It’s just a matter of whether you have a cat or not.

In my house, it does neither. It sets on the counter, in easy reach — and totally ignored by the cats.

Toilet paper IN THE ABSENCE of cats, puppies and young kids should roll off the top.

IN THE PRESENCE of such unrollers, TP should roll off the top with a rolling brake. Or inside a room with a closed door.

Beethoven rolled over so should toilet paper!

I’ve read according to the person who invented toilet paper it should roll over. However, I have to agree with people with pets that like to unroll the paper, under may be better for them.

If truth depends on who you ask, don’t ask. Just open your eyes and stay critical.

Toilet paper should roll OVER – like God intended!

One thing we found out is TP is the most important thing in your house, evidenced by the pandemic. Our enemies could destroy us by blockading the delivery of TP

It rolls over as intended by the original design. Arachnophobes be darned (My sister is that and, although she’s my best friend, I said this to her face. She rolls under at her house just to spite me)

Obviously the “roll over” guru is a man, and the “roll under” guru is a woman.

Over, since back in the day when you could get T.P. with printed designs, that was the only way you could see them.

One time and over person married an under person. The marriage was over from the start.

It’s supposed to roll over & that’s the way P&G has Charmin embossed with its name!

Statistically, people prefer over. But when at work and faced with an empty roll with a full one not placed into the TP dispenser, I like to put in a new roll off the shelf (ignoring the already opened one) and place it UNDER. It’s obviously passive/aggressive, but it annoys someone at work to where they will put the newly installed roll OVER. I don’t get how you cannot be bothered by an empty roll in the dispenser, but get irritated with one placed in under? It’s petty, I know. But these are the Office Hunger Games 1.0 & I am fully invested. I guess I must be bored at work. I get paid so much to do so little.

I once was in a business that had a sign on the toilet stall wall. It showed a roll going over, marked “YES.” It showed another roll, going under, with the word “NO.” A third picture showed a roll sitting on top of the empty roll, which said, “YOU MONSTER”.

Over, because a beard is better than a mullet.

Glad to note more pilgrims are shown on the side of truth in this strip.

Or how about… “Tastes Great” and “Less Filling”? A beer blast from the past.

Then there are the cultures that think toilet paper is uncivilized.

The original patent for a roll of toilet paper in a holder shows the paper end over the top. So there.

For my grandmother roll over was closer for her to reach the sheets of toilet paper.

Toilet paper should roll whatever way your wife says it should… Some battles aren’t worth fighting.

Over, under, wow a lot of comments on this way or that. How about seat up or down? Cover or not cover down? That may get more emphasized in a home than whether the TP is hung right.

I used to be a roll over person, until I got a tp attacking cat. Roll under can’t be unrolled although he still can shred it a bit.

Hang it as you will. Just as long there is some.

I’m a former under who long ago realized the error of my ways.

The over-under argument has always reminds me of the left-hand/right-hand issue in the generations leading up to this one. My grandfather, father, sister and spouse all had to suffer the trauma of being forced to write right-handed. Their hands were slapped with a ruler if they tried to write left-handed and they were given failing marks and extra homework in penmanship because their right-handed efforts were not good. They were told they were bad/evil/dumb because the right hand was the hand god intended them to use [“the left hand is the hand of the devil”]. I made certain that my kids were able to use which ever hand they preferred. And I have noticed that the current generation apparently doesn’t have to learn to write at all.

So what if the original patent illustration shows the paper going over? Maybe he didn’t think the “under” illustration showed up very well. Maybe he just didn’t think it was necessary to draw all the options. Does that mean one shouldn’t stand it on end or put it in a holder? How many inventions are used exactly the way they were patented?

In our house we have the paper going under for the simple reason that when it goes over, the air from the vent tends to blow it around and then the cat plays with it. Earn “under”, the tissue remains clean and whole and no guest has ever complained.

We had to use old, pre-eaten, corn cobs!

The patent for the roll holder shows it going over the top, as any descent person would know to do anyway.

It should roll over if it is on a free-standing holder, and roll under if it is in a roller in a recessed cubby.

It depends. Are you in the Northern Hemisphere or the Sothern Hemisphere?

Actually, it depends on whether or not you have a cat. They love to unroll it.

At a music camp I regularly attend, one of the opening day ice breaker activities is to divide into four groups: Toilet Paper over, Toilet paper under, don’t care, and feel so strongly that you change it in other people’s houses.

If this were only the most important controversy…..

Life is like a roll of TP. The closer you get to the end, the faster it goes.

I prefer that the TP is there when needed. End of story.

I am quite talented – I can handle both situations with equal ease.

Never mind the cats, a rolled under roll risks your filthy hands touching the wall behind the roll. And anybody else who uses it. Did Covid teach us nothing?

If you have cats it should roll under or they may unroll it.

I used to roll over until i came home one day and discovered the entire roll strewn in my living room and my elderly dog sitting in the middle of it, smiling proudly.

Rolling the T.P. under is simply barbaric.

If you have cat ps that likes playing with the roll, it should roll under. As the cat rotates the roll, it will not unwind. If no cats either way will work.

What did we use BEFORE toilet paper?

Or will I regret asking that question?

If you have cats, it rolls under. If you don’t have cats, it doesn’t matter. If you have a bidet, what toilet paper?

Not to change the subject, but our dog loves our bidet. He seems to enjoy a fresh drink of water before it’s been in the bowl. I don’t think cats are smart enough to operate the mechanism.

Over is easier for you to access, as it’s easier to swipe down with finger tips than to swipe up, but over makes it easier for a cat to unroll it.

(If you reach behind to swipe down you can’t see any creepy crawlies hiding back there.)

I think a war over this is inevitable. Once that’s settled, we can move on to the pineapple-on-pizza dispute, and then my personal favorite: should you use cold or hot water when you brush your teeth?

I convinced my wife that the roll should go over. I just told her that if the paper gets closer to the wall any spider or crawling insect might hide behind it. Case closed…

Tsk, toilet paper can’t roll under, it rolls over the top, just forward or backward, and obviously the only sensible way is forward. ;)

Interesting bit of trivia. TP rolled under lasts longer. The small amount of friction when you pull it off the wall and slightly upwards will on average mean you’ll use a square or two less per pull. So if you are all about easy, go over, if you are all about thrift, go under.

it has to roll over the top because when you wipe and accidently touch the wall the other way it leaves particles behind. ha. i said behind.
