I was thinking of one of my dearly departed aunts today and something she used to say. Whenever she made coffee instead of percolate she would say perlocate. It occurs to me that this is a good example of something that sounds like it should be a word, but isn’t.
To me, a definition of perlocate would be 1) you don’t know where you are and/or 2) you don’t know how you got there. “I’m always so confused and perlocated”.
Does anyone else have any examples of something that sounds like a word but isn’t? (definitions optional).
Again, no need to grumble today, but the tables are still laden in the Grumbling Room (don’t worry, there are still some available for ladening (yes, I know that it should be “loading” or “lading,” but ladening is funnier), so don’t be shy about bringing more snacks).
The TV room across the hall is blessedly quiet today, so we still don’t know how Snowball will rebuild his fortune (you know he will, somehow), what exactly is happening with that mysterious bag of “Kibble?” OR if Bandit has discovered the paternity of Paisley’s telekinetic kittens.
Not . . . that we’re at all interested in such things, of course.
We probably need to start thinking about the menu for New Year’s Eve/Day feast later this week.
I am REALLY tired of GoComics going down—I’ll be reading along and trying to “like” comments, but have to try multiple times before my like will take; if I try to refresh the page, I’ll get the dreaded “we’re overwhelmed, try later” message. This has been going on for about two weeks now! Get it together, GC!
I love how Gutter slowly finds the pieces, then seems to think about where each one will go! I also love Sophie’s white, Juliet like, night gown! Oh! And Gutter’s, Jazz hands!
This is beautiful, I’d almost say my favourite strip (despite no Elvis). Sophie is gorgeous and Gutter so cute. It did bring a tear to my eye knowing how much she’d appreciate his talented trash art.
I love how clearly we see the seasons pass, showing how very long this labor of love has taken. And how perfect that her nightgown has a bridal look about it! Awww, Gutter and Sophie for the win!!
I love that Gutter knows how to write in cursive. I wonder how many of the younger comic readers had to ask one of the adults in their lives to translate it for them?
[jaw drops in amazement] Holy… Grand Gesture! What a sight to wake up to! I love how sweet Sophie looks sleeping in the window (and Starfish Squeaker is sleeping, too).
Great, the cat stole the Star from the Star Auto Court, now Jose Santos and Maria Santos will never find the place, their child, wanna guess his name, will not be born there nor will receive gifts from the three cowboys crossing the desert and Nick Catapoli won’t learn about human kindness.
I’m late with this, but just have to gush (again) over Georgia’s art and story telling. The illustration of the seasons (that lighter green of the grass makes me think early Spring…perhaps soon after Sophie’s heart was broken by Wesley’s indifference), then the next two in Summer, the fourth at the start of Fall, the fifth after more leaves have fallen, and then winter. The fact that Gutter collected these things for months, Gutter’s delight with that shiny brown ribbon (is that maybe the tape from a VHS cassette?), his thoughtful expression with “thumb” and forefinger on his chin as he contemplates how he can use the rulers, Sophie’s expression of delight and his sweet smile and little wave…it is all just perfect!
Sophie had tried so hard to analyze Wesley’s letter for deeper meaning. I’d LOVE to hear her analysis of this!

Adobe Style: So, if you would like to use some space-time fabric, we have plenty.
Pais LePrent: That would be so lovely! But does it have any special properties I should know about?
Adobe: So far we haven’t found any. But you never know.
Maat-Tilda: We have some lovely tapestries made of it. You should see Soph’s galaxy tapestry.
Pais: Oh, I’d love to! Is she here?
Tillie: I think she and her raccoon friend Sidewalk are out for a walk.
Pais: Oh, how sweet!
Enter Sophititi and Sidewalk
Soph: Paisley! It’s good to see you again. Have you met my friend Sidewalk?
Paisley: Enchanté!
Sidewalk: The pleasure is mine. Well, Soph, are we on for dinner at the Royal Kitchen tonight?
Sophititi: Mais Bien Sur!
Tillie: Soph, Paisley is interested in your space-time tapestry.
Soph: I’d love to show it to you! Right this way. Beatrixia, Ora Z and Diana Filly were just here climbing on it.
Paisley: Oh, they must have just left.
Soph: Yes, wonder where they went.

Wonder what he plugged it into so to get the power…a nearby exterior outlet, perhaps? Would a house that old be likely to have something like that?
Or did Burt just do him a solid, given Burt seems to have a secret hidden suite of tech stuff at the ready at all times?
