A friend of mine in high school had a parrot. I think it was his older brotherâs? It would call the dog constantly. But the poor dog didnât realize it was the bird. Heâd come running, sliding around out of control the way dogs often do, and then see no one was there. Who called me? Luckily for the dog the brother moved out after a year or two.
at first, i read it as âanimalâ crackers and thought of the Marx Bros movie and then Shirley Temple "singing animal crackers in my soupâŠ.. from the 1935 movie, Curly Top.
HmmmâŠOh YeahâŠSquawk! Screech! (Sounds of fingernails scratcing a blackboardâŠ)
What a perfect pet for Mrs. âWe donât like loud sounds or modern music.â HmmmâŠI wonder if the reason Admiral Crackers has been unadoptable and in the shelter so long could have anything to do with the boatload of naughty-cal cusses in various languages that he picked up on his earlier seafaring days.
I wonder if sheâll take him to bird shows since he craves attention? I still canât believe she was going to subject poor shy Sophie to pageants! This parrot seems to be a âsocial creatureâ who doesnât require âquiet nights in and little cheese platesâ.
Iâve been living with an Umbrella Cockatoo for the past 27 years. Macaws are the next size up from Cockatoos, and having a Cockatoo means you have a perpetual four year old with an air horn and a claw hammer! A Scarlet Macaw can open a Brazil Nut or a Walnut with their beak, which means you have to find them something more interesting to break than furniture legsâor your fingers. A parrot like Admiral Crackers is a serious investment of your time.
Hello everyone!! I posted this in a thread above, but wanted to mention it as its own comment too. Much like how the readers called the July Bug âJulesâ long enough that it felt like it was his name, watching readers embrace âTidy Womanâ as this characterâs name did make my decision for me! You all named this character!
Admiral Crackers, a therapy bird for Mrs. Tidy, to get rid of all her hang ups about tidyness and a quiet life. The attention parrots need when kept in isolation, i. e. without parrot company, the noise they make plus their untidy eating habbits should make him Mrs. Tidyâs ideal companion. Though, in all probability the poor thing is going to outlive her. Rumour has it that parrots are quite particular in their choice of partner. The Admiral seems quite taken by Mrs. Tidy, Mr Tidy, beware!
I love how Sophie is resting her paws on her Womanâs hands. So sweet! And then I love her joyous expression and paws in the air as Mrs. Tidy meets Adm. Crackers. Sophie knows a good match when she sees one, and the artist in her rejoices to see Mrs Tidy get some color into her life, as well as companionship. And Adm. Crackers wonât mind being in a cage or on a perch.
Oh my gosh what a lovely parrot. My daughter has a rescue parrot, and he sings opera. I believe his former owner died and Lisa took him in along with the rest of her critters. The rest of her critters donât mess with him, but they do interact. I need to get some stories from her and relay them to the orb.
Marie told me that parrots can live 40-60 years. That would be great for Mrs. Tidy. She wouldnât have to lose another beloved pet so soon.
In other news, I have a rotten virus that is making me feel awful, I was even running a fever last night. The Doc said it wasnât COVID or Flu; she checked for both because they are making the rounds in St. Louis.
When I first read this, I thought âHer name is actually Tidy? I must have missed that!â I thought it must have been mentioned before, the readers got it from the strip, and I was mistakenly assuming the readers came up with it.
Itâs very cool that Georgia let the readers name her.
Donât get this at all. Mrs Tidy wants a cat not a parrot. Parrots are noisy, messy and live far longer than a cat. I am assuming sheâs middle aged, and the bird could outlive her. Why not have her adopt a senior cat or other cat thatâs been there awhile.
Back in the early 2000s I helped with the Oregon Humane Societyâs first large hoarding rescue â over 200 birds in a single family residence. Whoo, the smell was atrocious. Really hard on those birds. I fostered 5 African Grays and a couple of other parrots for quite a while. They are amazing creatures. They do indeed need lots of attention and they are certainly noisy. Messy, but controlled once I figured out the right setup. One bird that I followed post-adoption went to live with the owner of a DIY dog-wash business, and spent his days barking with the dogs and greeting people then travelled home with his people at night.
The bird that Georgia drew (very accurately I might add) is a Scarlet Macaw. They are members of the parrot family and are conisidered a long-tailed parrot. They are a bird that has been wiped out in many areas due to being taken for the pet trade. Their conservation status is, however, of least concern. I recognized the species immediately due to Georgiaâs excellent representation.
Richard visited yesterday for a goodbye lunch, our local BBQ was closed so a new Woodstock themed Cafeâ that had recently opened, across from the junkyard when I happened to desperately need a part from (that did not fix my car), so Iâm âstrandedâ at home currently. Mr âSquirrelly Richardâ the former being a nickname B gave him ages ago, that fits him like a glove. He is still on the fence, and, given his history of abandoning animals at shelters when they became âinconvenientâ during the breakup of their marriage. I have little faith he will do the right thing. Barb is still haunted by the loss of her beloved cat âCowâ. We pressured him together, and I did so gently and with humorous anecdotes about moving with Cats on our way to pick up lunch. He wanted to pay us 200 a month to board Puddinâ, but we lack the space, and donât want to stress out Roy so soon after being sick.
I hope Burt will keep surveillance on the house to make sure Admiral Crackers is well taken care of. Maybe the mice can âdrop inâ to give Admiral Crackers a code word to let Destry know if he needs to escape. (When my best friend remarried after escaping an abusive first marriage, we came up with a code word she could use if she ever felt she was in danger again. Fortunately, she never had to use it.)
Admiral Crackers is a possibility, but even parrots need some time out of their cage to exercise and stretch their wings (even if their wings are clipped so they canât fly). Also, parrots have extremely long lives (80 to 100 years for the large species); she will need to make provisions in her will to be sure Admiral Crackers is cared for throughout the rest of his life.
Commenter #1: I notice the parrot has a tie, with the cats doesnât a tie usually relate to their collar color? Is the parrot wearing a collar. And I do acknowledge the parrotâs name is Admiral Crackers but it is easier to say parrot.
I think this is the same parrot who had a damaged wing at the V.E.T.âs office Aug 20, 2017 only he didnât have a tie at the time. Pucky said âThis bird flew through a rainbowâ
