Technical correction: The term is “naturists” not “naturalists”. Naturalists are those who study nature. You might say naturists are those who live in it.

Dez may be about to get a surprise (or give a surprise, if she shows up to the meeting au naturel). A naturalist is a professional who studies and usually also educates the public about nature. So, hiking and stuff, like Bets said. What Dez means is a naturist (one less syllable).

Seems Dez was frolicking in the woods in an early arc when she, Bern, and LuAnn went camping.

Dez should try a minor in English also because, as many have commented here, she mistakes words for others. But maybe the joke is she did join a group of naturalists and assumes they are naturists.

Meanwhile back in Luann’s bedroom Puddles just left a puddle.

Naturist don’t go naked in normal society. Only when they are around other naturists who are accepting of it.

Things will get interesting in this quad. I think Dez will blow Stef’s mind if she sees the naturalist in her altogether! ;-)

This is the clearest arc exploring mature-lite themes that young college adults go through in shown through the comedic world of Luannverse. Tomorrow I predict that it will be more applied in some hilarious, but interesting, situation. I applaud the strip’s obvious contribution to this world by Karen. It follow’s and expands Luann’s world greatly, which ironically is why she is less the focus of the strip, so it seems. That’s normal methinks. One’s world grows the older people get.

Dez again shows her stoned out ignorance by using the wrong word to describe her new-found penchant for nudity. I personally would not appreciate a roommate in such a small shared space who was always running around nude, especially if there was furniture we shared in the common area. I guess I would be wondering if they were keeping things clean and tidy down there. The commenters here will call me a prude but honestly, she’s just weird and keeps showing more examples of her superiority complex. Dez thinks anything she does in the name of Zen should be approved of and accepted by all. She has no consideration for other people’s values or privacy. I’ll be glad when this arc with her in it is over. She is way more annoying than Shannon, and that’s saying something!

I don’t really think that Dez would bother joining a Naturist (that’s really what it’s called) group. There are lots of clothing optional places in California – beaches, hot springs, outdoor gatherings, that don’t require you to specifically be part of a nudist group. It’s actually not that big a deal there. I think it was more of a thing in other regions, decades ago.

NATURISTS, you idiot. Naturalists are people concerned with the outdoors in general. Naturists are nudists.

A Naturalist is interested in flora and fauna, hiking and all that stuff. A Naturist prefers to be unclothed. They are not the same.

Nudists are also called ‘naturists’, not ‘naturalists’. Naturalists study plants and animals in nature.

Bets isn’t wrong about “Naturalists”; Dez is. Dez meant “Naturists”.

Yeah! As Chuck374 just pointed out, a “naturalist” is someone who studies nature. A “naturist” is someone who prefers to go without clothes. Dez is planning to be the latter – good for her! (Although if the gods had intended us to go about naked, we’d have been born that way …)

Well, I don’t get Bets reaction here. As many times they were at camp together they probably saw each other in the buff more than once, and unless dorms have change, the showers are communal ones. The one I stayed in was. All the guys on my floor saw each other in the buff eventually.
