Tom starts off with what looks is going to be a bear hug, but then he goes for a behind the back hug. Something is wrong with that guy.

I believe the surprise news is that they got married. Not that Ann is pregnant.

FINALLY, we get to see Tom’s face. Is it me or does he look like a young “victor newman” from then young and the restless. My mom watches that show.

Well, this ought to be interesting!

Whoa!! Ann’s either engaged or now married to Tom! Let SEE how long THAT lasts! And the “baby” news just hit these two like a ton of bricks! Maybe Ann “Isn’t.” Either THAT, or Tiffany just spoiled a “surprise,” like I kinda THOUGHT she’d do.

By the way, Tom looks looks a little like a heavy set version of the late Stan Lee. OR the late Howard Hughes, Who was a wealthy womanizer in his OWN right.

I REALLY hope Tiff fished Ann’s clothes off the lawn and put ‘em back in the closet. Because if things go well, and Tom washes Ann out his hair and house this week, Tiff can get Bets and Gun to sell Ann’s Ex-Stuff on eBay. And Tiff can pocket the cash as compensation for Ann’s aggravation.

On the other hand, if things go BAD for Tiff, I’m taking bets as to WHICH doorstep Tiff will show up on first. The Gulag or the DeGroots.

Tom has been on vacation for a week or so. His face has been on vacation for decades.

Tiffany and Les did not have to scheme. This happened naturally. Ann eyeballs the ring and Tiff sees her opportunity to strike.

The baby scare was the backup plan if the romantic vacation didn’t result in a proposal.

So, the soap opera continues, alas. Big enough news (and a big enough cubic zirconia) to put a face on Tom, who must have done some consulting with the people who used to work with Nic Cage and John Travolta. Wonder how they were able to kidnap Ted Turner (or if Mordock is right, dig up Howard Hughes).

Looks like Ann is here to stay this time. If it happens this way, Greg’s about to lose his pun on her name (an eyeful). Ann Farrell sounds like it would be the name of the woman who feeds the sloths at the Pitts Zoo.

Tom got a great deal on that ring from Mini Elvis (Elwood). It is as real as Evil Annie’s stock of Souffle lingerie…

I suppose the man needs a face if there is going to be character development.

Strange, he had to go away to miss his daughter. Heaven knows he could have interacted with her when he was in town.

why is Ann mad? Because getting pregnant was her way of assuring tom proposed. Since he did so without needing the extra prompting she was going to subtly get rid of the baby without tom ever knowing. Either that or she found out on the trip that he’s been fixed and the baby is evidence of infidelity.

Oldest rule of TV comedy: Main character hears or sees just enough of conversation to draw utterly wrong conclusion.

I hope my guess was correct..that the ultrasound picture is baby Tiffany. And in the picture frame (behind Tom & Ann’s picture) is a picture of Tiffany’s mom. Still hoping we get to see what her mom looks like. Now we know what Tom looks like!

Yesterday I made a comment that the main characters in this strip are Tiffany, Ann and allied characters. This arc is now going to last at least another week, if not two more. Remember Luann? She’s a good natured young woman who was fun to read about. Ann & Tiffany are odious.

Is Tiffany staying in the Housekeeper’s room? Tiffany’s old room (Ann’s Yoga Room) is upstair. Did Tiffany clean the kitchen? Did Tiffany return Ann’s clothes to the Closet? Does Tiffany have a wedding ring?

OKMy guess is this is going to be “this is your evil life Ann”.A parade of characters will ensue. Les the Son,Mr Grey the brother , TJ etc And ……this ends with Tom throwing Ann’s stuff out the window.BTW- anybody pick up the interruption of father/daughter reunion …just once could Tiff win …

Just zoomed in on Ann’s face in last panel. Now I agree with others … that the ultrasound/fake pregnancy was Ann’s back up plan if she didn’t get engaged on vacation. Ann’s chin is dropped, a drop of hair sweat & in shock from being caught by Tiffany. Maybe dad will see the true Ann now.

Wondering why they decided to show dad‘s face after all this time? Inquiring minds want to know…

Ah, Tiff’s dad finally makes a full appearance. About what I expected. Ok, enough of that, let the family rift begin.

I think Tom Farrell looks most like William Powell, an actor who often played lawyers, detectives, spy, handsome devil type roles very effectively. One of my favorite actors from the 30s to early 50s movies. He did a famous movie with his back to the camera I remember, although I can’t remember the title of the movie, I think it was the Thin Man. He and Mryna Loy made one of the best rich, funny, heroic, detective couples in movies, and are the model for so many versions to this day. They are a joy to watch. Annnyway, Tiffany manages to drop a bomb, and it appears both Ann and Tom are surprised. Lets the fun, and hilarity ensue.

Could the baby have been of fetal Tiffany?

Wow! Three panels totally loaded! Where to start!? Tom has a face, mustache, physique and wears golf shirts! He apparently missed his daughter (skeptic here), Ann buts in, ignoring father-daughter connection, waving a not surprising engagement ring, Tiff throws out the baby zinger as a reason for the engagement AND Tom and Ann act shocked! Somebody has “some ‘splaining to do, Lucy”! Oooo, oooo, can’t wait for tomorrow. This should bring a ton of comments and speculations! Are those bored folks still bored? 8-D

Now is when “Da” tells his snoopy daughter that the ultrasound is of her.

With all the speculation, there’s one thing nobody seems to have noticed. If Ann wrote the note “To my darling Tom” to accompany the sonogram why did Tiffany find it arranged with a group of other framed photos on top of Ann’s dresser? Wouldn’t it be more likely to be found in Tom’s bedroom since it was addressed to him?

But, if the sonogram was Plan B in case Tom didn’t propose on the vacation trip then Ann would still have it in her room. (This fits in nicely with Ann’s angry expression in today’s Panel 3.) In that Panel, Tiffany is staring at Ann’s engagement ring and may have figured out Plan B and is hoping her father will catch on to what Ann was prepared to do if he hadn’t proposed.

OTOH, suppose the note was missing a comma, it would say “To my darling, Tom” If Tom wrote the note then it would be in Ann’s room. But whose baby would it be? This opens up a whole new round of wild speculation!!

After all the nastiness, Ann Eiffel gets a happily ever after?!! Well I guess that depends on how the whole baby conversation goes. Look at Tiffer being all growed up. After all the attempted schemes to get back at Ann have failed, could the moment she decides to grow up and be responsible be the time that she unwittingly actually accomplishes her original goal? Hmmm… inquiring minds want to know.

I’ll reserve the bazinga for Tiffany cos it looks like Ann has caught herself in her own web.

Why would Ann put a pic of herself and and Tom in a frame and not look in the envelope if it wasn’t her’s?

Wow… no further clarity on the story…. but a lot of interesting things to postulate:

1. We see Tom’s face….. first reaction from me… Howard Hughes, second reaction… Robert Goulet, third reaction… a young Ted Turner.

2. So…. with the fancy ring…. are Tom and Ann engaged…. or are they already married?

3. So… about “the baby”….

(a) Ann’s reaction (the underlining) seems ANGRY, Tom’s seems QUESTIONING.

(b) So, if there is a surprise pregnancy, then it seems like Tiffany played her hand and annoyed the hell out of Ann.

© If there is no pregnancy… then it still seems odd as hell that there was the sonogram on the back of the photo frame (it is also odd that it is on the back of the photo frame anyway at this point… since it was a photo already on display in the bedroom, but that is besides the point at this time). If there is no pregnancy…. I am leaning towards the idea now that perhaps Ann just put into the frame, a photo she and Tom…. over the top of what was probably a photo of Tiffany’s Mom and Tom… and that the sonogram is of Tiffany,

4. This “vacation” Tom and Ann took seems awfully short even taking into account the bending an shifting of time in the Luannaverse. It appears that from the time of Tiffany starting to “house sit” to now was only a few days… perhaps a week at most. Seems perhaps a little unnecessary to have a “house sitter” for such a short time span… I was anticipating them being gone most of the Summer… or at least a month or so.

5. Also in the greater scheme of things…. Tiffany doesn’t do herself any good by seemingly to never try to speak to her father alone without Ann around. She really should try it out.

Showing of Tom’s face finally mean he will finally be a three dimensional character (and possibly to stay?). If so this means either Ann is finally going to get what is coming and kicked out of the strip for while, only to come back and start something new. Or Ann is here to stay, but Tom will no longer be the scarecrow and finally get the brain the Wizard of Oz promised him.

I will hold celebrating, but not my breath.

My first thought after seeing the character’s reactions is that Ann prepared the baby pic and announcement in case she didn’t receive an engagement ring strictly through use of her charms. Hopefully this means her backup (and untrue) announcement will expose her manipulative ways.

Seriously, at this point Tiffany is about 1,000x more interesting than Luann. Can we please dump Lu and rename the strip to something like “Tiffany Twenty-Four-Seven”?

This week started off with a zinger

I’ve been trying to interpret Ann’s face on the last panel (ha ha like I have no other work to do…). I think she looks a bit nervous, like she hadn’t told Tom and only planned to if he didn’t ask her to marry on his own. And maybe she was thinking to just get an abortion. But now Tom might object and she would be stuck carrying the baby to term.

Typical Ann, trying to hog the spotlight for herself. Now that Tiffany spoiled the surprise, let’s see how Ann will respond next :)

The bigger surprise to me is seeing Tiff’s dad head on, instead of from the rear.

I think this marks the first time in strip history we’ve ever seen his face, isn’t it?

Well now… Ann’s reaction is priceless.

Just as Tom was finally having a moment with his daughter, Ann thought she could throw her bombshell, hoping that Tiffany would react in a way that would push father and daughter apart. Instead, Tiffany is being as cool as a cucumber and saying something that has them both needing to think.

Just because they want to marry each other, doesn’t mean that they planned on having another child in their lives. Neither one of them have been great parents.

Like the old saying… Love is blind… and marriage is a real eye-opener.

Tom, Ann let’s see how you get out of this.

Having glanced through these, I think Howard Hughes mustache-era is a little jowly in comparison to Tom Farrell, and that Robert Goulet’s mustache is almost always thicker. Howard Stark or some pictures of a slightly young Clark Gable both look spot-on, as do Mandrake and Julie478’s father.

Julie, are you really Tiffany? ;)

Options:

1 – The ultrasound is of Tiffany and the note is from her mom and Ann repurposed the frame, and neither Tom nor Ann have any idea what Tiff is talking about.

2 – The ultrasound is of Les or was purchased, and the note is from Ann and is part of a backup scam to get engaged, in which case Ann’s engagement may be in peril (although she’ll probably be able to turn it around by asking Tiffany why Tiffany hates her so much as to come up with a fake note, boo hoo, Tom your daughter is so horrible to me)

3 – The ultrasound is current and Tiff has blown Ann’s surprise (boo hoo, your daughter is a snoop and hates me, we can’t have nice things while she’s around).

Or…. Tom has had a vasectomy and cannot father a child, therefore, if Ann is actually pregnant, no way is it his.

Tiff must look like her mother.

OK Tiff, think fast…. you were making a joke about Ann getting a little on the heavy side, thus the pregnant quip…..better than admitting you were snooping through their stuff…..

Today’s strip, along with Saturday’s, were the real payoff to this arc. Whatever karmic retribution that Ann may receive tomorrow, the real story is about Tiffany and her ability to see her father as a real human being.
