YAY! Mrs. Horner is still alive!

Now, let’s go in and visit her and find out how she is doing..

Will she finish her class out or is she going to officially retire?

Okay, well, I didn’t expect that twist. I mean, yeah, Mrs. Horner is still alive, despite what the dialogue was about to suggest yesterday, but as is usually the case with this scenario, I expected this to build up to her checking out of the place and moving on to experience more out of life, like others predicted . . . sounds like in this case, Mrs. Horner is actually facing the reality of her own mortality.

Karen really needs to refresh her joke book. This material is both old and lame. Also it frightens the children who might think Mrs. Horner has died. While I await the conversation with Mrs. Horner, I am an old man and don;t want to die in the waiting.

This is the trouble with people/society being evasive or in denial about death and dying – we get a whole raft of ambiguous phrases which half the time cause confusion. But how sad – one minute Mrs Horner is living independently and teaching; then she faints, and not only moves to a Home but then into the greater care wing.

When I am told that someone has passed, I want to offer congratulations, and ask what they passed. University finals? Driving test? Black belt test?

So “She left us” tells me that she walked out of the door, and probably found a better job in another company.

    Why can’t people say “died”?

A friend of mine tells a story, which I have assumed is true.

She took a summer job between semesters at college. It was minimum wage but it gave her ample time to relax and indulge in her favorite pastime, reading.

She only had to answer phone calls and write down messages as her employer thought this a more “personal” touch than an answering machine. He was on an extended business visit to the UK.

One caller asked to speak to “Mr. X” and she answered, “I’m sorry, but he’s gone to the United Kingdom.” The caller expressed alarm and said “I didn’t even know he was sick!”

Lots of old biddies there roll around on L’il Rascal scooters and in wheel chairs assisting their living zooming around the places. They’re called The Rolling Crones. Dearest Ann❤️Eiffel and the ❤️Eiffelettes only go to Las Vegas Stalking the Wild Shoog Daddies during the private, invitation only high stakes Baccarat Punto Banco and Chemin de Fer Tournaments. Nice misdirection by G&K, I was expecting Luann to discover that Mrs Horner had moved out of the retirement village and is living somewhere else; perhaps the next door neighbor to Tara and Walt or being that the Luannverse is pretty whacked out, if she has an adjunct gig at Mooney as well, being the world’s oldest RA on Hall A, taking Bern’s old job….. OTOH, nah, that last option is too far fetched, but I did think she had moved out on her own and became more independent again, not more “dependent”. Didn’t she used to live near Bern and Luann? Maybe she still owns the house and then could return home with the help of someone like Luann or perhaps Bernice (hint hint) providing some light assistance in return for room and board as well as a small stipend.

Okay, perhaps Luann realizes that she may have found her calling working in the geriatric field as she took care of Mrs H really well during the episode she had in writing class. Maybe Luann would make a great nurse, caring and compassionate as opposed to dealing with kids though a pediatric nurse could be a possibility as well.

This is addressed to everyone criticizing the receptionist’s communication skills.

First, let’s consider how long their conversation really lasted — it may have been two days, our time, but in terms of the strip, it has only been a few seconds. So, any misunderstanding on Luann’s part was very fleeting, and was almost instantaneously cleared up.

Second, Greg and Karen’s “misdirection plays” have become somewhat “legendary”. I don’t think that any receptionist in the real world would talk that way, this is just Greg and Karen at work and nothing more than that. So, lighten up!

With Mrs Horner in a assisted care, Luann might be impressed by nurses and doctors’ work and thinking about the possibility of studying medicine under a new light. Not to mention that the dear teacher probably told them about her good student who helped her when she fainted, or they saw the interview. I hope Luann can visit and talk to her. Her mentor’s advice has always been precious for her.
