I think Bets is going to storm off tomorrow, leaving Gunther (and his french fries) to hitchhike home by himself. So no “angry” Gunther to rile fans up and more wrong-doing by Bets to keep her haters happy.
Gunther conoce a Tiffany desde hace muchos años, y a Bets desde hace dos, y a través de un sitio de citas, por lo que es obvio quien gana. Estoy seguro que a pesar de ser su novia, Gunther apenas está conociendo a la real Bets.
Poor Gunther. He can’t win no matter what. He is staying pretty cool. It is definitely no longer a romantic night. Bets likes to pick fights, and she is doing a good job of it tonight. Gunther, eat your fries, wash them down with the soda, call Uber, and go home.
Looks like Gunther decided… He did want Tiffs Romantic dinner after all! Time to say goodbye to Bets and move on to someone who cares about you, Gunther!
Oh dear. This is the point where Bets loses my sympathy. That’s a classic manipulative move that shows she’s not interested in what’s right, only who wins, while trying to make Gunther feel guilty for having an opinion different from hers. I so very much wanted her to be better than that!
Also, Gunther, after you sleep on it, go see Tiffany tomorrow and apologize. After all, make new friends but keep the old. One is silver, and the other is gold.
Yup. Gunther got it. Bets doesn’t care about the whole thing being TIFFANY’s assignment and not hers and dismissive of his suggestion that she should’ve done it the way Tiffany wanted – because it was her assignment. Gunther is now seeing and possibly having flashbacks of her past dismissiveness. He is probably mentally OMGing and asking how blind and oblivious he has been. Gunther, dump her NOW. Just walk out and go back to the McMansion and join Tiffany and Ox. Give them the good news that Bets is gone.
Okay, Now Bets is starting to lose my support. There is nothing more off-putting (in my opinion) than the paranoid “You’re just like everyone, turning against me”.
The response from Bets about how Tiffany is Gunther’s ‘old friend’ and she herself is Gunther’s ‘girlfriend’, so she (Bets) automatically loses is part of what is wrong with Bets’ way of thinking. She sees too many things as a competition when they aren’t. Gunther (who is, after all, very school-oriented) saw Tiffany trying to succeed at a school assignment (and both he and Bets have tried to help Tiffany with school). So, to Gunther, the point of the whole thing was to help Tiffany finish her project, which Tiffany had defined as ‘a romantic dinner’. Bets had jumped at the idea of using the setting of the dinner as something to entertain her followers, but it began as a school assignment. Gunther kept trying to keep that in mind, but Bets, instead, began to see it as a competition of her idea versus Tiffany’s idea. Gunther is right: no one wins here…
Gunther, if that’s how Bet’s acts when she’s “just a girlfriend” look ahead to the future when Bet’s tell you. “Oh, I’m just your wife”; the future ain’t pretty.
Gunther nails it again. It was Tiffany’s idea/project and Bets hijacked it for an elaborate pirate thing for her Instagram followers. Now rather Bets consider she was wrong, she’s playing the girlfriend card. Also, there were no guarantees that Bets would have tagged/promoted Tiffany in any posts.
I originally liked Bets, but jeez, I’ll take Shannon any day as a recurring charachter at this point. At least Shannon acts her age.

Over an hour and a half of comments and nobody has yet recognized the keyword for tomorrow’s strip.
Bets used the word “Mushy.”
Gunther sweeps the fries to the floor as he pulls Bets across the tabletop, plants a full deep (Described in Bull Durham) kiss on Bets and loudly proclaims:
I LIKE MUSHY!!!
He then walks out the door, accompanied by customer clapping.
All this chat leaves me wondering: when is Tiffany going to return to her lithe figure? She got plump due to Ann. At Tiffany’s age the excess weight should simply melt away now that Ann is gone.

This is kind of building up to an ultimatum by Bets to Gunnie: "Your “old” friends like Tiff or your "current " girlfriend"….. Most are guessing Gunnie will respond by saying something like: “I have been thinking and …” followed by “Adios”, “Sayonara”, “Au Revoir”, “See ya later Alligator” etc…. I hope this does not happen but it could and then we would have Gun and Bets on the rebound. Some people think Gun and Tiff would make an interesting pair. I agree, Tiff likes Gunnie when he goes for the “Don Johnson weekend to one week shadow” look and Gunnie could see Tiff a more than just a friend if she makes the first move. However, the issues Gunnie has with Bets are the same as he would have with Tiff, the possibility of not getting a word in edgewise and likely being taken advantage of though. But there is hope for our man Gunnie! To quote Kelly Clarkson “What ever doesn’t kill you will make you stronger”. Gunnie will survive the breakup if it occurs and be better prepared for the same situation in the future. Note I said “if”, still not a guarantee they have a Quill/Luann break up scene on the horizon as G&K could go in another direction despite where this looks like this is leading up to: the final fight and break up…
WOW! Gunther is trying to reson with an angry wild beast. His probably to success are around 0,01%. Bets is insecure and jealous of Gunther’s relationship with his old friends and now he’s saying Tiffany was right. But he’s finally trying! GO GUNTHER!!! Continue to talk with her!
Don’t back down now, Gunther. Get it all out in the open.
Tell Bets that he thought the whole point of the evening was to spend time together, but that obviously wasn’t true as far as Bets was concerned. And Bets seems all too ready to tell Gunther to choose between her and Tiffany.
i hope tomorrow we see Gunther get up, tell Bets it’s over, and leave. With his fries.
So the romantic…I’m doing for him wasn’t even Bets idea to start with? But he may be able to bear her lack of romance bit at least for a season. But be careful though. Her temper tantrums can be a nightmare to deal with in the long haul. There are kinder fish in the sea out there for Gunther which would be more than willing to be caught in his net.
Do you suppose Gunther will ever find a girlfriend worthy of him? I used to think he’d be perfect for Luann, but I doubt that will happen as they are too much in the “friend zone.”
Center Panel…. (could have been)“Yeah, So”“So, when you talk with her did you take anything into consideration as to what her assignment needed to have since she was doing it for school?”Then in 3rd, the response would be…“All I am doing is asking a question. I wasn’t there. You’re smart, just answer the question yourself. I don’t have to know the answer.”
yeah, Bets has ben lost to the dark side… she’s completely lost sight that her boyfriend willingly gave up what he knew he needed to do (study) to work on a project (costumes) for her scheme (Pirate date night) which she did not properly plan or communicate through. She just pretty much just told Gunther that she ignored what Tiff said she was doing and how she was doing it, then proceeded to attempt to make him feel guilty for not joining her in her anger at his childhood friends for … checks notes dropping everything and doing things her way.
And again, I’ve seen no indication that money actually changed hands.
Bets has issues. At this point I’m seeing red flags from my own childhood, and if I were of college age and looking at serious long term commitment I’d be question getting any more serious without some major work on those issues. She’s starting to cross into emotional abuse territory. (i.e. Gunther’s not wrong about what he just asked and it’s not his (nor his friend’s fault) and that their romantic dinner only failed because of Bet’s temper and inability to consider what others are saying.)
That said, she probably has a great career ahead of her as a politician.
Yes, it was Tiffany’s school project for her business course, but Bets also was a paying customer. She offered to pay Tiffany $200 and did specify a pirate theme. If it was free, Bets couldn’t complain. Tiffany is learning to run a business where the owner needs to be upfront if they can’t meet customer requests. So paying customers get their way if we agree to take their special requests. Otherwise, deliver the experience advertised without special requests.
However, Bets is being very self-focused and not considering Gunth. She’s very dramatic and ‘poor me’ when she doesn’t get her way. Reminds me in many ways of how Tiffany used to be. Gunth needs to figure out what he wants and be really clear to Bets on where he stands. Going to be hard when he’s often so mellow — but we know he’s not mellow! Bets needs to learn to listen, and Gunther needs to learn to speak up. He definitely has started with that last panel. Gunther keep it up!
Gunther has a point. It was Tiff’s school project and her idea. Bets tried to commandeer it and made Gunther do all the grunt work on the costumes. Costumes he had no time to make and didn’t want to do in the first place.
I have to say, I am proud of Gunther. He is being cool, level-headed and having a much needed conversation with Bets. The only problem, Gun is using logic while Bets is fueled with emotion. I do hope Bets can be reasoned with in the end.
So it looks like Bets is out. Tara has one foot in Utah. Nil hasn’t been seen since he and Tara failed to respect Luann’s authoritah. Pru is long gone. Zebo and the Mooney Hall A gang are victims of COVID.
Meanwhile, Bernice is back on the main stage, and Nancy and even Frank have been featured lately.
It starts to feel like GnK are consolidating and going back to the original central cast.
Dog has said several times that Gunther became expendable to Greg before Peru, but for someone who was expendable, he sure has been visible over the last couple of years, and we now know that Luann cares about his love life. Jack has been set up to pair off with Bernice instead of Luann. I think maybe Gunther has worked his way out of Greg-purgatory and that we’re back to Gunther & Luann being the end-game of the strip, hopefully years from now.
Ok, I fully admit I completely forgot this was a school assignment thing. I still stand by what I said before about a business relationship with your client, but my bad entirely for forgetting that this was also for Tiff’s school. So, yeah, Bets is entirely in the wrong this time.
Bets has had an issue with Gunther’s concern for his friends for quite some time. That was probably my first warning bell about her a long time ago. Not for the first time I wonder whether Bets has any real friends outside of Gunther (I’m not counting Tiffany).
April 13th 2019. Bet’s “Look, I like you Gunther, and I want to go to Trekconnek. But either you’re 100% with me or your not. ALL OR NOTHING.” He(WE) were warned.*
Bets first appeared on April fools day 2019. Will this April be the finish for Bets and Gunther’s relationship. Actually, I think not. At least, not yet!
Maybe this is off-topic, but has Bets’ ethnicity ever been revealed? Just curious: I’m leaning toward Native American, but not sure why. Does anyone know?
Well this is interesting. They are having Bets morph from the smart, affectionate, level headed young woman who, admittedly is obsessed with social media (what young person isn’t these days) to a viscous, power hungry, maniacal control freak. She obviously has no real affection for Gunther and has forgotten his role in all this. He was the person who was supposed to be shown a nice romantic dinner by his girlfriend. Instead he gets to witness her preferred activity which is Cat Fight. She can always explain on her web page that Gun chose his old friends over her. That will get her some sympathy from strangers. It’s the perfect rationalization she can use to break up with him.
The girl clearly has confidence issues. Not sure he can salvage the situation. But he sure is trying. It’s really hard to give up sex. But there are other things you simply can’t give up – even for sex – like your self-respect. One more day to “pull it out”, Gun…
Gunther hasn’t learned to sit there and just say “Yes Dear” like the obedient BF that Bets expects him to be. He showed such promise being subservient and following orders. He shelved studying, made costumes, etc and now this!
There was an earlier comment from Live2Read about how this disagreement between Bets and Gunther is just like what happened between Luann and Quill. I tried to respond, but wasn’t sure my comment was saved. I don’t agree with Live2Read on this. Luann was concerned about Quill being unable or unwilling to make time in his life for a relationship. Work/career would always be first for Quill. In this case, Bets is concerned because she believes that Gunther’s first loyalty would always be to his ‘old friends’ , rather than her as his girlfriend, and Bets also seems to see everything as a competition that has to be won. Very different, IMO…
Gunther’s right here, he’s just not very persuasive about it. Bets leaves herself open to comebacks that could show her the error of her ways without causing her to become too defensive (and therefore bring everything to a good resolution), but Gunther isn’t exploiting these openings.
Which is, of course, completely true to real life. People are not known for using the best option.
It is just sad and discouraging that Greg has continued to have Bets become less pleasant this arc. I have really liked Bets as a character and Bets and Gunther together as a couple.
But…. one thing to keep in mind…. and it is easy to sometimes forget about this…. is that all of this rancor is being experienced over the span of perhaps at most 2-3 hours. And with that time frame in mind…. I sure as hell can say that I know people (including myself) who have been rather angry and upset for that amount of time…. and then later realized they (and I have too) are looking at things in the wrong way. This kind of realization is what I am hoping to have occur in Bets regarding this matter. Maybe Bets will grow from this and become less competitive, less focused on only her game plans.
I am actually very happy (and just a tad surprised) that Gunther has been keeping so calm and collected about this whole mess. Like many, I was a bit worried he might join the argument and get his own grouchy face on. As of this point…. and especially with his analysis today…. I think Gunther is doing awfully damn well here!!!
So…. I am still hoping and thinking that Bets will eventually chill out and realize the errors of her ways. I suspect Tiffany will get over her frustrations quickly enough (and I still think Tiffany was fine in what she did…. she did not accept money…. she SAID she didn’t “do” pirates to Bets before the event, and she worked hard for her class assignment. And, I hope/suspect even with this bump in the road…. Bets and Gunther can still be a good couple together.
Alright, even before looking at the other comments, I think we’re all agreed. Dump her or fix her, but this cannot continue. If Bets at least has some kind of epiphany about her behaviour, or if this leads to Tiff becoming a better person somehow, then this won’t have been a completely wasted relationship.
Several commenters have been anticipating—in some cases eagerly anticipating—a break-up. I, to the contrary, think we’re heading for a reconciliation, and I look forward to seeing Bets and Gunther at TTFT, Take Two. Perhaps it will happen next week, or perhaps only after we take some time to check up on Brad and Toni and/or Luann, Bernice, and Tara, and to let Dez’s next harvest come in.
I can picture them now: Bets resplendent in an ever-so-elegant evening gown, Gunther in white tie and tails. This time, perhaps Bets will appreciate all the effort and expense Tiff has put in …
Hmmm, I think we’ve heard this song before. The green eyed monster rises once again. On one hand Bets seems domineering, but on the other hand she also seems insecure in this relationship. As soon as Gunther gives the slightest hint of supporting any of his friends, she questions his loyalty to her. Kind of an “all or nothing” person? Gunther seems weary of being between the rock and the hard place….again. What will it take to either end this cycle or correct it? Hmmmm :-)
I still hope Gunth will say something that will penetrate Bets’ one sided ‘all me or nothing’ attitude. I don’t think he will get up and walk out on her but she might do that to him. Sadly, Bets probably doesn’t have any real friends to turn to should she leave; she has a big following on social media but those aren’t real friends. What good are a bunch of ‘likes’ on social media when you need someone to talk to?
Bets, my dear, you’re starting to get a little tiresome. Sometimes its best to just let things go. Pick your battles, etc. Of course, that usually takes years of life experience to learn (some never do). But good looks will only go so far -eventually, the ‘shine’ fades and resentment will set in.
this is how they get rid of going nowhere characters and or plot line. someone said betts and less , now that would be interesting for a while. have gunther try to sleep with those two getting busy in another room.
Note to Gunther: In 1972, a very wise man named Rick Nelson made the following observation: “You can’t please everyone, so you’ve got to please yourself”. Food for thought……
Whatever empathy Bets may once have had has become lost in her growing narcissism. A split between her and Gunther now seems unavoidable; it’s just a question of how soon and how dramatic….
In my 60-plus years of life, I have known people, both male and female, like Bets. (I almost married one.) I don’t know that Bets is exactly like them, but basically, I think she will not listen to reason, will not be comforted with reassurances from Gunther, and will not be happy at all unless Gunther is in complete agreement with her point of view. She will also punish him for having DARED not to agree with her first thing, even if they stay together. And maybe this is a little bit too much “real life”, but I really worry about them leaving in her car together or apart. She is so angry that she shouldn’t be driving. (Studies have shown that emotional driving is at least as dangerous as drunk driving). If Gunther is with her, he is in danger, too. I hope nothing happens regarding that (and people sometimes tell me to quit being a nurse and EMT, lol!). G&K are known for surprises, so I won’t hazard a guess as to what comes next. I do, however, hope that this arc comes to an end (or at least is temporarily dropped) tomorrow, as I am unusually weary of the whole thing. (Perhaps due to past experiences, who knows?)
Be good to your friends. Be good to your friends who are good to their friends. Be good to your friends who are good to their friends who are good to their friends who are good to their friends…. (But what all the friends in this infinitely recursive chain fail to be good to ALL their friends??))
Or just do the best you can and live with the results.
Boy does she sound like my former sister-in-law, who has Borderline Personality Disorder. If anyone’s in a relationship with someone like this, I highly recommend the book, “I Hate You Don’t Leave Me” to understand why they act like that and what you can do (and what doesn’t make any difference like it would with a normal person.)

From Merriam Webster:empathy noun

Kirsten Reitan Premium Member over 3 years ago
However, Bets is being very self-focused and not considering Gunth. She’s very dramatic and ‘poor me’ when she doesn’t get her way. Reminds me in many ways of how Tiffany used to be. Gunth needs to figure out what he wants and be really clear to Bets on where he stands. Going to be hard when he’s often so mellow — but we know he’s not mellow! Bets needs to learn to listen, and Gunther needs to learn to speak up. He definitely has started with that last panel. Gunther keep it up!

What good are a bunch of ‘likes’ on social media when you need someone to talk to?
brewingbiker over 3 years ago
Bets, my dear, you’re starting to get a little tiresome. Sometimes its best to just let things go. Pick your battles, etc. Of course, that usually takes years of life experience to learn (some never do). But good looks will only go so far -eventually, the ‘shine’ fades and resentment will set in.
