Are we really to believe that Luann wouldnā€™t have been talking to Tara and Piro, this past week, about going skydiving with them??

The Jumpinā€™ Jacks instructor has it right. Get new friends, Luann!!

I hope she goes through with it. At the least, she could rib them both as ā€˜chickensā€™ and she was the truly brave one. ;)

    .

So is it possible that Frank will show up at the last minute to go skydiving with her?

Tara joins Stef as someone who deserves a real beat-down for screwing over someone. But Stef never got much of an criticism and I bet Tara wonā€™t get much criticism and Luann will not cut her off as a friend.

Taraā€™s failure to tell Luann about bailing on the flight is all the more unaccountable because she and Luann are by all accounts still in Mrs. Horner Creative Writing class, see each other 2 or 3, maybe even 5 times a week.

Please do, Luann. Lose Tara. I doubt Piro was involved. Tara probably told him to forget it and he was agreeable. It was her idea so Piro let it go and probably assumed Taraā€™d tell Luann. After all her idea and her friend.

Yes. Please do that, Luann. The cast of this strip needs some serious pruning on awful ā€œfriends.ā€ The ironic part is a week ago I said I thought Tara was entertaining, but now she just seems like a malignant bully picking on Luann cause Luannā€™s an easy target. Youā€™re telling me you wanted to set up a GROUP skydiving adventure and ā€œforgotā€ to inform Luann? This is some hazing nonsense.

I feel like itā€™s tiring how most Luann characters just let the other characters behave like the worst people and still let them hang around them and invite them to things. I wish the Evanses would stop with the ā€œKarma Houdiniā€ stuff cause the lack of consequences are getting harder to ignore.

Also I hope Frank comes to do skydiving with Luann. Maybe Bernice too for good measure since itā€™s been insanely long since Bernice has behaved like an actual friend to Luann and it would be nice to see her do something other than point out how much Luann fails at everything.

Also, this woman looks like Judy Funnie from Doug all grown up.

Hopefully this is not a plot device to phase Tara out of the strip. I think Delta, Rosa and Crystal were phased out because there didnā€™t seem to be any interesting path forward for them in the Luann saga. On the other hand, Tara represents someone who might help nudge Luann out of the DeGroot nest to do some real world stuff. At this point, I find myself wishing that Tara and Piro decided not to jump and didnā€™t think Luann would go ahead pretty much on her own. On the other hand, Tara and Piro might have jumped early without telling Luann because they kind of pressurred her into it and they didnā€™t want to be responsible for any potential accident to Luann. It would have been hard to jump early and let Luann know afterward when Luann clearly had said she decided to jump with them. I think they kind of hoped that Luann wouldnā€™t proceed if she hadnā€™t been in touch and the whole issue would fade away. Itā€™s a common human failure to avoid an uncomfortable situation, with the final result being something worse.

Luann is rightfully angry that Tara and Piro forgot to tell her they bailed, but luckily that doesnā€™t seem to have made her decide not to jump. She will do it alone and for herself, Go Luann! I like the JJ employee (pilot?) more and more. She listens impassively to Luannā€™s drama telling her what she thinks with great honesty. I wonder how many times she have found herself in similar situations with customers. I would love if she became one of Luannā€™s new friends.

Well, transfers are allowed ā€“ there should be a reason this is written in the background. Who will take Taraā€™s/Piroā€™s place then? This could be the only reasonable way to bring Frank in (because frankly, him just inviting himself and tagging along with the 19-year olds would be weird). But on the other hand, itā€™s Tara/Piro who should be doing the transfer ā€“ and most likely, Tara (since she was the one that made the booking). And since thereā€™s a good chunk of money involved, she may have already done the transfer and someone unexpected pops up next strip!

The one good thing is that Luann seems determined to go through with it (ā€œif I surviveā€ implies she is still doing it).

Second that. Neither one of them are truly her friends. However, part of this is on Luann for not confirming plans with them. If I was doing something this major I would be checking in at least a few times during the week leading up to the jump.

By the way, the jump in nonrefundable, so where did Piro and Tara each get $200 to burn?

All that stands between the jumper and death is his ripcord. (With apologies to the Ripcord television series, 1961-63, United Artists Television and ZIV Television Productions)

A thing about signs for those who mentioned yesterdayā€™s and todayā€™s.Yesterday it was a desk sign, today you are seeing a wall sign.It is actually ā€˜possible* 2 signs can live in the same universe.

Sir Issaic Einsteeen McFurgin III postulated that very thing in 1897 in Saskatchewan, right after winning the ā€œSkin your own live rabbitā€ CONTEST (banned today). He got drunk, fell on his a s s and was carried out on a tabletop to the local constabulary, who transferred him to the morgue, during which time he protested loudly, ā€œIā€™m not dead you idiots!ā€ But since he was correct that they were indeed idiots, they took him anyway, and he had to spend the next 45 minutes explaining the coroner, that it was NOT his idea to be brought in to the morgue for a bruised rump.

There was a sign that said ā€˜no one not dead allowed beyond this pointā€™, which was strange, as how could a dead person comply knowingly, since after all they are , well, dead? Upon looking around and seeing another sign that said "all dead people will immediately lay still, so as to not confuse the staffā€™.

Sir Issaic, not currently meet either criteria, and looking around, saw there were 2 signs in the same room, however absurd they were (it turns out the coroner had a very dark sense of humor), was astounded!Even under such drunken, dire constraints, Sir Issaicā€™s brilliant mind deduced that a 3rd sign needed to be created, to allow living staff to go beyond that same point in order to do their work. Although that should have been obvious. people argued that if was not explicitly written down it didnā€™t happen. (Sound familiar?)

Sir Issaic came to his momentous conclusion about signs, and after much arguing, mostly with the idiots who brought him, he was free to go and publish his findings, and it became more and more commonplace to see multiple signs in the same rooms in all kinds of establishments.

Nowadays we see all manner of signs everywhere. It truly is amazing!

Luann can wright about her jump, her idea, her fun, her pie in the sky. Tara canā€™t steal that fun or Luannā€™s writing. And if Luann finds a guy to steal her heart thatā€™s more than those Goff balls on the ground playing with her head. And if the jump is filmed that can go along with her writing the kids back at the school will think she is the greatest. When I was in High school I was a Naval Cadet I traveled all over the world I had a lot of fun on my adventures met a lot of great people. My Mother had pasted away in September of this year and my Brothers and I are getting the house ready for sale and yesterday we found the old letters when I wrote to her. When I got back to school the kids all needed to hear what I did for the summer with my travels. The girls found out from one of my buddies that I had a French girl friend that summer very nice woman. That put me on the back burner for some time with them. My Mom saved my letters I read some of my letters what a nut I was. I only hope that she didnā€™t worry about me.

A lot of people here (myself included) comment/complain about how G&K portray Luann as immature. They say she should grow up a little, and act more like a 19 -20 year old, instead of a 10 ā€“ 12 year old.

But now you people want her to go skydiving with mommy and daddy????

    NO, NO, NO!!!!

Sheā€™s NOT a 10 year old who needs looking after. Better she should call Bets and Gunther and ask if theyā€™d like to go, if she doesnā€™t want to go alone, and wants friends along. Or Bets and Tiff if Gunther is too busy cleaning and oiling his sewing machine. They might just jump at it (no pun intended :D) since itā€™s already paid for.

If you survive, I would take her up on that. Tara is a real wierdo, being so obsessed over Piro. Most places donā€™t let first cousins get married.

    ā€œAM I SUPPOSED TO JUMP ALONE!?ā€

Why not? What would Tara and Prio add to the experience, other than Luann getting credit with them for doing something daring?

Is Luann one of those girls who always needs someone to go with her to do anything?

Here in the 21st century, there are plenty of young women who travel and do other things by themselves.

If you want to do it, do it. If youā€™re just doing it to impress your friends, forget it.

ā€œGet New Friendsā€ 100% Correct! Luann needs to understand the difference between friends and acquaintances. Tara and Piro are acquaintances, nothing more.

Two things that occurred to me as I read this strip (and the comments that followed):

    1) I think the definitely female representative (note the tilt to the blouse and the transition from waist to hips) is not the instructor, but the pilot. Note aviator sunglasses, particularly worn indoors, a la Tom Cruise.

    2) Has anyone not noted the sly correlation of the name of the facility? Jumpinā€™ JACKā€™S? No, not the obvious entendre about the exercise, but the GUY. We havenā€™t seen Jack in a bit, and while I donā€™t think heā€™s the titular owner of the business, it would be a clever pivot to reintroduce him to the strip and give him and Luann yet another adventure to draw them together, literally and figuratively.

    SWAG. Draw your own conclusions.

My first (and only) jump was at the age of 19 in 1971. There was a three hour ground school and a static line jump the next Saturday. No tandem. Weather delayed us another week, so when I called home my Mom asked me if I was doing anything dangerous. She went on to say that a fortune teller had told her someone close to her would die in a horrible accident. I said no, Iā€™m not doing anything like that. I didnā€™t really think about until a week later as I was preparing to jump. I made it.

How did a story line suppoedly about skydiving turn into endless conversations about friends?

She wonā€™t drop her friends, there will be surprises, she will sky dive. Thatā€™sā€™ as far as I will predict.

Iā€™ve been hoping she would kick Tara and Piro to the curb forever. Why does she degrade herself to have to try so hard to be friends with people who couldnā€™t care less about her and only get her into trouble, cost her a job she loved and constantly treats her like an outsider? Sheā€™s better off without them and they are the losers. I hope the guy she ends up sky diving tied to ends up being a gorgeous hunk who falls in love with her and that he helps her get revenge on Tara and Piro, the selfish narcissists.

It really makes no difference. I notice the sign offers transfer credit. Maybe she could trade for a flying lesson.

Yeahā€¦easier said than done. Make new friends who are in there late teens and have enough money and time to take up skydiving. Preferably female. Preferably with no significant other commitment. As a outdoorsy adventuresome gal myself, I found it was easier and more fun to get comfortable with my own company than to be waiting on other peopleā€™s schedules. Especially as I get older and more of my friends have kids and familyā€™s. But Luann could use any chainge at this point.

Iā€™m thinking one or both of the Evans must have gone jumping lately. Iā€™ve made over 1400 jumps myself and have never seen a better treatment of the subject. Especially this morning (Tues 12/5) with Luann gazing out the open door at altitude. I can feel the love.
