If I had a nickel for everytime somebody ever gave me that exact same spiel Bernice just gave Luann, I’d actually be rich instead of living in near poverty right now . . . but there’s something that some of these people never take into consideration: sometimes, you can’t change your life, because there are elements and situations that are completely out of your control that you can do nothing about, like inflation, Climate Change, hatred; it’s not like you can just wake up one more, magically lower prices so you can afford groceries, or do a rain dance to reverse a drought, or get people to stop being so sleep (the opposite of woke, BTW). If it was that easy, those of us who have “meh” lives would do it, but it’s not that black and white.

Never never ever help Bernice’s psych project. She’ll damage you with bad analysis and worse advise.

So the lame jokes Luann were pestering us with were meant to be lame and not a reflection of the Author’s lack of a sense of humor. And now we’re to expect a revolution in Luann’s behavior. I’m not holding my breath.

Run, Luann, Run!! Unfortunately, I don’t think Luann will run.

This week seems pretty disjointed to me. Where the heck is all this going???

Good grief, these two… Will they ever learn? It’s the same old song and dance but at least Bernice is getting a bit self aware about how often it’s been happening that they complain and complain but never really take steps outside their comfort zone… though her solutions are evidently as hollow as can be.

Word of advice to Luann, don’t help Bern with the psych project, knowing Ol’ Musey Magee, she’ll have you become her Pavolv’s Dog and classically condition you to doing something embarrassing and weird. Face it, you’re kind of an easy mark for that sort of thing.

Luann first it be Psych project then be something else and something else. Run Luann run.

She could take that herself, Bern.can, advice to Luann, essentially to change her attitude about life, more positive, less.negative. that won’t help the story currently

Pep talk? Bernice needs to follow her advice? And both like to complain about their love life?

A lot of people dislike Bernice, but she’s set up to be the sidekick — not as pretty or popular as Luann, with a less supportive family. She’s more studious (was an RA, goes to a four-year school), and that’s how she can feel superior. She probably does think she’s helping Luann with her observations about her real motivations and now her complaining without moving forward.

Well done, Bernice: now maybe Luann will realise that she has done quite a few things (as mentioned in other thread) – besides which she is how old? 19 or 20? How much excitement and achievement does she expect to have done by that age? By the time my father reached 20 all he longed for was a quiet and stable life – ‘meh’ would have suited him just fine.

And she needs a LOT of help!

Bernice is just unloading on Luann because Walt just told her to go get stuffed. If Luann heard that short conversation she could probably have a nice retort to throw back in the armchair psychologist’s face. I was hoping Bern would get her RA back and go raise havoc with Stef and the other Hall A residents but it looks like Luann is going to be stuck with her for awhile……

Bernice isn’t really missing Piro. She is simply seeking subjects. Luann may not be the best subject since she already knows what’s coming from Bernice. Not unusual, though, dental hygiene students recruit their friends and colleagues for training.

First of all, Luann should move out…AFTER cleaning her room!!

LUANN NO! IT’S A TRAP!!! After probably burning forever any romantic possibilities with Piro, Bernice seems intent on psychoanalyzing Luann in some way. Forgetting that a psychologist should NEVER analyze friends or relatives. She wants to lose her most important friendship too!? I might agree with Bernice about how Luann should take action, IF all she was doing was whining. But taking action is what she’s doing. She’s trying hard to become better in writing, she’s really trying to get to know Piro and has agreed to try skydiving. Bernice is trying to manipulate her through the low self-esteem she helped her developing, as always.

If Luann didn’t have a life like she’s complaining about to Bernice, where would this strip be?

Translation, Miss Know-It-All doesn’t know what she can do either, what they say is really true, ignorant people only speak because they have the ability to do so.

Aaaand since Piro showed great sense and walked away, Bernice seeks to soothe her wounded feelings by turning on Luann and cutting her down again. For someone who is training to be a psychologist, Bernice really sucks at listening.

That’s Bernice’s idea of excitement, but to be fair, it is “something”.

Or you could learn to appreciate what a WONDERFUL THING a “meh” life is at this point in history!

Bernice is a self centered fool.

Bern has a psych project due and was trying to make Piro the subject it. That hasn’t worked so she’ll try to get the information out of Luann.

Careful Luann, while there is some angst there, it is one thing to help Bernice with her psych project, it is quite another to be her psych project; and I think that distinction has already been blurred by Bernice.

We have Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and we have Bernice, Duchess of drab. Neither are much noticed, but at least Meghan is pretty, Bernice is just annoying.

Obviously, Bernice was going to make Piro her psych project. Now she’s going to use Luann? She should just abandon using a live subject and write a thesis on how to successfully open a discussion about a person’s mental health. The title will be Don’t Use The Word Condition.

Poor Luann. She has two qualities, rarely seen together: cute and caring. But, Luann, just doesn’t see herself, truly. Perhaps, if we all took a long look at ourselves, we’d see the great creation that God has wrought. Then Luann would see, that, sure she has some faults, but boy is she a beauty.

Well, Bernice was absolutely correct for two panels. Too bad Luann won’t absorb the lesson. After all, it was almost nine years ago that Delta gave her a dressing-down in her final appearance, and Luann hasn’t matured one iota since then (her life has gotten more boring, but she herself hasn’t matured.)

If her psych project is Piro, then Luann should take her up on it.

There it is. Luann’s whole problem. When challenged to stop complaining and do something to change her life, instead of making her own decisions, she depends on someone else to make a suggestion. Luann is lazy to the max and belongs in her meh life. Nothing wrong an ordinary life…..if you can support yourself while living it.

Doesn’t she have a skydiving appointment booked?

At first glance, this may be the only time Bernice gave any decent piece of advice (if we take her words as meaning “Be more proactive” and ignore anything else). But the thing is, Luann was wrong in her assessment – she was putting herself down too much again, Bernice didn’t even need to do it. Piro was laughing at her puns, her life isn’t “meh” – she is just a student, and as other readers mentioned, has done lots of interesting stuff.

She is unhappy because she believes these things about herself; and herein is the irony: Yeah, she should take measures to improve her life and solve her problems (which is her low self-esteem and not her “meh” life) – and the first and probably largest thing to solve would be to cut Bernice out of her life, and stop listening to her. Which makes the third panel infuriating really…

Truth is Bernice you’re a big PIA and no friends except Luann who puts up your BS

What would be REALLY interesting would be if Luann, during the psych project with Bernice, suddenly uttered that her best friend is always making her feel inferior. Now that would be a really good psych project.

Bernice is right. Luann needs to pull her mind out of “victimhood” and take control of her own life. Most of us have limitations, such as health, money, age, etc., but a victim attitude makes anything worse. Yes, life can deal some cruel blows, but with Luann’s situation, she’s got a lot going for her. Her self-esteem took a big blow when Quill left, and she never bounced back. It’s time she steps out of her comfort zone and takes some chances. Although, not skydiving. Leave that to the adrenalin junkies.

Bernice’s last line was cute! And in truth, helping others can help oneself, if you don’t continually put your own needs on a back burner, ala Gunther with Bets.

Bernice, you’re the psych major, as you told Piro yesterday so why do you need help?

Okay,Luann just did something. She ducked Bernice’s head in the sink.

I don’t understand where G&K are going with Luann, the strip and the character – other characters are moving on – even her dorky brother got his life together, made it thru Fire academy, has a great wife, friends lives are moving on, they know where they want to go pretty much, but it is like they are dragging Luann back to her high school days instead of her growing up, she’s in college, not 9th grade but that is how they are portraying her

These kinds of interactions that Luann has with her “friends” makes me miss Delta…

Here’s a little song from “Pippin” that might put things in perspective

but after many years of deaths/medical/financial/family/romantic disasters,

Today, Bernice suggested that Luann could help her with her psych project.

Tomorrow, we find out how. Though many of us already suspect how.

Luann should NOT call Bernice “Dr. B.” Bernice is already so self-centered and stuck up, if her ego gets any bigger, the town of Pitts won’t be able to contain it.

At least Luann can recognize her failings and shortcomings, even though she’s exaggerating them out of proportion. Bernice doesn’t believe she has any failings or shortcomings, so she just goes along secure in her delusions.

I believe Luann was being sarcastic in that last panel.

I finally have to stop reading this comic after years of following it. It’s just turned into mean spirited jabs with no redeeming qualities.

I’m assuming the B in “Dr. B.” doesn’t stand for Bernice.

So once again it’s really all about Berniece.

Bernie’s initial diagnosis is not that far off; but her self-centered “solution” shows how bad a psychologist she is or would be. Get yourself out of the picture, Bernie!

Luann needs to work out her own destiny (which, so far, seems to be headed towards a “nothing life” ending in Crazy Cat Lady-ism)….
