In the over three YEARS you dated that Harpy Ann Eiffel, you Took the Friggin’ time to take HER on your so called “business trips!”
Plus you took Ann on that cabin getaway, complete with servants, while girlfriend cried “poverty” and your daughter house-sat.
Work, Work, WORK. It’s always work, with this guy. Well, “Work” is no excuse. Especially after what his ex-girlfriend Ann, put his daughter through.
Sorry. But Tiffany should haul off and do a “Ferris Bueller” and drive Tom’s Ferrari (Tom DOES have a Ferrari, right?) right off the second floor balcony, into underbrush in order to get daddy’s attention.
Or better yet, she should DAMN the local laws, and get Tiffany’s “Table for Two,” off the ground, right there in her father’s house.
Heck, I’d turn the joint into a REAL pirate ship water and all, and invite Bets and Gun over as a surprise. She should invite Shannon and Luann too, as they already have the paper pirate hats for it.
Let Pop deal with legal fallout.
THAT should send a message PLUS get his attention.
Exactly what kind of a job does Tiffany’s father have? I thought Ann Eiffel said he was a lawyer back when she was truing to browbeat Nancy. But what kind of a lawyer travels all over the world? And if he is a business ,am what kind of business is he in? Even businessmen don;t have this many meeting and in so many places. It’s like he is intended to be The Absent Father and GnK just make up whatever seems plausible at the moment.
Considering that I think Tiffany is a vulnerable candidate for developing a drug problem. How else do people with nothing to do fill their time? Heroin and Ecstasy. That would make an interesting long term story for the strip. Tiffany getting into drugs, starts acting irresponsibly and forces but Bernice, Gunther and Luann to stage an intervention. It’s been a long time since GnK have done anything this serious in their strip but they have written Tiffany into a corner — no friends, no father, a closed school. It the perfect formula for drugs.
“I’m sorry, but I’m confined to this ‘Exorcist’-puke colored room, all because you were interested in what’s-her-name’s dream boy when you were in junior high!”
At first I thought she was gonna pitch the idea to her wealthy dad. His dad really needs to tell his colleagues to stuff it and spend some quality time with his daughter. What? He needs to make more money? Pfft.
Business? I prefer to think that Tom found his French upstairs maid and is looking for a modern Folies Bergere where they can drink a toast to Toulouse-Lautrec, then return to his hotel and discuss extending his stay in Europe. So many cabarets, so little time.
Well tom does have a point: he’s finally realizing he hasn’t been doing his job of a parent; being a parent. Tom apparently wants to make up for years of being absent from his daughters life. This arc should be good. But i have the distinct feeling a character from the past will make an appearance: either Ann Eiffel or Aaron Hill.
Any chance that Dad’s business is going down the toilet and therefore can’t afford the Maui trip? That’s the first thought that came to mind when I first read this.
Not good for Tiffany to fall back into the daddy’s little girl syndrome again. I remember Tiffany had all kinds of yacht trips with her dad back in the day. Now it’s more important for Tiff to get on board with her school and her job and her peers.
He didn’t seem to find it difficult to take off large amounts of time when he was with Awful Eiffel. Many trips and dinners and time for her. But his daughter gets immediately set aside once that’s over? Wow I really don’t want to feel bad for Tiffany but come on.
The price most wealthy families have to pay. All those busy schedules, you must be available 24-7, attend high profile social invitations because they need their rich circle of friends, etc… Terrible!
At least Tom is aware of what he is and feels guilty. Poor Tiffany! Is there any chance she could invite someone to use her father’s tickets and reservations? Bets perhaps? Or… her frenemy Luann???? Seriously, seing Luann and Tiffany together in the Maui would be great! Also, Luann really needs some free time to think and to get away from her usual life AND from Bernice.
Tiffany is twenty years old young woman, who has a therapist, living in a Mansion rent free and works at The FUSE. And has an Oxford who imagine himself as a knight and a Tiffany, a damsel-in-stress.
Tiff will look around her, now that she has the opportunity. She wants a guy who will be there for her, emotionally. Gun has already ticked that box…on paper only. Recently, Ox did likewise. We’ve not heard from Jack in a while, as well. That’s three directions this could go. Which one provides the most tension, drama…and laughs? That’s a rather tough question. Wishbone Jack vs Gun Play; I see Ox as being too safe. Then again, Ox has the most recency, and romance between him and Tiff would only be a temporary thing; perhaps a way to write him out of the strip, or at least out of Tiff’s heart, when it serves the broader purpose (i.e. TiffGun finally happening, enroute to LuGun).
Tiff looks like she’s about to cry, and I don’t blame her. Any girl would look forward to celebrate a rarely-occurring academic achievement with her only family…let’s hope things brighten up for her later in the week.
Well, the one thing they are showing that is correct. Despite popular belief the higher up you are the more work you put in. When I ran a 750,000 SQF data center I guarantee you I worked more nights and weekends than the guys who actually worked nights and weekends.
Tom is a world class BUCKET HEAD. He knew he had a vacation booked with his daughter before this business trip. He had the perfect opportunity to book this new business around his plans with Tiffany and show her how much she means to him…but NOOOOOO. OR how about buying her a ticket to wherever he currently is, finish his “business” then go to Maui with his daughter? I’m sure Tiff can do her classes remotely.
“Your dad, the F parent.” Wow, getting kinda deep with this one. I guess what’s sadder is Tiffany getting more character growth than the titular character. Guess we should rename the comic “Tiffany” instead!
Tiff had this problem before (when Tom started dating Ann). Ultimately it became a source of motivation for her to get her own life, become a business major and find her own business success. But first she had to go through some depression and overeating. Can she skip over the latter this time and move on with her goals?
I’m glad she showed him her “A” project, but I had hoped she’d explain more and get some support from him. She seems used to his canceling vacations, but it doesn’t make it any easier. An “F” parent, indeed. No excuse.
I think it’s time for Tiffany to realize she’s never going to get what she wants from her father. She might want to take a tip from other young people who have bad or distant relationships with their blood relations and develop a family of friends (and no I don’t mean attaching herself to Gunther and Bets). Find something that truly interests you, Tiffany and reach out to meet new people and build a mutually supportive circle of friends. I know that’s not always easy but probably learning to reach out to people is an area where she still could grow (after her years of being disdainful towards most of the Pitts high students). Maybe start by hanging out a bit more with Dez.
Tom? Hello? Your daughter has an aptitude for business. If you can’t manage to relax your schedule, then send her a ticket and let her be your PA for a week in Paris, Tokyo, Munich or wherever. Spend time with her and give her a taste of the business whirl!
A rather bittersweet strip today. With distance learning these days, there is no reason why Tiffany can’t fly to Paris on an extended Take-your-daughter-to-work trip.
You know Dad. It is summer break. You should bring your Daughter along. We know you are working. But there would be time each for you two, and think of all the places she gets to see. She is a big girl and understands the work part as well as the lady friend part. And she is going for a business major why not show her how things are done.
yes to Ropey (above); Tiff grew a lot as a result of this happening before; she gained friends, a sense of herself and a mission in life. However, in moving back into the mansion after Ann’s ouster, Tiff may have thought that she could recapture the ‘old days’ (jet setting around) with her dad. But there is no going back, only forward and I think this will be the take home message for her. This time, hopefully, she is strong enough to withstand and move forward with her life and education. She needs to think of that A as something she did for herself, not for praise and rewards from Tom.
Oh cheer up Tiffany. Maybe you can go back to your “Pagoda of Peace” and fondle some more wind chimes, since you apparently think that’s the cure for whatever ails someone.
Everybody has their least favorite character in this strip. Ann Eiffel and Shannon are probably top of the list, though not necessarily in that order.
For me, the least favorite character is Tom. I liked it so much better when he was always depicted „downwind“ (obscure Terry and the Pirates reference).
Honestly, this guy does not deserve to have a face.
My comment yesterday was late in the day, so a bit of a repeat: I think this arc is to get things set up ("I’m lonely here; I miss my dorm friends) for Tiff to head back to Hall A and bring Stef, Kip, Hair and Viper back into the strip.
