Since I presently do not have a feline furbaby, I will donate to our local pet shelter instead! Georgia, much congratulations on 10 years of Breaking Cat News! Thank you for bringing so much joy to us with your wonderful stories and artwork! I hope to enjoy your work for MANY more years to come!
IT’s been a long ten years. I have something in mind for the 10th anniversary, but for now my faviorite broadcast is still “She’ll never love you!”, though a close second is “Reports of slander”. “Do I look like a siberian witch?”.
I have many favorite strips saved, but hands down, no contest, my favorite is the Peep Toad Jamboree! Makes me smile every time. Also, brings our dear Bill Jackson to mind. https://www.gocomics.Com/breaking-cat-news/2022/07/16
Thanks for the encouragement, Lupin. I’m such a klutz — and my tiny apartment is so crowded — I can knock things over every day by myself, no feline assistance required.
Difficult to pick a favourite. I always go for the expensive cat food broadcast, but then start asking myself whether I like the broadcasts which involve them wearing dark glasses for anonymity better. And there there’s….
I love all the strips, but the ones I go back and read every year are the Our IX Lives Christmas Special arc. I about choked laughing when I saw that the motorcycle and ambulence were cardboard boxes with a motorcycle and an ambulence drawn on their respective sides. And the limo was two boxes taped together, with a limo drawn on the side. And the cool high speed chase through Laundry Canyon was brilliant.
I enjoy the GoComics version, but the raucous energy of was lost.
My very favourite broadcast will always be “The Woman is reporting in the Nursery”: http://www.breakingcatnews.Com/comic/the-woman-is-reporting-in-the-nursery/No matter how many times I read it, I can’t help but laugh out loud about Lupin’s shock and horror at learning how kittens are losing their mittens, Elvis’ outrage at “cow propaganda” when he hears how a cat played the fiddle to commemorate the cow’s scaling the moon, Elvis’ insistence that he never poops (heh! yeah right!!), and the boys’ shock to hear a cat married an owl to which Elvis declared these are just tabloids! LOL!! :D
Too many favourites to list, though early ones include Elvis in the koala baby sling, and Puck crying for joy when Buzzy Mouse is found under the big red couch. I think everyone loves the scene when Winnie and Freddie are reunited.
OK, I named some of my old favorites. New favorites include Beatrix’s keeping the minutes of the station meeting; Sophie’s discovery of Lady Jane’s diary; the whole World War Mole arc with single favorite panel showing Thimblefist’s heroic action to save Princess Magazine and Beatrix from Wicket; and any strip with one of Georgia Dunn’s stunning night sky drawings. Best use of humor is Burt asking Baba “Why is there a racoon in my coffee cup?”
The time Tommy took in Elvis for Christmas. Broke my heart how much he missed his woman. And then Elvis redeems himself (from all the negative comments he had made about Tommy in the past) by reuniting Tommy with his family!
My boys get treats, before I go to work. Haven’t got the books yet, but I will! Already donated money and food to local cat rescuer! One of my favorite BCN strips-When Lupin kept shutting off the power strip, while the Man was working! Last one is easy, because I am a cartoonist!
By far my favorite is the " A very Tommy and Elvis Christmas" (my title for that arc). It makes me get weepy every time. I would love to see it as an animated special.
My first BCN book was “Breaking Cat News: Cats Reporting on the News that Matters to Cats.” It was a gift from my sister. She found it in a bookstore and thought it looked cute. Neither of us had heard of BCN at that point. Thank Cat for the interweb and technology (and Go Comics) where I can now keep up to date on everything in the BCN world!
As you have read, this year we celebrate ten years of BCN. In past years, on BCN Origination Day, I have liked to post a link to a piece that Georgia wrote describing the early days. That was posted at her Georgia Dunn Studio site, which appears to have gone offline. However, the good folks at Internet Archive managed to capture the webpage when the piece was still up. You can read it here:
(And, as an added bonus, if you scroll down, you can read a piece about Georgia’s cat, Roscoe—-known to us better as Cat. As in the phrase: “Oh my Cat!”)
My fave… oh that’s a toughie. I love best the ones that truly capture felinity. Without extensive research, my fave I recall is (my title) “The Food is Always Better in the Other Bowl.” The cats want to try another’s (same) food, and they push each other over. One day I’ll embroider that saying on a pillow. Here’s to another 10 years, BCN!
Favorite…Sunday strip starring Sophie. She is depressed by negative reviews of her work until Tommy brings her a fan letter in which Puck is praising her work titled “Change”.
My favorite has been the mole arc. After much conflict, we met some new friends and it all ended well, even for a certain owl who got better than he deserved.
I love them all, but I think my favorites are the ones with the mailman and the Mole War arc. (Currently I’m a mailman and I am a Veteran, so I’m wondering if that might have anything to do with it? LOL!) (More mailman arcs please.)
Queen Catshepsut the Golden: As Queen of Egypt, would like to welcome their majesties from three realms: Queen Mags of Afar, King Cadbury of Away, and King Montgomery and Queen Lisa of the Mole Tunnels. Welcome one and all!
Applause
Queen Mags: Thank you, Your Majesty. On behalf of Their Majesties and I, I wish to extend our congratulations to you and your realm on your Tenth Anniversary.
Queen Cat: You are most gracious. And now, an exhibition of tumbling by Lupinium and his class of advanced tumblers. With music by Ora Z and her band Mallets Towards None.
Sometime Later
Elvis-Anum: It gives me great pleasure to introduce the Getting Better Kittens with their latest dance routine.
Puckmosis: I understand Elvis did the choreography for the kittens.
Queen Cat: And now, our sumptuous feast!
Delicious Food Arrives
Queen Cat: And how better to end the feast than with Iggy’s 47 act opera. With tea and scones throughout.
Lovely! My favorite broadcast in the old days was the tiny man trapped in the TV, but I also love the V&V arc and the Halloween arc that introduced Iggy and Ora Zella.
I see that the cats have turned into blatant capitalists. Just trying to figure out which one of the cats is Randolph Duke and which one is Mortimer Duke.
I love the classic style Tommy welcoming spring… “This stuff, That guy!” Tis the season to put it as my work background. Tommy in general. Also Our IX Lives
It is impossible to choose just one, and why should we? We can enjoy them all, and go back and reread and find more we like, that somehow we missed the first time. That being said, one that comes instantly to mind is the story arc around finding the ghost kitty. It reads like my favorite Nancy Drew, complete with haunted house and detective work! It had great excitement and drama, with the discovery of the body of the little cat to her later reunion with her mistress, and the whole ghost contingent that live at the BPH!
I’ve been following since the beginning. I don’t remember how I found her original site, but it connected immediately. Could it be my wife and I have had multiple cats for twenty years and our cats always report, “The man has brought home a bag of fresh food!”
Happy Birthday, BCN. I was still working back then. I had to get up at 3AM. Every Monday and Thursday, the second thing I’d do (start the coffee being first , of course) would be to jump online and see if BCN had posted yet. Congrats Georgia. Our lives and our cats mirror each others more often than not. Thank you for making me laugh about it. (Off to the vet with my sick “Puck” aka Franklin.)
While I loved the group picture on Sun I’m so glad it is just the 3 boys today! Thank you, Lupin for inspiring your woman to create BCN, we are forever in your debt! and thank you Georgia for taking a chance on doing this. it took/takes great courage to put yourself out here like this every day and we are so very grateful. you may never know how many lives you’ve touched and made better by providing laughter and tears and by providing an opportunity for a community that emulates your kind, gentle and compassionate nature to grow. i pray that you enjoy as much success and prosperity as you want, and that you will want to create stories for BCN forever.
My favorite episode is where was a battle with Wicket, especially where Beatrix knocked down a lamp post or something. Also, I draw my cats for BCN10, but they are not quite reporters but more like translators ;) You can find it on Instagram with hashtag #bcn10
Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, Remington Steele, Jessica Fletcher, Magnum PI, Nancy Drew, Senor Columbo, Miss Marple, Lovejoy, Miss Fisher, and ‘Cyndi Lauper meets Katharine Hepburn,’ ‘cuz Girls just wanna SOLVE MYSTERIES! I ordered the print off the website. It’s matted, framed and hangs front and center, right over the Sloth Couch, in the Wreck Room.
In addition to the ones I listed yesterday: “The ceiling is a floor too, if you believe hard enough.” and Tommy reporting the start of Spring. Also, Beatrix doing the coffee run to the cats on the wall, with tea for Trevor.
I have long maintained that the first St. Patrick’s Day strip is my favorite. SO MANY GAGS crammed into one strip. Georgia did a good job fitting it into a Sunday strip (March 18, 2018), but the original web comic, which has more room to spread out, is my favorite:
Hard to picks favourite. Owl just says anything with Lupin in it is works for me. Plus when Elvis is first become a bureaucat. And me is likes it when Puck or anyone else (excluding them pesky pests who is harbingers of the plague that is) is steals em hoomins foods. Me can connects with that one.
It’s so hard to pick a favorite strip! I think it might be the original “The People moved the couch”, which was the first strip I stumbled upon and brought me into this wonderful world. Any strip where Lupin is wearing The Hat of Adventure is glorious.
Lupin’s Elton John impression never fails to make me laugh out loud. Any story with Freddie Quinn never fails to make me cry.
Thank you, Lupin, for knocking everything off the shelf and bringing us a decade of joy! May there be so many more!
One of my favorite strips was from 2014 I think. It was the Christmas episode where Elvis got out and was lost in a snow storm. Tommy rescued him and eventually returned him to his house. This was a great strip that included the now famous Tommy Baum and returned Tommy to his woman.
In honor of 10 years of BCN I’ve temporarily changed my avatar to one of my favorite photos of our beloved Fuzzball. He passed over the rainbow bridge 2 years ago but we still miss him like crazy. He raised DeeDee (the Yorkie)and she still is not entirely sure she’s not a cat.
My favorite is during the broken owl investigation. The exact moment being when Puck goes from cabaret singer to lounge singer. I always knew I’d go from bags to boxes!!!!!
I don’t know if “favorite” is the right word, but the BCN I re-read the most has got to be The Shelter Report. That is one perfect piece of news reporting.
I just discovered BCN last year and I love it with my morning coffee while my cat, Mozart, tries to nab my attention. Loving the whole bunch of cats in the big pink house!
I haven’t been reading comments in a while, as I’ve been busy – but, happy 10th anniversary to Georgia and the gang! I’m very glad to be part of the Orb, even if it’s only occasionally.
OT: I am NOT happy about the blatant anti-cat propaganda in Arctic Circle this week over at Comics Kingdom. Shame on you, King Features Syndicate! >:( Thankfully, we have this wonderful comic that portrays cats in a much more positive light. The world could use more Georgia Dunns and less Alex Hallats. Happy Tenth Anniversary, Breaking Cat News! :)
I have so many favorites. Many have been mentioned, and since it took me a long time to get to the end of the comments some might have been mentioned that I didn’t see yet. Some of my other favorites are the one where the people dress Elvis like a lamp, October 5, 2015. The Sunday strips when the Robber Mice are planning their pie heist and Lupin decides he is “gonna crime”, November 17 and 24 and December 1, 2019. And like others said way more than I could possibly list.
Like many others I love the story of Elvis getting out and lost in the snow and being rescued by Tommy including the introduction of the Tommybaum! Also the Mole Wars arc. And possibly my favorite of favorites when Puck climbs up the dumbwaiter shaft and accidently gets trapped in a steamer trunk full of Winnifred Quinn’s things and ends up getting rescued by the ghost of Winnifred Quinn herself after the cat’s can’t get the trunk open!
One of my favorites was recently when Goldie was trying to figure out how to team the crew she wants to be a detective. I’m struggling with my choice of career. It really hit home that I could “Wear the donut!” if I wanted to. >
Happy 10 years and hoping for many, many more! Every night before bed, I read Breaking Cat News books then we feed our kitties treats. I just finished what is still my favorite book in the series, “Elvis Puffs Out” for what must be the 25th time or so. The rescue of Beatrix and her introduction as a very productive intern are favorites but so is learning Trevor’s name and realizing the joy he will be having shortly. If I have to choose one very favorite strip from this epic comic, it is the one in which Ora Zella introduces herself to Beatrix, “unusually small and virtually indestructible.” My heart bonded once again with a kitten.
Our Jasper played “Leapin’ Lupin” for us tonight—he managed to tip over a water bowl, food bowl and the table it was on—all in the haste to be first at the food! Cat Chow, water and other stuff everywhere, with Lup—er, uh, Jasper calmly in the middle of it all snacking on the kibble.
I love the one from April 1, 2021. The Robber Mice are imitating the BCN Crew and Violet doesn’t want to be Elvis. So cute! Took me a beat to get the joke, but laughed aloud when it finally dawned on me that it was April Fool’s Day!
One of my all time favorites is Puck in his Alpine climbing outfit with the hat and the Wanderstock. My recent favorite is Angus with the light, leading Ora Zella and Iggy to their new home.

I will re read all the books in order! My favorite episode was when the people finally realized Goldie was outside and brought her in!

My favorite broadcast was the one where Elvis was broadcasting the weather but it was based on birds

Not a cat strip, but I adore the Sunday strip in which The Girl and the geese send hearts to one another.

One of my favorite strips was from 2014 I think. It was the Christmas episode where Elvis got out and was lost in a snow storm. Tommy rescued him and eventually returned him to his house. This was a great strip that included the now famous Tommy Baum and returned Tommy to his woman.

So many favorites:
December 31, 2023 (Thimblefist about to smite the nasty owl)
April 22, 2022 (Disco party)
August 4, 2019 (View from the bathroom window)
August 8, 2021 (Local artist uses water color to create temporary masterpieces on the linoleum floor, featuring the artist, Sophie as a mermaid!)

If any of my cats ever jumped up onto the mantle over the fireplace there would be a major knock down. It’s way too high up but never say never.

My favorite broadcast is when the Robber Mice held Buzzy Mouse for ransom during the Christmas season.

In honor of this anniversary, do we get to see the cats that inspired this?

My favorite is during the broken owl investigation. The exact moment being when Puck goes from cabaret singer to lounge singer. I always knew I’d go from bags to boxes!!!!!

I don’t know if “favorite” is the right word, but the BCN I re-read the most has got to be The Shelter Report. That is one perfect piece of news reporting.

More than anything else, I would like to thank Georgia Dunn for 10 years of Breaking Cat News. I hope we have at least 10 more years!

Maybe we can donate to Georgia as a way to celebrate. ❤️ ☺️ Make sure she has money to survive.

My favourite story arc is the cats’ battle, then truce, with the vacuum cleaner. It solidifies Puck’s place as best kitty. >

One of my favorites was recently when Goldie was trying to figure out how to team the crew she wants to be a detective. I’m struggling with my choice of career. It really hit home that I could “Wear the donut!” if I wanted to. >

I love a bee in the bathroom. When it lands on Elvis’ nose it cracks me up.

To the left is my painting of the ever so handsome Reboot. I haven’t really done him as a cartoon though. At least not yet.

I loved the strip where Angora said to Kit “You climbed two stories!” And he said “I’d climb a whole novel for you, girl”. So romantic!

First favorite was the woman frying bacon draped in cats sayin Mam. Later I loved Elvis falling in love with the girl. Many, many more greats.
