler and older), are pretty resourceful, even clever, at getting hold of something – like scissors – when they know they aren’t supposed to have it.

Luann may be an old lady by then but I doubt she’ll be any wiser.

Bad enough Shannon cut Luann’s hair (fortunately it’s where it can be disguised.) But to say Luann will be an old lady in a year, that’s the unkindest cut of them all.

Shannon is showing remorse? Amazing! This is a good arc and can’t wait to see how Luann fixes up her botched haircut.

Shannon is told not to do something, she does it anyway, and does not face any repercussions for her actions. Now that is humorous writing. I think G&K should use it more often…oh wait…

Surprising to see that Luann isn’t more er, cut up with Shannon over this matter. Also, looks like the little one is already repentant enough, so it’s probably the best approach. Lu will make a good Mom someday. :D

So much is being read into these characters, in this specific storyline, that just isn’t there. Shannon was told not to cut LuAnn’s hair. Luann’s initial reaction was normal. Shannon’s reaction as a startled child who’d disobeyed was normal. Luann will get a new hairstyle, or just live with it, because yeah, her hair will grow back.

At least it wasn’t a buzz cut, just go to the salon and get it touched up a little, like maybe even up the jagged cuts…

It is a biggie and Luann should explain why, i.e. she specifically asked Shannon not to cut her hair; she shouldn’t cave and say it’s OK just because Shannon is crying. However, a perfect end to this week would be Luann and Bern sitting together and Bern suggesting ‘hey.. why not get a short hair cut?…’ where upon Luann considers a complete makeover as a solution to her indecision and self doubts. A new Luann looking back at her from the mirror might have new ideas.

Shannon doesn’t take critism well does she? but of course, its probably a first time for her…little overindulged brat needs more of the same.

This brat never has any consequences for her actions.

She should be yelled at. You were told no scissors and you used them anyway. Actions have consequences. Not only getting yelled at, but now the date night is cancelled. We are staying home. As much as I do like Shannon, she crossed a line after being told NOT to do something. Yes it is only hair and yes it will grow back, the hair isn’t the issue, the deliberate act was.

No biggie. What a stupid remark. It is a biggie. The disobedience of using scissors after being told not to, and the cutting of someone’s hair without their permission deserves a punishment. Luann should have stood her ground and made Shannon sit in the corner, or maybe no ice cream, or no tv – SOMETHING. She is not doing that child any favors by brushing it off with “no biggie”.

Shouldn’t have happened in the first place.

Wear a pony tail or bun, or get your hair cut short/layered.

Once more we see all the people who were absolutely perfect children come along with their judgements.

Luann proved long before the hair cut that she is an irresponsible babysitter by allowing Shannon to go through, and use, other peoples belongings in the bathroom, so I guess leaving the scissors within reach can be considered typical of her poor judgement. I don’t know why people think she is good with children. Maybe being childish and able to relate to children is some kind of gift, but seriously, if I had a sitter and I came home to find that my hair products had been used and were all over the place and that they had been playing beauty shop and the sitters’ hair got cut I would never use that person again. These are the kinds of hijinks two little children would get into together, not a child and an “adult”. I would always worry about what they were getting up to while I was gone.

In a Luann year it will be 2035

You should see the message board for “Rex Morgan, MD” over at Comics Kingdom. The Morgans’ daughter Sarah is a gifted 9-year old, who is a pretty nice kid, but so many viewers label her as a “brat”.

Nice to know that Shannon is actually capable of feeling genuine remorse.

Back in the dinosaur days when I was babysitting, I was told that I couldn’t punish a child I was sitting with, I had to tell the parents and they would deal with it. I think many people still do things that way; both my late brother and my younger sister raised kids (I never got married), and when they had sitters, that’s what they did…

I’m curious as to what comes next, not the tired debate about whether Shannon is a feral child. Will Luann step out of her comfort zone and get a new look that might symbolize the next phase of her life? Now THAT would be a new progressive turn for this strip!

Shannon cut Luann’s hair where her whorl is, so it isn’t an easy spot to comb over. She will need a clip in her hair to hold it in place.

Luann sez “ok, ok, no biggie.” I can sense a biggie clue to Shannon’s issues.

I still can’t understand how Luann didn’t know enough to take the scissors AWAY from Shannon, and hold them in her lap during the entire session. I thought she had enough experience with young kids by now!

No biggie? Really, Luann, you’re going to be a terrible mother. My mother would have slapped me to the middle of next week. There is so much wrong with this entire arc. No consequences for Shannon, and Lu is the one who feels like she’s stepped on the poor little thing’s feelings. Jeez. I know, I know. It’s only a comic strip. But, lordy, isn’t anybody going to rein in that kid?
