Les, just climb up the rainwater pipe. That is, if the guesthouse builders did their jobs in securing it to the house well. Why don’t we test it?

I see that the guest house/gulag has exhibited its Hogwarts nature by growing a normal roof.

Disaster is coming, quickly.

I don’t see a good ending to this.

Maybe the boys can save up and buy Uncle Al a second outfit for Christmas. That grey suit really needs to be retired.

Les asks his Uncle Al for a ladder in order to get a cat off the roof, and the best Al can come up with is a step ladder? Instead of wondering why the lads have forgotten they have a cat, maybe “folks” should ask if Al has forgotten that he has people working for him? People who, without benefit of City Building Permits, erected the Gulag in record time a couple of years ago? SURELY at least one of those gentlemen, who probably still owes the “Don” a service, has access to 12 to 15 foot ladder, right? I swear, if this week ends with a panicked call to the fire department and Toni and Brad getting the cat off the roof, then I’m going to Meow. As I said, one “tug at your heart strings” cat story coming right up.

Two points:

1) How and Why did Punk get on the roof? Is he/her part Cheshire Cat?

2) As to the box Les had yesterday. Although it’ll probably NEVER come up again, what if that box contained Les’ baby stuff from last Summer? And Les is throwing it away to finally divest himself of all baby keepsakes from his hated mother, Ann Eiffel? If so, maybe that box will lead into the next arc featuring Les and his mom.

I’d love to see a reconciliation between mother and son.

Yes, how did Punk get up there? Do they have a kitty door? Are they in the habit of letting Punk run wild in the neighborhood? What about fleas? What about coyotes? Who is going to rescue the rescuer? While Thanksgiving be in the ER where the world least smartest person is having multiples set? Will Quill unespectedly show as a doctor. OK, that’s unlikely, But what about Rosa. The best way to help the indigenous people of her country would be to become a doctor. Perhaps she’s interning at Pitts General Hospital. Wouldnt that be a surprise for Gunther. I bet Bets won’t be filming that reunion…

Seems like Al is not the smart “fixer” everyone has chalked him up to be. He should have known that short stepladder would not help at all. Since Les is a snake, he could have slithered up the inside of the downspout.

Last frame – Gunther is exhilarating in Smugness. He has some more hard lessons to learn – if ever.

Oh, oh—Les is taking a long climb off a short ladder. Meanwhile, Punk will get down by himself…after something painful happens to Les!

People are always calling the fire department to rescue cats from roofs or out of trees. My husband always says, “I’ve never seen a cat skeleton in a tree.”

Years ago, my wife and I returned home late at night. When we opened the door, our cat zipped out, ran to the end of the hosue, and went up a tree.

“Get the cat back!” sobbed my wife,

“I’ll do it!” I replied heroically.

We had a rickety, slivery wooden ladder which I used to climb on the roof. But the tree was too far from the house to make the exchange, so I stood on the roof calling “Here, kitty, kitty! Meow!” for a long time.

After the long time, my wife came out, “Why are you up on the roof?” she asked.

“You told me to get the cat down and I’m trying!” was my answer.

“Well, you’ll be up there a long time. He came back in the house twenty minutes ago.”

I never before noticed that Les has a pear-shaped rear end.

My prediction: a series of pratfalls and the kitten makes it down on its own anyway.

I have a friend who died doing this. He lived on second floor, locked himself out one day and tried to climb the gutter to enter his apartment. The gutter detached from the wall and he fell and hit his head. Dies some months later after a come.

So, guys, don’t do this.

There was a cat on my roof years ago. I yelled at it and it just jumped off and ran away.

Mr Gray didn’t finish the Star Wars quote in the second panel. It should be “Hm. Bit short…for a storm trooper.”

While you’re up there you can put up some Christmas lights, take advantage of your time and effort.

I was hoping “Betts” would be around more, she’s effervescent & a good addition to this comic.

Nit-picking time here: If that’s Les and Gunther’s place where Bets just left, then it looks like the roof has a typical gable pitch. … As I recall, their place (prefab?) has an inverted pitch, so it looked like a giant ’ M ’ . … I wonder…

Mr Al Gray was a night club manager in Las Vegas who helped the Degroots complete the transformation of an old warehouse into the Fuse, using his connections. When he was a young man,he work with his sister as a team of grifers who did con jobs. He abandoned the grifer lifestyle and became Leslie Knox’s guardian after his mother abandoned Leslie to foster care. -There must a nefarious reason to why Al Gray gave Leslie a short ladder.

I had two outside cats. I had a ladder stored against a shed next to the house. The female would climb it to the roof of the house and survey her kingdom!! LOL!! I am terrified of heights, it was her problem how to get down. She always did.

Or, as we say down in this neck of the woods, “Hey, y’all! Watch this!” (But usually with a beer in one hand…)

It was a wonderful summer, now time for a great fall.

Les? The CAT is the one that’s the natural climber.

And could jump from that roof without getting a scratch.

I’m sure they will get Punk down safely but Les probably won’t. Meanwhile—what happened to the Jack and Bernice arc? One dream and that’s it?

Cat On A Hot Tin Roof?

Tree, roof or whatever, Leave the cat alone. It got up, it will get down. Has anyone ever seen a dead cat in a tree or on a roof due to starvation?

Why do I get the feeling he can’t do this?

Uncle Al. He has an amazing lack of motion, expression, and wardrobe. But, he has contacts which make him a mystery with a history.

This happened to us. Even with a good ladder, there are problems. You need both arms to descend a 12 foot ladder. Don’t know how Stevie got up on the roof. The first attempt to bring her down resulted in deep claw marks. The second time, I wore 4 layers of shirts and let her sit on my shoulder. As soon as we were close to the ground, she jumped off with no hint of a thank you.

I would think Uncle Al would know better than to let this go on.

This looks like a very dangerous beginning for Thanksgiving week. Is disaster ahead?

Well, the cat’s out of the bag now! As far as we’ve seen, and as some have commented, Al and Irma are unaware that Punk was not returned to the shelter. But I doubt if GnK will pursue that oversight.

As lame as this is, Les is demonstrating once again that he has bonded with his pal, Punk.

So many Moriarty’s here with the negative vibes for Les. I mean he’s trying to get Punk down (will admit doing it the hard way. Stand on the step stool, have Punk’s favorite treat or toy and lure Punk to the ledge. You can grab or Punk can leap to you). That said the people seem to miss or totally align with Gunther. Guess this is what happens when the group is saints.

Oh dear. I can see where this is going, and then some.

Uncle Al! Does this man wear anything that isn’t a suit?

I’ve never seen Les so worried! He is ready to do anything to save his beloved kitty ♡! But Gunther is right, it’s too dangerous. They need a longer ladder or call the firefighters. Les is certainly not prepared to climb and even if he did he, would be stuck on the roof with his cat… At least Punk wouldn’t be alone on the roof anymore ♡

They come down when they get hungry enough.

Hilarity ensuing but one does not know where this goes; hope no one gets hurt. Punk will probably get down on it’s own.

The neighbors are looking out their window thinking; “What are they up to now? First it was a donnybrook food fight, then a girl crawling out a window at all hours… now this!”

I can almost hear the ambulance sirens wailings.

In the world of pet rescue tropes, this will end with Les in some form of a body cast with Punk sleeping contentedly on his chest or licking his face.

Guessing Uncle Al would wrinkle his suit getting a taller ladder?Seems Les is still attached to Punk and will go to any lengths to save him. He doesn’t strike me as athletic and I don’t see this ending well for him. The kitten probably would land on his feet/paws, but not so Les. We may be seeing Brad or Toni sooner than later, for a rescue and in time for Thanksgiving? ;-o

If a cat gets up somewhere, it can get back down.

I remember when the drain pipe’s were made well and you could use them to climb up. Not made that way today.

Years ago I received a call at work that my cat was outside of my second floor apartment. He had jumped out an open window and landed on concrete! I’m still amazed he was ok. Lived to be 17. Miss him..

Call the Fire Department – Toni & Brad will be dispatched.Shannon will hear it on their scanner and drag Luann to watch.Bernice will follow Luann.Tiff and the gang getting offshift at The Fuse will hear about it and come over – TJ will bring food.Jack will come over, the cat will jump willingly into his arms.-A couple of days of this and we can have the whole cast assembled for Thanksgiving!

Five will get you ten, that Uncle Al wears that suit to bed! And five’ll get you 50 that he wears it in the shower!

Either Les is going to fall, or he’ll get stuck up there with Punk.

Why in the world does anybody think that cats need to be “rescued” from situations like this? Leave the cat alone, and it will get down the same way it got up.

How do you give someone a step stool when they ask for a ladder? I thought Uncle AL had a little more intelligence.

Umm, Al, that’s not a ladder, it’s a step ladder. Why in the world did he bring that over? Not to be a curmudgeon but this is the third strip in a row where the setup to the gag (or in this case plot line) doesn’t really hold up to scrutiny.

The cat can get down the same way he got up on the roof. Getting down will be easier because gravity will help.

Gotta let the cat find his own way down. If you rescue him from the roof, he’ll go right back up there. I know this from first-hand experience.

My people would not call that a “ladder”. We would say “step stool.”

I used to have neighbors with an older kitten or young adult cat. The cat would climb a tree, and jump to the flat roof of the apartment building. But, cat was not confident about jumping from roof back to tree. So, cat would look over the edge of the roof, and meow at people walking by.

We had a neighbor break a leg from falling off of a roof.

“Hold my beer!”

First time I can recall that an Uncle Al solution fails. Leslie Knox is heading for some hard knocks (apologies to Robert Conrad), and Punk is only momentarily ameowsed. Gunther is correct but unhelpful….

As stupid as this may seem, at least Leslie and Gunther did not think Punk was in the walls, leading them to starting tearing down the walls to get to him as Brad and T.J. did when they lost Shannon. In other words, there are stupider characters in this comic strip.

Cat climbed up there. He can climb back down.

Les is getting higher and higher up in my book. Anyone willing to risk injury to save a kitty, or pupper, is okay in my book.

It seems like Al has fallen onto hard times. Not so long ago, he would punch a few buttons on his phone and a whole construction crew would appear. Now he can’t even come up with a proper ladder. Or is he just messing with his nephew?

Take the step stool into the house and reach from the window.

Why are people making such a big deal about Les being on the roof of a ONE STORY BUILDING???? If he can’t jump down safely from that little height, it’s ridiculous !!!! Just toss Punk to Gunther or Al and jump down. Heck, he could even hang from the gutters, which would leave his feet maybe 2-3 ft off the ground???

Let’s be honest here. Who looks dumber here? Les, trying to get Punk off the roof with a step-stool ladder? Or Uncle Al? The guy who brought it over, and is just now noticing that it won’t reach?(Please tell me this week’s arc isn’t going to be “Ha ha, guys are so stupid”).

Does he have insurance? This could get expensive.

Now he is acting the moron and they don’t live very long.

I always caution people that I give advice to, that just because I’m giving them advice it doesn’t mean I know more than them, it just means I’ve probably done more stupid stuff than they have.

Les will get up to the roof, rescue Punk, and then himself get stuck. Will Al save him? Toni?

Uncle Al seems to have come up a bit short. The man of mystery who can get things done.

While Les is breaking every bone in his body, Punk will get back down the same way he got Up there.

I think “kittens”…we shall see.

Climbing up is one thing. Climbing down is… something else entirely.

Uncle still in a suit all the time. Was it ever decided what he does for a living?

1. How did the cat get up onto the roof?

2. How did they hear the cat meowing from up on the roof?

3. How did Gunther hear a cat meowing, and somehow think that was Leslie making some sort of wolf-whistle comment towards Betts…in the form of a cat’s meow?
