Here comes the other mom talk. I have a hunch it will go well.

Like I said, I called it. The whole month of June has been nothing but more tired, trite, rote, drama with the Moony Roomies that has long passed its expiration date. Skipping yet another week.

So they haven’t been pulling the wool around anyone’s eyes after all.

Surprise, Surprise.

Uh, Mrs. Berger, Bets doesn’t answer to you.

I’ll admit I’m surprised that Bets even tried the just-here-for-a-brief-visit line, contrary to my prediction in yesterday’s comments that she’d know better. Of course I’m not at all surprised that Irma isn’t buying it. Irma seems pretty composed, though, so I’ll go out on a limb and predict that she’ll stay calm and not start throwing a hissy fit once she’s alone with Bets.

Is he using birth control? Are you using birth control? You both are. Good. Stay on it. BOTH of you! End of discussion.

And Gunther is about to be left out of a conversation that SHOULD include him.

That’s too bad.

Because if Irma starts to read the riot act to Bets, Gunny could remind his mom of the time she said that she liked Bets, plus how Tiffany was allowed to stay at the Gulag with complete trust and no questions asked and no “heart to heart talks.”

Poor Gunny.

It’s like the Wagner Group is goose-stepping toward his doorstep, only this time They are NOT “turning around.” :-(

I see Irma as being upset. Her tone and that she deliberately excluding Gunther says all that. Now will come out and tell Bets that she’s opposed to Gunther ever, ever marrying a colored girl? Because Irma’s few interactions with Bets has been strikingly hostile. Far beyond any objection to their having sex.

Say bye-bye Bets Gunnie You need 4 years USMC or more? Your never going to have anyone to love. In that house you belong to Momma. Or go with Bets and have a great fun life. Once Mom see your first born that will change Mom for good.

Well…at least Irma is referring to Bets by name and not as “your little friend “ as she did at the dinner table. MAYBE this chat will be apologetic, at least to some degree, and the basis of a respectful relationship going forward. Maybe…?

Why, in this day and age, is this an issue? I’m going to guess tthat Gunther’s mom doesn’t have a problem with any of it at all. What is wrong wit all of you that do?

Could it be a conversation like Nancy and Tony’s years ago? Will Irma accept Bets and let Gunther go free?

Why are the parents the only one with common sense?

Irma wants to have the mom talk with Bets while Bets is trying to escape this should be fun.

“We got LOTS to talk about. First, how stupid do you think I am?”

I’ll have to wait this one out. Advice from Irma, with her track record, needs a big caution sign. Remember, she’s the one who married Al, a truant from a Las Vegas Mafia money laundering school and social club.

Not a good idea to lie to Irma’s face, Bets. She’s not an idiot.

They’ve clearly known about Bets living there for some time. I’m curious what she’ll say to Bets… because there is a bit of hypocrisy, since they happily let Tiff stay there for so long.

So will Gunther demand to be included in the talk or will he let Bets take the hit by herself??

Well, well—Irma actually called Bets by name!! Now, will she apologize for her atrocious behavior at that dinner party?

And if she does, will Al concur?

Or will she just demand that Bets leave her “baby” alone??

So WRONG, on a social level. Mom should be talking with the legal tenant, her son. And adult Gunther should not let his gf face this alone.

So RIGHT, on an arc level. Bets faces consequences of her vlog, and little Gunthie faces none.

How harsh might this get? Irma was pointedly rude to Bets at the family dinner. I think Gunther must be 20 by now – Bets maybe a little older? If Irma continues to treat them like children, it’s time for at least one of them to grow up.

Bets is busted! Five more days! What will happen next?

She has her arm hooked around Bets’s; she isn’t dragging her away forcefully. The pending talking may be a productive one yet.

Considering Gunther’s mom being a bit ignorant, I was half-expecting her to fall for that for a few strips. But NOPE! I’m hoping the “We need to talk” will turn into “Ok, I can’t get you to not stay, so here’s some house rules.” Not holding my breath, though. Considering she’s a helicopter mom, I get the bad vibe she’s gonna tell her to break up with Gunther.

Irma is still smiling and is sooooo kind, it’s creepy! I’m worried about Bets, it’s impossible to understand if Irma wants an open dialogue or if she’s s coldly preparing herself to annihilate Bets with a smile on her lips. Bets looks rightly terrified, but this confrontation was inevitable. I wonder if after she will still go to the pool at Tiffany’s or if she will go to her to tell her everything about this and ask for hospitality. I think Bets was a little offended at Tiffany because she told her how absurd was her fight with Irma, but Tiffany is the only one who could advise and help her now.

“I was only here a minute! Gotta run!” Way to stand your ground, Bets.

I expected an outburst from Irma. Surprised. Seems like this talk will be sensible, frank, low-key, but stern. May end up with acceptance and a hug.

Had to look closely, but Greg is going out in Bets’ bag today.

Let’s hope Irma can be reasonable about this and let Gunther live his own life. They are not children.

So, is Irma going to read Bets the Riot Act?

Should we say, “All Bets are off”?

Sadly I think Gunther’s Mom is going to try to be “cool” and just say to use “protection” as this woman destroys his virtue (and her own).

It’s 100% fine she bedding Er ah I mean sleeping, uh er, staying there..

There is going to be a twist to this arc. Right now it is much too predictable.

This can’t be good.

Maybe their video about sneaking around went viral, and mom has already seen it.

I thought Mom would be more understanding than Gunt suspected. His mom is more hip than he had thought.

She’s wearing her default expression, so we can’t tell what she thinks yet.

Something doesn’t add up! On Dec. 13, 2021 Bets first proposes that she move in with Gunther over winter break. Over the next three days she indicates that she does not see that Gunther’s parents might possibly object and tells him to “inform” them instead of “ask.” The week ends with Les informing them that Uncle Al might object to a guest without paying rent.

It picks up on the 20th with Gunther introducing Bets as his “girlfriend.” Enter Al thinking that Gunther has proposed marriage. Gunther says “Bets is living with me” and the feces flies into the fan. The 22nd continues with Al and Irma saying that is unacceptable. Al suggest they get married and pay him rent. Irma loudly disagrees! Gunther then begins to propose to Bets but Bets stops him. On Christmas Eve, Bets says “I want to live with you … but not if it upsets everyone.” She then gives Irma a hug indicating she wants to be part of the family. The Christmas Day strip shows the new “family,” all smiles, posing for a picture before dinner.

Fast forward to February 8, 2023. Bets shames Gunther into spending the night. The very next week, week of the 13th, she moves Tiff out of the Gular by telling her she can room with Dez at the quad. Move along to April 18, 2023. Bets indicates to Tiff that the “secret shack-up,” as Tiff puts it, has been accomplished to “show (Gunther) that his mom can’t tell us what to do.”

Somewhere in there we had the disastrous dinner with Al and Irma, where they, apparently, indicated that they prefer Tiff over Bets.

Somehow Karen’s story focus has moved from goodness and light on Christmas 2021 to darkness and conflict.

Is Irma going to have the TALK, with Betts?

Seriously, Counters, Dumpster, like many of you on here, was not worthy of Hawt Betts; she’s way to good for him just like Stunning Ann❤️Eiffel is way too good for any of you. I tend to think Irma is not one to hide her feelings at least when she’s without Al; what you see is what you get. and I don’t think we have ever seen Irma get angry. she knows a bit about human nature and that to try to keep two people who love each other apart is a pretty useless exercise. So I think this will be a talk of acceptance but with some boundaries.

Okay, wouldn’t you say her son had a hand in this though? Why is she singling Bets out?

Well, you don’t keep something secret by putting it on the internet for crying out loud. Might as well announce it on billboards and the evening news while you’re at it..

Anyone who is having a relationship with her son is someone that Irma wants to have a relationship with (herself). I think that’s what this is all about.

She doesn’t seem mad, so that might be promising.

Was Gunther born after a clandestine relationship that did not work out? Hence no father in the picture? Irma wants to prevent history repeating itself?

Kids! Always thinking they came up with a clever, original idea…

Mom knows all the tricks.

Gunther can certainly join this conversation. No need to let Bets face his mom alone. But Gunther won’t stand up to his mom, so Bets will need to handle this alone.

Well the gig is up. This is not going to end well. I simply do not see Irma totally changing her mind, especially since they’ve attempted to deceive her! She will probably be more upset about that than the current living arrangements IMO. She’s not going to explode as some people are hoping, but she WILL express her disappointment and strongly chastise Bets. I do hope they have a long talk that improves their relationship and provides greater understanding for both of them.

Parents can be like that….

No major comment here, I expected it, although how exactly it would set up I took the smart bet and waited. I going to continue to wait on prediction, although I notice that Irma takes subtle control by the way she hooks Bet’s arm in hers as they go around to Bet’s car. That they knew? Please, they knew from or near the start.

These two girls have a lot to talk about. Gunther’s ears should be pretty much burned off by the time they finish. I think Irma is going to be kind, and maybe, just maybe, apologize for her rude behavior at dinner (which is loooong overdue). She may have concerns about Gunther finishing his education, if they are using birth control, and what their future plans are. I do not think she is going to abandon her beliefs and tell Bets they can live together under her (guest house) roof. Maybe Al invested in a little apartment somewhere that they can rent. Should be interesting.

Moms always know!

I can pretty much tell that this is going in the expectedly wholesome route of Irma making up with Bets. Irma will probably end up taking all the blame. And, being fair here, Irma did start it by being infamously rude during the dinner debacle. But I anticipate them glossing over the fact that Bets has shown herself to be petty and spiteful to deliberately undermine Irma’s ground rules. Given she and Gunther did that without actually TALKING to Al and Irma about their ground rules like normal sensible people.

Honestly, I’ve seen it coming as the resolution but it does get on my nerves that Bets displays really negative traits but never gets adequately called out for them. I feel like Irma won’t be the one to call her out on her behavior too given the characterization of Irma thus far.

September 10, 2019. Irma asked Gunther about Bets and she was wearing the same dress or one like it. ;-) News of the cat adoption pre-empted the conversation.I like this.

So the question is how mature is irma going to be? does she think bets is leading gunnie astray or does the extremis that they go to , to be together convince her betts really loves her boy.

Tell her to always carry some morning after pills.

It’s either the birth control talk or the “we don’t want any brown babies” talk

‘Chat’ is a casual conversation between two or more people. It’s more of an informal kind of talk. Tomorrow we will see what Irma’s definition is.

I hope this works out well for Gunther. He is one of my favorite comic strip characters because I relate to his nerdiness. I am surprised at how much I care about this guy.

A number of “folks” here seem to be perfectly fine with Irma taking Bets for a little private intimidation. Uh, I meant “talk.”

So.

I wonder if Al will show up next and have a little private “talk” with Gun? It would be the first. And seeing that Al barely ever talks to Gunny anyway, except when he berating him about something that Les started, or enforcing some silly “rule,” I’d wager that “conversation” would be anything but “pleasant.”

Everyone seems to ignore the fact that Irma can come back and talk to Gunther. He’s not running off anywhere. I prefer one-on-one conversations.

Just remember, Bets. You were the one who wanted to spend the summer living with Gunther. He went along with it, sure, but it was all your idea. Don’t get all “Gunther this and Gunther that” with Irma.

So it’s blame it all on Bets time Irma? No responsibility to precious Gunnie? That explains so much about him.

Irma just asked Bets if her I-Phone is pregnant

.I think everyone who feels Irma hates Bets or some version is dead wrong. She is concerned for Gunther. That’s it. But we will see.

As for the “I don’t like this story line” groupies, just stop. You have no say. It won’t change because you want it to and when it does, you’ll just whine about the new arc anyway.

She will tell Bets that she is worried Gunther is not getting a good nights sleep sharing a twin bed and that she will loan them the money to buy a full size sleep number bed.

So wait…Mama’s little boy gets off the hook and only the girl gets blamed for this??? No wonder Gunther is weird!
