I decided to decorate my profile for Christmas with a photo of my dearly departed Siamese protector cat, Big Bad John. He was big, but he was never bad…or at least he never got caught;)

Happy birthday, it is also my oldest sister’s birthday as well and I learned a long time ago not to disclose her age but lets just say that she babysat me and 2 of my other sisters in the late ‘60s and early ’70s while our Mom worked and exposed us to a quite scary but wonderful show called "Dark Shadows’ every weekday afternoon. So again Happy Birthday to all who have a birthday that falls on the Thanksgiving holiday.

I’m not a gnome person, but several years ago my friend gave me one. He (the gnome, not my friend) was holding up thechopped off head of a flamingo. Blood was dripping on the ax, from the neck and body. When it faded, I used rednail polish to brighten it up. I kept him by the front door. He broke last year and I can’t replace him. :(

At least it’s not a bunch of theremin kits. (Questionable Content #4258-4259. The comic is sometimes NSFW, but those two are fine.)

The proliferation of gnomes reminds me of a similar situation with another little decorative item.

I had known a particular friend for years and had never visited in his home. When I finally had occasion to do so, I couldn’t fail to notice… and remark on… his vast collection of snow globes. There were hundreds. On shelves in every room, on tables, just everywhere.

I asked how he came to collect so many. He said he hadn’t collected them. In fact, he hated them. A friend had given him one some years back, he expressed his appreciation to be polite and out of genuine gratitude at an unexpected gift.

But word got around and EVERYONE who ever had a reason to give him a birthday or Christmas or other present would give him a new snow globe.

He couldn’t bring himself to appear unappreciative… or even to plead that he had no more room… or to remove any of them because he didn’t want to upset the individual givers.

I lost touch with him. I have no idea what, if anything, he did to solve the problem. I’d have given serious consideration to arson or moving to another part of the country.

“There’s gnome place like home” (anticipated by @I Mad I Am but my sentiments, nonetheless.)

There is a house in the neighborhood with the front yard filled with pink flamingos. A friend tells me he was a wood shop teacher at the local school. One day a student made a pink flamingo for a project and gave it to him. And the next year, he got another, and another, and another.

Turkey Leftover Day: Part two: whatever is left from yesterday’s leftovers gets made into something, possibly your own head … (see above).

National French Toast Day: Who has room after, and before, all those leftovers? What were they thinking? Oh, that’s right, they were French … or maybe German … or Italian. They wanted to get in on the leftover thing, and having plenty of stale bread, (You know all about the French and bread) came up with pan perdu. Since most of us don’t speak French, or German, or Italian, or even English, we call it French. In case you are wondering, yes, you can make French Toast out of leftover stuffing—assuming you don’t need it to make your own head …
