“Would you like to scratch our eyes out and gut us with a rusty spoon?” “ I most certainly would!” It’s not like cats are difficult to read. Her body language alone tells them she’s frightened and unhappy.

Red eyes on that woman! I’d be as scared as Sophie if I saw that!

FERAL YODELING!!!

Poor Sophie. She desperately needs rescuing. They haven’t even taken her to the vet to see if she’s healthy, not to mention vaccinations.

The thing I like as while these people do need to be taught a lesson.. they don’t seem evil. Just old and igorant.. which can often be the same thing but in this case no, they genuinely care about her, their just oblivious to the fact that no , a cat you find randomly is not free get them to a vet and cats DEFINTELY don’t like being kept in a box. My dad kept his cats (RIP Spicy and Bob), in one room a lot of the time to cut down on shedding and they barely tolerated that.

Seems like she really wants to love a cat, but doesn’t know how. Bet she never had kids, either, only dress-up dolls.

Sophie, if she is that close to the side of the kennel, I suggest you show her exactly how you feel. But, lunge at her and use your back feet (which I assume still have claws??) (Or do they declaw all four feet in the “usual” inhumane declawing technique).

Time for the rescue team.

Well, she seems to be trying to properly care for Sophie. I’m hoping that she just doesn’t understand.

Good for Sophie she is standing up to her abductors and not just cowering. She’s come a long way and will definitely be able to help her rescuers.

She’s not the sharpest tack on the bulletin board … She ain’t the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree … And is about as quick on the uptake as a turtle swimming in molasses …

Cats do actually like small spaces if it makes them feel safe (why Sophie likes to hide under furniture). But a cage open on all sides isn’t going to do that. That the people didn’t take her to vet at the first opportunity (is it just the morning after in BCN time?) implies to me they’re being wilfully stupid and heartless.

No food! No water! No litter box! No one who has reached that age could possibly blame this treatment on ignorance. This is willful abuse. All living things need food, water, and a place to eliminate. And I don’t care how much time has elapsed, water is available.

She needs to see the night sky so there’s a star for her to wish upon.

UGH. I can hear the cloying, syrupy tones in that Woman’s voice. It brings out my worst impulses, like this sudden urge for some karmic schadenfreude. I hope the Great Trash Panda in the Sky gives Gutter enough C4 to blow up half the house.

Dangnabbits. That creepy alien is torturing hapless cat. Just looks at those strange eyes of the alien. Looking at cat and drooling as if watching lobster in cage before the cooking is begins.

Poor Sophie, she is miserable and terrified, and her abductors are well intentioned (for their own interests at least) but completely clueless… Rescue cannot come a moment too soon.

You know, I’d mentioned a couple weeks ago about the doggo who pops up every couple weeks on one of our local missing sites on FB who has now been missing since 2022…it just breaks my heart every time I see that post. But THIS right here is exactly what I think happened to that doggo and I think it happens a lot to missing dogs and cats on that site. That people find a pet and they can ‘catch’ it because it’s people acclimated so doesn’t really run and rather than post that they’ve found a lost pet or take it to a vet to see if someone has chipped it, they keep it. No thought to someone looking for it and that someone’s broken heart, they just keep it. They think the pet needs a home or they think they need a pet or the pet left home for whatever reason, who knows? So there’s a broken heart trying to find their pet and someone who could care less, they have a cute new pet, so there.

You would think the “low feral yodeling” would be a sufficient hint that poor Sophie is NOT HAPPY!!!. Maybe she should kick up the volume and keep it up all night.

According to T S Elliott, a cat has 3 different names. None of Sophie’s names is Priscilla.

Looking at today’s strip, I realize that the reason I am so infuriated by Sophie’s captors is that I want kindhearted people to be more observant of physical cues and less clueless about how to care for a cat. I feel like I could like this woman if someone would just straighten her out.

Oh she’s gone

I mean, she’s right about one thing. Sophie is pretty. Even a stopped clock and all that…

She is definitely clueless about taking care of a cat or reading the signs if they are happy or not. I am a little afraid if the animals rescue Sophie, which I think is what is going to happen, that the lady will not learn any lessons and might just pick up the next cat she sees outside. Though I did have one thought maybe she will go looking for Sophie when she is freed and go to the Quinn shelter to see if Sophie is there and find out that she already had a home and maybe be given some education by the people at the shelter on how to care for a cat and the proper thing to do when you see a cat outside.

Lady is a jerk.

I will take great joy in Sophie’s rescue and return to her proper home where she will be happy and loved. I will be a little sad to see the dismay of her abductors when they realize she is gone, even though they are very much responsible for the completely needless distress of Sophie and all her friends and people. While they’ve done everything wrong, I am sure they are not bad people. Maybe there will be a teachable moment where they learn how to adopt a pet the proper way, and how to properly provide for a pet’s needs and emotional well-being.

OT: Progress, Lyme, my back, J, & stuff…

I’m starting to have a feeling about this. Perhaps it’s the way she talks to the cat. And the resignedly obedient actions of the man on the night they picked Sophie up. Maybe? this old woman is not simply old and ignorant, but reverting toward childhood? That would make the whole situation even sadder.

The people knew Sophie was missing the next morning and put up posters. At the very earliest this is the evening after she fell out of the window. Probably no later than one day later. It could take a day or so to see a vet, especially if it were a weekend.

Ora Zella’s subdued, worried little face…I just want to snorgle her & tell her everything’s going to be OK…

They didn’t even try to find her family.

Maybe the Mailman will see her when he brings the mail and let the catnappers know that Sophie belongs to another family that is looking for her. I’m sure he saw a poster about her on his route.She really can’t be rescued too soon. She needs water, food, and a litter box.

The BCN Swat team will get Sophie out!

I say…this woman is so creepy, it made me scared for Sophie.

G.D. is doing an excellent job of building tension. It’s almost like watching a suspense movie.

Okay, utterly clueless. Caring? They don’t care enough to step outside their own perceptions. Most of my relatives have been like that. Is it any surprise that given a choice between most people and ANY cat, I’ll take the cat. (Orbsters not included. You are all true human, humane, people, willing to look outside your perceptions.)

Maybe Madame Clueless has a young grandchild who could tell her what Sophie is REALLY saying!

How is Sophie going to get back home to the woman?

Maybe the government should hire these cats as spies… They probably work better than the ones from years ago. Check the story out!!!

After she goes to the vets and gets all of her shots, when they take her to the Cat Show, that is where she will escape and it will be a long path back home. Like when cats and dogs are separated from their owners and will walk hundreds of miles to find their way back home. Or maybe she bites the vet and runs out of the office.

Just read a story about a man and his dog reunited after two years thanks to an id chip. Dog disappeared after playing on the man’s large property with his brother dog. Lots of searching, posters etc, but the man never gave up hope. Two years later and about 1000 miles away the dog was picked up as a stray and the chip was scanned. Happy phone call later, the man drove the distance starting that very night. The article included a vid of the joyous reunion. Best guess is someone like this clueless lady picked the poor dog up as a stray but never had him scanned and then…..no one knows…..but at least there was a happy ending.

Sounds like an ominous portend… “When the moon turns green and cats yodel, then the ancient, ungainly, and easily offended spirits of appliances long past will walk the Earth!”

Options for getting Sophie home:

1) A successful jailbreak, featuring Gutter and the Robber Mice 2) Burt live streams the footage from Sophie’s catnappers on Sophie’s Woman’s device 3) Sophie’s chip is scanned at a vet appointment (you can’t always get in right away) 4) A series of coincidences lead to some People who know Sophie spotting her and bringing her home 5) The catnappers spot the Missing Cat posters and bring her home themselves

In any case, Georgia will be bringing Sophie home (it can’t come soon enough for me). These are clearly well-intentioned but clueless people, so I think her catnappers will be educated on proper cat adoption and care and become a good home for a lovely feline at the Quinn Animal Shelter.

If this woman has never “owned” a calico before, she is about to get schooled.

They (or at least, she) likes her because she’s pretty … like an item of home decor. No clue about Sophie as a living, thinking, sentient being. It’s also not that hard to read cats … lots of info about it (ear position, eyes, posture, vocal expressions, etc.), so the kidnapper clearly has no idea. And the likelihood of a pretty cat in well cared for condition in a residential area (not to mention wearing a very fashionable outfit) having no home is laughable.

Her name is SOPHIE! ARRRRGHHHHH
