Eating someone else’s french fries without permission is a mortal sin. It seems seems like Gunther is about to make Bets walk the plank.

When someone is ranting, they get even more upset if you don’t rant with them.

Maybe his future girlfriend is working the counter?

Up to this point I was on Bet’s side. She did pay for something she didn’t receive so her anger was understandable. Now she seems to be blind to the fact she is acting like Tiffany just a bit.

Gunther’s building up to a confrontation. Turning point coming up for Bets, and not just in the romance. Let’s hope she takes it!

I think we always have known that about Tiff…that is her character. But that aside, maybe ol Gunner has finally had enough.

Is Gunther starting to see the light? Is he starting to see what Bets is like? Is this the beginning of the end? As I have said before, Gunther does have a temper, but it builds up like a sleeping volcano that has awaken, and then it explodes. Get ready for the explosion.

Evidently Bets self medicates with food (well so did Tiffany). Soon Gunther wont be sewing Princess Leha costumes, he’ll be sewing Jabba the Hut costumes.

Eating someone else’s fries without their permission is not ok, but don’t know if Bets and Gun have a previous deal about that. I do think it’s possible that Bets is stress eating and may not be aware that she ate all of Gun’s fries.

GnK have been slowly leading up to a specific definition of Bets’ personality, but now they have made it explicitly clear. With that being said, now where are they going to take this arc?

This is where Bets gets mad at Gunther for being so “selfish”…. if Gunth had any self-respect, he’d do a mic-dropping “you’re acting like a real piece of crap here”-type of scolding, then walk out of Weenie World..

Gun, you have some choices to make. Bets is a nice person but is she who you want to be with?

This arc is as much about indifference as “Ode to Billy Joe” is about indifference. Nobody cares how the other feels. They just go on eating.

This might be leading up to the moment where Gunnie puts his foot down. I noticed some posts say that Gunnie is a doormat. Well yes, in high school he definitely was, everyone took advantage of him and he also let Rosa make all their decisions as well until she basically told him to go back to the states. But I think our guy has changed since then, he does not allow Les to bully him anymore. He has also stood up for himself in the past with Luann (who spread rumors about Bets and him) and Bernice (when she was using him while she pursued that oddity known as Piro) and Gunnie also kind of stood up to Tiff when he helped her cover up the fact she was partying in the other wing of the dorm with Viper, Hair, the QB and cheerleader while Bernice was having the study-a-thon. However, this will be huge step if he just stops her mid-rant and gives her a piece of his mind. I suspect he did not want to leave Tiff’s house as he saw how much effort was put in by the “romantic dinner crew”. Was Tiff a bit unreasonable and a touch inconsiderate of Bets’ feelings? Absolutely, also keep in mind that Bets does not know Tiff as well as Gunnie and perhaps may have actually expected Pirates. I hope they iron things out but this is leading up to a climax on Saturday ala Luann throwing a pendant in Quill’s face. BTW: I still miss that guy, along with Pru and Delta, I wish G&K would bring one or all

And she’s not only still talking about Tiffany but now she’s taking food from Gunther. Is she talking her way into a breakup?

I feel like G&K are pushing Bets’s issues to the point of parody, particularly today. I’ve always believed her flaws before but I also thought she was more subtle than this.

Poor widdle Gunther. Being cranky is supposed to be his job.

He’s catching on. Maybe this isn’t the night he calls it quits, but it’s definitely the night the blinders come off. At least I hope.

I don’t think Gunther appreciates what Bets is saying about her childhood friend. Bets does not know their history and is naive to think she is merely a friend who went to the same school as Gunther. Gunther, beware of a girlfriend who tries to separate you from your friends. First Luann and now Tiff by blaming the whole thing on her. I hope tomorrow I will see Gunther push back and ask “Like you ignored that I needed to focus on my studies and insisted that I sew these stupid costumes? That’s what you did with Tiff – ignored what she said? Insisted that she do the pirates decor? I am noticing that you have that tendency.”

While everyone is telling Gunther to give her a piece of his mind, I also see others just waiting to pounce on him for his „anger and mommy“ issues, as well.

She’s “pirating” gunthers food. She’s getting into character. Yet she claims Tiffany is being selfish yet she walked out because she didn’t get her way. Projection much, bets??

Bets figured out how to monitize her selfish ego issues. Tiff is a bit to direct & honest for that. Only real difference.

She is so upset she eats his fries without realizing it. That in itself is not huge, but it is a marker that Bets is not noticing what Gunther is trying to do, which is to get her to realize that just being together is for him romantic. I know most comments have this, in fact are rooting for this to be a breakup event, forgetting that Bets did plan this for her and Gunther, but she needs to see beyond Tiffany and focus on her and Gunther. I still don’t think a break up is in play here, but a wakeup might be. Gunther needs to not be as passive-agressuve here and just tell her how he feels given Tiffany, for all her faults is an old friend. Then it will shift to Bets to respond. I think she will surprise those here who are so hoping this is the end for this pushy, possessive, controlling female. I think that is not it at all however. Arc time might tell.

I’ve never done this. None of my female friends have done it. We’ve talked about the stereotype of the rude woman who eats others’ food. How gauche.

Gunther were is the me in this relationship?

Seems like Bets is projecting.

GnK seemingly have painted themselves into a corner with the Bets character. If Gunther doesn’t stand up for himself, he fails to develop as a person. If he does stand up and Bets leaves the strip, what is left for him? He’ll be another shmoe taking vector calculus and going to ComicCons by himself.

My best idea for a resolution to this situation is for Bets to finally calm down with only a minor confrontation from Gunther. He arranges for them to the diners of the next TTFT where they don’t pay, but they internet-cast their meal to their fanbase. A tidy win-win for everyone, and then things can get back to the main characters.

Bets has her own issues to deal with, but as a tertiary character I don’t see the authors investing a lot of time showing her doing that. Bets is already far ahead of Luann in terms of academics, business success, having her own fans, and being in a personal relationship. If she is going to embark on a quest to figure out her need for attention she might as well have her own strip.

The red flags keep on coming!

I’m quite sure Gunther has noticed… Now, may start the true discussion between them we all have waited for months! Tiffany is out because she has regained her positivity♡, Bets is still furious. She need to learn something by all this. At least the basic human decency of not eating someone else’s French fries without permission!

Gunther still seems to be in a passive mood. Instead of pointing out to Bets that she ate his food, he just got up to go get more. Presumably she’ll eat those, too, and he won’t say a thing about it, just look annoyed.

She probably spent the entire meal doing nothing but complaining about Tiffany. Maybe Gunther is finally realizing that this was never going to be about them, just Bets.

This could be the beginning of the end for Bets and Gunth…

Okay, judging by the level of ranting going on in the comment section, I think we all know who the real ‘projectors’ are. Showing this much vitriol? Is this what you wish you could do with your own ‘Bets’? I think everyone should thank GnK for giving everyone a character to vent their frustrations on. Seriously, if she was out of the picture, most of you wouldn’t know what to do with yourselves, without Bets to complain about.

Am I excusing Bets’ behavior? No. She was unappreciative to Tiffany’s efforts. But then, Tiffany was dismissive to Bets’ wishes. This makes them both flawed. It’s called being human.

Again, not making excuses for anyone. In broader perspective; Gunther made the costumes. T.K. made the dinner. What did Bets and Tiffany do? Tell everyone what they wanted. Both girls were inconsiderate on this point. Bets should have asked if Tiffany was okay with the pirate theme, instead of bulldozing through. And Tiffany should have told Bets of the change in venue, instead of assuming they would just accept because, “Whaddaya gonna do?” ( Besides storm out? )

This is the beginning of the end for G&B.

I feel that we still don’t know Bets (I REALLY don’t like that name). She’s into cosplay and social media. When is she herself? She showed up through a dating app, and had no previous connection to anyone. She’s a business major (right?) Maybe she’s just a flat character, or maybe G&K have not detailed on purpose. I think it is safe to say that she has moved to major character role, which is why I am confused about the lack of development…. she almost feels like a throw back to the Knute and Mrs Phelps- one layer of personality, simply designed for character development of the major characters.

Ohhh… the metabolism of teenagers.

We are seeing Bets at her worst. I hope she realizes the fans move on but Gunther is a keeper. It’s never rewarding playing to the crowd. Now, I hope tomorrow’s arc doesn’t show smoke coming from Tiffany’s house. TJ can be inflammatory.

Tiff in not making clear what she was offering (a classy dining experience) and Bets in assuming that because she is buying, she gets what ever she wants. Beginner mistakes. Don’t ask Walmart to replicate a $10k wedding cake for $50.00. They can’t do it. Don’t expect the French Laundry to serve franks and beans. They won’t.

I’m amazed the Beanie Weenie meal is so neat. I don’t see any bowl that it came in and there is no trace of messy food on the trays. You’d think there would be sauce or beans on the tray.

I wonder if this is how Shannon will act when she grows up. Obviously no one ever said No to Bets or taught her how to behave. Shannon is cute sometimes but she will turn out like Bets if no one teaches her how to behave.

Outside of Halloween, I don’t think I’d be eating at Weenie World in pirate costumes, but they both are self described geeks I guess

I don’t want them to break up, I simply would like to see Bets develop and expand as a character. While it annoys me how self-absorbed and oblivious to others she is, she also has likable traits. I hope her character sticks around, but with a little more self-awareness.

I think GnK are doing with Gunther what they did with Tiffany in the Awful Annie arc. Not as drastically by any means.

But GnK have signaled Bets dominating character from the very first. Consider:

This is also the era where much attention was paid to Bets’ skin tone. Compare April 6th to June 12th for example.

SO! There should be no surprise here! In GnK’s eyes Bets has dominated this relationship from their first date and apparently, will continue to do so. Perhaps there will be a series of break-ups and reconciliations with this couple. That would be a way to stretch out the drama. It worked for Brad and Toni and for Luann and Quill.

I’ve voted up all the comments, because I’m enjoying the argument.

Saturday, two possible outcomes:

1. Gunther returns to the table and says, “We’re done.”

2. Bets leaves the table and realizes, “What have I done?”

Second panel, the light is slowly coming on in Gunther’s mind.

In all actuality (Mord), I do not want this relationship to end and i would wish that after Bets has fully vented Gunther calmly states his views. he may have anger outbursts to Les and Irma (in the past), but Bets is his girlfriend and that’s different. Right now he is just processing things.

This relationship (Gun & Bets) is engaging and it contributes alot to the strip. It’s also common these days (especially on college campuses). Moreover, Bets and Tiff actually have a lot in common despite their different cultures and upbringings. It is never lost on me that Bets helps Tiff with her classes (not to forget she helped Tiff sell the lingerie to get $ to pay for expenses…. yes she took a generous cut for herself and Gun). If Tiff was smart she would have found a little piece of pirate memorabilia to put on the table (a little ship wreck model) that Bets could take home as a gift. It might have avoided a lot of this angst and it would not have destroyed the romantic atmosphere that she wanted to create.

Without Bets & Gunther and Tiff & Bets, this strip would lose a lot of flavor. I want it to stay

Bets and Tiffany are unfortunately “over the top” currently in my opinion….

1. While we have known that Bets is “all about” her social media presence, I am not liking that Greg is having delve even deeper into being TOO MUCH about her social media presence. I am wondering/worried that Greg is aiming to break up Bets and Gunther…. and I would be quite disappointed if that were to happen. But, in the same vein, I am a bit disappointed that Greg is pushing Bets’ character into an even more extreme position than it had already been regarding social media.

2. While we know that Tiffany is all about kind of “hare- brained” ideas (gosh, in some ways she is like TJ !!!!), her immediately jumping into a SECOND rendering of her “special meal for two concept” is IMO even a bit too “hare-brained” for even Tiffany. SHE needs to dial it back a bit and remember this is/was for a school assignment. Messing up her McMansion again for another one of these “adventures” really makes no sense for her at this point.

In terms of today’s swiping of fries by Bets…. I have to admit I do find that a bit irksome when my wife or kids have done that with me…. but it is a minor annoyance at worst. Gunther is doing the right thing at the moment… getting some more for himself, and then he should also come back and gently try to break through Bets’ laser sharp anger focus and explain to her that gobbling down his food was not really a kind thing to do.

Hmmm this may not end well….for Bets if she’s not careful.

Be easy on Bets fries and ice-cream are the best comfort foods when feeling stressed. She probably ate hers and his without realizing it until Gun said something.

Bets needs to grow up and be mature about it, just like Gunther. Tiffany may have not made it the way Bets wanted, but she did try to make it romantic nevertheless.

It’s so easy to point out what you think are someone else’s flaws. Perhaps someday Bets will look in a mirror and see her own.

Bets is a shallow two-dimensional character who needs more of a positive role. The fact that Bets and Gunther are an interracial couple is provoking an unfavorable response from Luann’s many readers. Few if any indications are given regarding Bet’s parents, siblings, background, or motivation behind her actions. It is a good bet that she is simply a stand-in replacement for Delta James.

I don’t think that Gunther cares as much as Bets does.

The most selfish people tend to be the least self-aware.

I don’t think Tiffany did what she did out of selfishness, more out of loving arrogance. She thought she knew better than bets on how to give bets what she wanted.

Gunther MAY be starting to wake up and see Bets for who/what she really is.

Tiffany stopped ranting, enjoyed the fantastic meal, and is looking forward to a second attempt. Bets continues to beat a dead horse. Truly insufferable. I liked Quill with Luann. They shared a passion. I think she and Jack have great rapport. It’s a shame that relationship didn’t blossom.

Don’t blow this, Guns — she’s still the second-hottest lady in the strip. Tiffany IS self-centered, and Bets DID make a deal with her. As for the fries and the surprise tailoring job, well, with exotic girls like Bets, there’s some BS the boyfriend just has to put up with.
