I’m getting the impression that this situation is no going to play out as a summer lovefest. I am leaning more toward the two of them experiencing “the summer of their discontent.” The 24/7 lock-in will wear on them. Movie binging and sex is going to soon lose its luster. I’m thinking some sort of crisis will occur after a period of rising tension. It may play out as another temporary split as in the “Tiffany’s Tea for Two” breakup. OR! It may cause a confrontation with the parental units with some eventual resolution.

As Luann1212 often warns us, Luann arcs are tricky. This would be consistent with the midweek switcheroo type endings to some of the recent episodes.

The romance is gone, manse time to fire it up!

This is becoming a variation on the fable by Aesop in which the moral was “be careful what you wish for, you may receive it”.

Just laying there side by side? Who ya kidding? I know this is a G-rated strip but we all know young adults like to …romp. If you’re gonna do this all summer, you will find yourself awfully glad to see August and be back in school.

Anyone else getting the ending of The Graduate vibes off this? A relationship where the shine/excitement has worn off? Bets usually has that dissatisfied/disengaged look in panel 2 when someone’s gotten on her nerves and I don’t think I’ve ever seen Gunther drawn to look so dead inside before.

I’m thinking that this living situation being a turn-off honestly is something that neither anticipated. Tiny little no-privacy shack where they have to hide Bets from Mom like she’s ET and they’re eating unhealthy takeout everyday and hoping to bank on Bets’ e-celebrity to get money. It’s definitely not a recipe for a happy romance.

Now—which one will turn turn over on that narrow mattress and knock the other one to the floor??

Bets’ first love is social media. Now Gunther is a collaborator—so much for enjoying his privacy.

All their energy has gone towards creating a virtual relationship. Seems pretty true to modern life.

Waiting, waiting. This is hump day, the obvious misdirection play, they look so cute in bed together, so virginal. I’m waiting for arc resolution, others for break-up because of Bets hate, but I’d bet neither happens. But that is a tricky bet.

If they can’t think of anything better to do, they deserve everything they don’t get.

This is really depressing. Dunno if it’s because the situation is complicated and they’re stuck by the thought of be busted by Irma and Al or if it’s an agreement that already existed between the two. But seeing them lying on the bed looking bored without I don’t say hugging, but at least looking at each other truly is terrible! Makes me wonder why they are still together. If I think about the very strong tension that once there was between Tiffany and Gunther and make a confrontation with this strip I’m really sad for him, for Bets and for their relationship that is probably coming to an end.

Aren’t you guys hot? Take something off!

Okay comic strip writers – you have justified to your loyal readers Bets does not love Gun. She needed him to “prop” up her fan base, sew her clothes, and for whatever else the lying, self centered little creep could use “Gun” for. Please quit torturing us!

Nothing is funny about Bets, so no “comic”relief. Bets is not interesting. No painful use of B in this strip is justified. When we eagerly open the comic we are let down when seeing her and sometimes don’t even read it. I personally follow the comic for a little escape from the world and people like Bets I deal with. When I read a strip with B in it I am reminded of all the selfish and self centered shallow backward people like her in the world and then I need relief FROM the comic. If you have never killed off a character- this is a good time. Afterwards, keep her lousy ghost out of the strip too. Please bring Rosa back, or Delta, they are missed. Adios B.

Right, because y’all are locked in that house and incapable of leaving or going out to do anything, or even having Bets be there openly during the day time. Maaaan, such a rough time y’all are maki- I mean having here.

OK, you cannot tell me that they have not had sex. At their age? A lot of 14 years old kids are doing it now.

They could do something a bit more romantic and sensual since they’re all alone in that bedroom. But then again, this is Bets and Gunther we are talking about.

Gunther certainly does have better things to do. He could take summer classes to become an engineer sooner so he could get a good job and move out of his mommy’s place. And break up with Bets so he could study more. He doesn’t seem very happy in this relationship with Bets calling all the shots.

Life in the comics is missing an essential part of real life…unless you’re in “Pibgorn.”

Gunther only made the video to keep Bets happy. It was not something he wanted to do at all. When was the last time they were shown doing something Gunther wanted to do? Probably the Christmas dinner with his mom and Al, but that turned out bad for Bets. Maybe Gunther feels guilty about how his mom and Al treated Bets at dinner so that is why he does the videos. They are still poorly suited for each other.

Time to shower together!!! if that doesn’t inspire, nothing will!!

Actually the age of first sex is rising. Irma/Al should be about 45-50which would put them in high school in late 80s/early 90s when kids were having sex earlier. Also drug use was more common, so they may be in the kitchen smoking a joint.

This is the sad state of many young people today.

I wonder if Gunther’s mom and stepdad didn’t secretly “arrange” for Bets to be there, NOTHING PERSONAL-style.

So Gunther and perhaps Bets remain stuck with their metaphorical Zodiac sign for Aug. 23rd – Sept. 23

I feel sorry for them. Familiarity breeds contempt, especially when you are trapped in a box of your own making but don’t realize it. They are young and have a lot to learn. I don’t think their actual feelings are changing so much as they are feeling confined and the dishonesty is getting to both of them. Way back when this started I predicted this was a bad path—-that Gunther would please no one with all these restrictions and that Bets should have understood the situation and not have forced him into this corner. Now they both feel trapped and frustrated and can’t even remember all their “valid reasons” for doing all this. They need to have a talk and Bets might as well move out now. Gunther can either go or stay but both have to play by Al and Irma’s rules if their relationship is going to survive.

Just wait until the audience leaves so the fun begins.

Yep, this comic is read by teens and adults and today’s arc is just silly, although the idea of Betts ‘living’ in Gun’s room with his parents just a few minutes away is stretching the imagination anyway. It wouldn’t be wise of them to go further as many readers are suggesting, just in case Irma or Al knocks on the door to check out what Gunther’s doing and if he’s o.k. By the way, where are Bett’s parents while Bett’s is missing from their lives? Are her parents or any of her family still in the dark ages and not checking her online comments? Too much implausibility to be amusing.

Well, so much for this being a realistic depiction of a modern, not-particularly-religious (AKA sexually active) couple their age. And it also serves to hammer the point home that despite occasional attempts to convince us otherwise, most of the characters in this strip are really boring people.

How far will they go? And Tiffany…

C’mon, they got to be kidding. Honestly?

I can think of a thing.

When I first opened this on my phone, there was a flag icon right over Gunther’s crotch! I was stunned but amused. Then I realized it was an ad and not really in the comic, but it would have been funny. Maybe in the Playboy version.

Maybe Gunther is really gay and just suppressing it. because if he was straight. he’d have banged her and moved on.

People commenting that these two are sad, insulting them for being G rated don’t know how refreshing it is to be with a man who doesn’t want to take advantage of a weak willed woman. If you’ve been violated because of poor parenting you know what I mean.. and I am not sorry for “whining”! Respect takes more strength of character.

They either have a severe lack of imagination or severe hormone deficiencies. It’s summer. Leave the house and do something – anything.

I can think of several things they could be doing.

They don’t want the house a rocking so no one will come knocking. With pardons to Stevie Ray Vaughn.

1. I am gad to see the colorist has given Bets a normal human skin tone. Earlier in her appearances, she had some awful brown-grey tone.

2. This arc won’t end well. Gunther shouldn’t have to hide his gf. Yes, he and Les are renting from Irma & Al but hiding Bets is a terrible idea. Bets should get to know Irma, not shack up in Gunther’s room.

I am totally exhausted from watching Bets and Gunther’s hard partying lifestyle.

So much for us thinking they were having sexy times at Gunther’s man cave. This is going to be an exciting summer for we, the readers.

Likely the only rocking and rolling they will be doing is when one of them is rocked and rolls off the twin bed.

Betsy needs to open an ONLYFANS account. That way they can get on with the action instead of looking like they’ve hit rock bottom with nothing else to do. I mean, if the situation is too hot to handle, they both need to leave the kitchen (or bedroom in the case). This actually looks pathetic just laying around waiting to be caught.

Make sure the cartoonist draws Les clean shaven. He looks better.

I really think the strip’s creators are wanting to explore themes most newspaper feature editors are uncomfortable with. So we get this.

What ever happened to the girl Gunther was involved with from that other country? Not saying Bets is bad looking or anything, but she seems like she likes to be control and have her way (or no way) in a relationship.
