Tomorrow is Martin Luther King Day.

IMO, it is a gross insult to the memory of a great man and leader that it is also the inauguration day of a rodent who is the anathema of everything Dr. King believed in!

Too many Americans have an insane belief in superheroes. Maybe it’s a problem with the English language? Biased in a weird way to the negative? We all know what crime is, so it’s easy to imagine someone who does enough crime becomes a criminal, then a supercriminal, and finally a supervillain. So there must be a superhero to balance it out?

Why? What’s the opposite of “crime”? No easy word for the opposite concept. It’s easy to think of examples of supervillains who have killed lots of people. Some of them lived to ripe old ages, too. But superheroes? Not so much
Notwithstanding the pictures of the orange buffoon in cape and spandex.

Reagan began the era of de-regulation and tax cuts, and carried the banner leading the counter-attack against the New Deal (and the Middle Class). After his mega-parties tomorrow, trump will mop up, cutting funding, eliminating the last safety nets we have. No more checks and balances in this country for the next four years (or more!). One-party rule will entrench themselves for a long time.

I’m surprised that Trudeau didn’t pick a bigger problem that poor ol’ Donny is facing. Since he is now a convicted and sentenced felon he can no longer hold a liquor license in NJ. Hopefully the laws in NJ are written such that the holder of a liquor license cannot associate with a convicted felon. I wonder what FL’s liquor license laws say?

Trudeau was actually funny in the 70s
All politicians, no matter their party affiliation, got ‘the treatment: Nixon, Ford, Carter were all skewered
 But then Trudeau caught RDS
He lost all sense of reality
The man who could mock Reagan, never thought to bring back a modified version with ’In Search of Biden’s Brain’? The Trudeau of the early 70s would have jumped at the chance. But now? He’s become a woke fascist-progressive.

But this type of ‘comic’ really is an ugly use of the satire medium
and it comes from a very dark view of the world similar to the place that it attempts to attribute to Trump. Worse, I think it promotes the type of tribalism that more moderate Americans are trying to move away from. If you want to make America a better place, you need to start with a better discussion.

Though I do admit it came on fast

Still I do believe that it can last

    And I will be loathing

    Loathing you

But this hatred feels like fire

Well, these things are sent to try us!

    Poor America, he must preside

I think a coiple of 23 year old staffers were having a last minute contest to see who could get him to say the stupidest thing before he leaves. Yeah, but nothing to see here. Orange Man Bad and all that. Biden trying to add a 28th Amendment by shouting? If it wasn’t so pathetic I’d say let Carl Bernstein out of his shoe box to pronounce this, “Worse than Watergate.”

I got it. Really, I do. Garry Trudeau hates Donald Trump. I’ve read him for years and knew he is on the left side of the political spectrum. Nevertheless, he was a mainstay because his humor was subtle and insightful whether I agreed with him or not. Somehow his hatred for Trump has moved Mr. Trudeau to pull out all restraints and resort to crude, childish mockery. Don’t know the man but I wonder if he is just getting old and bitter.

Says Trff, the genocidal madman who slaughtered millions of his own people yet is still somehow presented as “the voice of reason” compared to Trump. I rarely mention how that kind of bugs me but it does in fact kind of bug me. Admittedly, I would be unsurprised to learn that Trump harbors dreams of slaughtering millions of people in the USA and/or all over the world but it’s not as though he’s made any significant effort in that direction yet. TikTok turned off its service just before midnight last night. They were not required to do this by the law that took effect, which only prohibited Apple, Google, etc., from offering the app for download. People who had the app were still permitted to use it, and TikTok was still permitted to operate. IMO the shutdown was the Chinese government playing “chicken,” seeing how “Tarif [sic] Man” would respond.

We know who blinked first. We know who turned out to be chicken. More important, Chairman Xi knows who’s the chicken. The self-proclaimed “King of the Deal” folded, just as he folded in negotiations with the guy who wrote “Art of the Deal” for him (if you don’t know the story, look it up). Anybody expecting Trump to pursue a “get tough” policy with China is going to be seriously disappointed.

Trump just faced his first test in foreign affairs, and flunked it. Not bad for a guy who hasn’t even officially taken office.

The GOP is a party of hypocrites!! In 1980, they had Ronald W. Reagan, (who divorced his first wife Jane Wyman and then married Nancy Davis) to run against President Carter. And then when President Bill Clinton had his fiasco with Monica Lewinsky, claimed “Family Values, Christian Values” during the 1996 mid-term election. And then in 2004, Carl Rove, knew that his boss [Dubya] would get a second term, on his record, so he sent his Cronies to Black Churches in the South to give Black Pastors money, to preach that “Dubya is a Christian”, to give Dubya a second term. Now, here we go again with ‘Chump’!!

From Wikipedia, US Presidents who made the Times Person of the Year list: “Franklin D. Roosevelt (1932, 1934, 1941); Harry S. Truman (1945, 1948); Dwight D. Eisenhower (1959); John F. Kennedy (1961); Lyndon B. Johnson (1964, 1967); Richard Nixon (1971, 1972); Jimmy Carter (1976); Ronald Reagan (1980, 1983); George H. W. Bush (1990); Bill Clinton (1992, 1998); George W. Bush (2000, 2004); Barack Obama (2008, 2012); Joe Biden (2020); and Donald Trump (2016, 2024)” In other words, most Presidents, including all (except Ford) for the last 40 years. Their designation means nothing, nothing at all. Ford, at least, achieved one thing that none of the rest of them ever did: he served as both vice-president and president without ever being elected, which makes him sounds like the Bob Uecker of politics.
