Didn’t I say—one thing is for sure: You want to be nice to your waiters and your roommates? Three strikes and YERR OUT! . Now where does this go Wednesday?
While going outonakimb yesterday I failed to watch the beavers gnawig at the base of the tree. Boy! Did I crash and burn. So not about work for Luann (pity) and it looks like the Karen in the teal top may be the 4th roomie. The interesting thing here is that Stef the cheerleader is a Tiffany clone and this baby Karen is also a Tiffany clone. Are we going to have a clone war? Also a pity because I still think Bernice would make a better 4th roomie especially if she becomes the RA again. Planning those “epic parties”™ is going to be a lot harder when the RA is across the room.
So the baby Karens aren’t getting off scott-free. These Karens really pushed their luck, and while I love Nancy for her response, I can’t help but worry what these Karens will do. Make a scene? Like a total Karen absolutely would. Maybe if they apologize for their rude comments, Nancy won’t kick the Karens out. But Karens are so unpredictable, you never know whether a Karen is going to run with their tail between their legs or whether a Karen is going to snap and cause a ruckus. Karens can be just absolute hassles sometimes.
That escalated quickly for early in the week! Where can it go from here?
While we’re all cheering for Nancy, for all of those times when we had to bite our tongues in the presence of rudeness in the real world, the fact remains that you can’t just toss out everyone who offends you. Tiffany had to put up with Ann treating her just as badly, after all. How can Tiffany be more mature than Nancy?
I suspect that losing business will become the real topic of this week’s arc.
Heck yes. WTG Nancy. Now of course the young ladies will probably try to retaliate through negative comments on social media just like typical morons/trolls/mean people (of any age) typically do. I suspect this because it is way too early for a plot resolution. This has to go somewhere, maybe the bratty girl will drop the: “Do you know who my dad is????” line or something like that…..
Have you noticed the recent responses to passengers on planes who fight with the flight attendants? Any business has the right to eject those who mistreat employees. It has nothing to do with how ‘mature’ the employees are, or putting up with bad behavior (and how is a flight attendant supposed to ignore someone punching them?) Tiffany’s situation was totally different from that of a business; she was putting up with someone who her father apparently loved, and who was going to end up as her stepmother. Apples and oranges…
I didn’t think that the rudeness of the two young Gen Z women was going to be the focus, rather a plot device, but now, given her focused action—inviting the little buggers out—I must admit I am probably wrong. Hey I have a crazy thought: they represent the social media age; maybe they will post a social media based attack on the Fuse, and guess who comes to the rescue, having a lot of experience in social media? Hmmm?
GO NANCY! Give them a lesson they will remember for a lifetime! One can’t help, but admire Nancy’s firm and resolute behavior ♡. Let’s just hope that the two girls don’t feel any kind of revenge but only ask for forgiveness. But I kinda would like to see them in future.
I want to apologize to @outonalimb for playing around with his handle. It was meant in good fun. It is a fun handle to play around with but i’’m over it and won;t do it again.
I always remember the sign posted: WE RESERVE TO RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVICE TO ANYONE … So, remember kids, always practice good manors, and, remember to tip at least 15%. ;)
Wait, this comic strip is allowed to have swearing in it? Or did I miss something and “asses” isn’t really a swear anymore? I’m not complaining, more swearing = awesome, but I just never expected this.
What about sex? Is it allowed to have PG-13 depictions of sexual relationships? Cuz that opens a lot of storytelling possibilities for the characters.
Lastly, depending on how things go with Brad and Toni, “granny” might become an accurate description.
This is probably a set up for a “do you know who my father is??” routine …. And it might actually be some wealthy jackass who comes around and tries to have the café shut down or something…
Go Nancy …. i was probably 50 the first time i was called gramps , i did not get it , But maybe the Girls will get the point i can only hope . Oh OX can you give Nancy a hand Please .
So, funny story… My grandfather, who was born in 1912, was 17 years old when the crash of 29 hit. They lost the farm, and had to move to the city to find work. My grandpa found work as a server/busboy in a restaurant. Every day, there was a group of four women… wealthy women… Who would come in to the restaurant for lunch. One of these women was particularly nasty to everyone… And every day, she would order a piece of blueberry pie. However, she would not eat it. She would always smoke a cigarette, then extinguish the cigarette by pushing it into the top of the pie. I suppose this was her way of saying “ I am rich, so I can do what I want and there’s nothing anyone can do about it!“ So here you’ve got people starving all over the country, and yet this woman every day would waste pie like this. And it really upset the restaurant owner. I knew that the other women didn’t like this either. Well, one day, they all ordered pie… and my grandfather, who was bringing out the pie (he had four pieces on plates going all up his arm), “accidentally” had one slip off and onto the front of the nasty woman’s dress and into her lap. She was wearing a white dress, which was now smeared with blueberry everywhere. Of course she complained, but the restaurant owner didn’t do anything. After that, she never showed up again… Her three friends still did though… But they were just fine. He could tell that they were all happy to be rid of her!
My six-year-old niece loves reading these comics on the newspaper since it’s the only section that is fun to read. But man……..she saw this today on the paper and pointed to her dad and grandmother that she saw a cuss word on here and they couldn’t believe what Nancy said……..Now they’re not even comfortable letting her read the comics on the paper anymore because they’re the kind of people who doesn’t allow their children to see or hear ANY cuss word. Not even the word jack ass.
You go, Nancy. The thing is people like this will always find something to say about other staff and customers. They make things unpleasant for everyone else.
What a colossal discussion, above, about this personality type being called “Karens”.I think I speak for many when I say it doesn’t matter ONE HOOT what they’re labeled…but it’s inarguable that people who treat others like this DO NOT DESERVE TO BREATHE OUR AIR!!!
Hmmm, Tuesday and people are declaring victory…. I like what Nancy’s done but have a sneaking suspicion that we’re not done yet…. curious on the twist that’s coming.
I may be the only one with this impression but nothing in today’s (or yesterday’s) strip rings true to me. I know customers can be rude and I know that occasionally owners have to throw people out but I simply don’t believe the two women would have had this conversation at all (certainly not calling Nancy “granny” – what is she, late 40’s or a really good looking early 50’s tops? – or “oldster” which I’ve never heard anybody of any age use) and that it would rise to the level that Nancy would toss them out. This really feels like an artificial set up to make readers cheer on the older character against those rude young folks but I simply don’t believe it ever would have happened, not in this way or this set up in any case.
This is an odd turn of events so early in the week. Where do we go from here? Do the rude girls become belligerent and continue to harass? Does someone else become involved (Ox? Les? TJ?) Is one or both of these “rudies” being set up as a recurring character?
In the real world, Nancy’s quick trigger would be considered inappropriate. She could have maybe won those girls over with great customer service. If they continued to be rude she could have had some real fun with them by pretending to be deaf, or hobbling their order to the table with excruciating slowness or best yet coming back to the table multiple times to verify their order. She would have accomplished the goal of them never coming back without the confrontation. There could have even been that golden moment when they asked to speak to a manager. Opportunity missed, oh well.
Don’t care about “Karen”. Worked retail for years. Employees do not have to take this crap. And people seem to think they are entitled to be mean. To those I say— stay home.
I loved you pay the way Nancy handled an uncomfortable situation. There is no need to be mean and rude. Eventually you pay the price for your arrogance. I love also how the Luann comics give us every day circumstances that we can think about. Please keep the great comic strips coming Greg and Karen!
This is so unbelievable. My 2 millennium daughters would never treat anyone like this. I find it hard to believe anyone would be dumb enough to treat your food server so poorly.
Yea to Nancy! Too many rude customers act that way because the person they’re picking on is perceived as no threat to them, i.e. the minimum wage employee who has to put up with anything in order to keep their job. A great reminder to such jerks that they should be careful about who they’re abusing.
Its Great to see an individual with authority actually stand up for themselves and ultimately their staff. If they treat her this way, they will treat every server there the same way….The customer isn’t always right. Losing two customers for the sake of the people who work for you is worth it..
Calling it. This conflict resolved early, so the rest of the arc is either gonna be about Nancy dealing with a bad review against the restaurant or a weird misuse/criticism of the term “karen”.
Since Nancy is probably in her 40s, she is NOT old enough to be stereotyped the way that people my age are, by being called ‘boomers’. Of course, all boomers are totally and completely identical. We ALL protested the war in Vietnam for example — except for those of us who went to fight it, or who objected on religious grounds and got classified as ‘conscientious objectors’ and actually went to Vietnam without weapons to drive ambulances, or who were the sole support of their families so they were excused from service. But yeah, exactly identical simply because they were born during a certain period. Just like those in the so-called ME generation are all identical, and those called ‘Millennials’ are all identical.
Thanks for displaying your your own wonderful lack of bias. There’s a term for people who display bias, you know. Too bad there’s no saying like “Okay, bigot”….
Wow! This is the first time in several arcs that I’m actually interested in seeing what happens tomorrow! So many of the recent arcs have been real stinkers.
I can see why Nancy likes to wait tables now and then (besides tending bar). She gets the pleasure of kicking out rude abusive customers who treat staff poorly. Also, I’m wondering if one of these girls might be the 4th roommate in quad.
II wasn’t expecting this on a TUESDAY! I was expecting Nancy to put up with it for a little bit longer. I’m VERY glad I was wrong. Show the little brats the door, girl :D
Notice that those two are no longer smiling. After they overturn their drinks, will they show up at the university or the community college? I am sure we will see them in a future arc.
Looks to me like Nancy has lost her enthusiasm for the Fuse job and that’s good! It’s just in time for Bernice to move back to the dorm so they can rent that room out again. She could always go bartend a few nights a week if she wanted to, but she wouldn’t have to be waiting tables while Tiffany is hanging out in the kitchen talking to TJ. A new renter and a new waitress would fix this problem in a heartbeat!

I wonder if the woman on the right is related to Bets. She said her family is messed up or has issues, some kind of dysfunction.

And these two brain-damaged bimbos have the nerve to look surprised.

I like it! Is this the end of it, or will the ignoramuses try to give Nancy a hard time?
GollyGosh about 3 years ago
Calling it. This conflict resolved early, so the rest of the arc is either gonna be about Nancy dealing with a bad review against the restaurant or a weird misuse/criticism of the term “karen”.

Way to Go Nancy!! My house – my rules! I reserve the right to bar azzholes.

(Read in Tony Stark voice) — "Is no one going to comment that Nancy just said “asses”?

A better idea would have been to walk out with the purse and hand it to her when she left.

@Crann Bethadh:

Let’s knock off the Karen thing . Call her what she is: name that rhymes with Glass bowl.
BTW, honey, never tick off someone who’s making your food and beverage in a room where you can’t see.

man, if they act like this to her face what do you think they do behind people’s backs?
tutibug5 about 3 years ago
Let me get you two girls a couple of to GO cups for your drinks.
Leilani96814 about 3 years ago
Holy crap. The “granny” crack behind Nancy’s back was bad enough but to say it directly to her face? they deserved to be kicked out.

Go Nancy!

Wow! This is the first time in several arcs that I’m actually interested in seeing what happens tomorrow! So many of the recent arcs have been real stinkers.

Nancy? Don’t break a heel while you give her the boot. She ain’t worth it!

Way to go Nancy! Oh, girls, don’t let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya!

What about the name Karin? Or Caren?
RSH about 3 years ago
I can see why Nancy likes to wait tables now and then (besides tending bar). She gets the pleasure of kicking out rude abusive customers who treat staff poorly. Also, I’m wondering if one of these girls might be the 4th roommate in quad.

And, there she was, congratulating herself for being so “Witty”.
So young to discover that she is only Half Right.

II wasn’t expecting this on a TUESDAY! I was expecting Nancy to put up with it for a little bit longer. I’m VERY glad I was wrong. Show the little brats the door, girl :D
Willow Mt Lyon about 3 years ago
Notice that those two are no longer smiling. After they overturn their drinks, will they show up at the university or the community college? I am sure we will see them in a future arc.

For The Rolling Stones, the beat has stopped going on.
Charlie Watts, their long-time drummer, has passed away at the age of 80.

Nancy should point out “This granny has a better body than either of you two Mini-Karens, so stick it”

Yeah, Nancy! Way to go!!

It’s way too early in this arc. These Karens are going to make something of it.

Blue Berry about 3 years ago

Don’t get mad. Just get them gone. Slavery is over. You don’t and shouldn’t put up with insults.
(And with fewer customers, you can get more rest.)
