If Ann wasn’t floundering already, she’s panicking and flailing now.
It’s all her fault! If she hadn’t found the ultrasound that I planted in a house that I told her to dust and keep clean, you wouldn’t have known that I tried to deceive you! And that’s why she’s the bad guy! I just want us to be happy, and that’s why I lied to you!
It’s like a Disney villain during the 3rd act when all their plans come crashing down. She went from pleading, to anger, to sobbing in less than a minute. Toms not letting up on that death stare one bit and Tiff & Les are watching the wreck with a smirk. I love it.
Well now. I’m looking at a certain Burnett who probably wishes to H3LL she’d stayed in Japan. Amazing. Ann had all but won. Tom was ready to marry her. Les was jazzed about being a big bro. Even Tiffany was going to step back, do nothing and be prepared to let her father be “happy.” But oh no, Ann. You just HAD to rub Tiffany’s face in *SH*T by screwing up her room and making her do those stupid chores. Not to mention making that boneheaded move of taping that fake sonogram to the back of that picture. Epic Stupidity.
I just have two questions now:
1) Why isn’t Ann putting one foot in front of the other and running the H3LL out of there with EXTREME prejudice?
2) Why isn’t Tiffany or Les recording this joyous scene for posting to social media for ALL of Ann’s “victims” to enjoy?
And please Me that Tom wasn’t STUPID enough to have given Ann TOTAL control of his finances.
I’m amazed at how much Tiffany and Les have grown recently! Tiff was actually empathetic to Dad a few days ago, and Les, excited about a baby bro, was tender hearted.
Kinda called it yesterday “AND THEN end have her a stammering mess pulling the old “But you still love me Tom, don’t you? I can change, just give me a change to prove I can change.””
Okay, we still have time this week for Brad and Toni, Bernice, and Ox to make appearances to kick Ann before T.J. does an encore on Saturday of this strip:
The finish line is in sight, only baby steps away, Tom is determined. But, then there’s Greg, the man in charge, and judging from previous performances, it just ain’t gonna happen.
Now that Ann has turned on the water works it might be time to remind Dad of the time Tiffany tried to warn Dad about the Souffle scam but Ann cried her way out of.
Ann really just has the stability of a sand castle or a Jenga tower. Seems put together at first glance, but the second you get a good poke in, it’s all over but the (literal) crying. We’ve only seen Tom’s face from a few panels now, but it’s perfectly clear it’s taking all of his self-control to keep from exploding. I’m glad he’s standing his ground with confronting Ann, but I imagine once he and Tiffany are alone after Ann and Les are gone that it’s going to be a lot of pain and a lot of healing moving forward. At the very least he might now know that Tiffany wasn’t being a brat about his new girlfriend and she genuinely cared about his happiness and she only started (really) firing up when she realized just how evil Ann was.
At this point, I don’t even care of Tom goes as far as to sue Ann or anything close to it. I’m just looking forward to if/when he and Tiffany talk after the dust settles and their bond grows stronger. He could grow as a father and Tiffany has already grown as a person as a part of all of this. At the very least Tiffany has shown at this point that she doesn’t see her dad as a wallet, but as someone she loves and wants to be happy. It humanized her more than any of the high school strips did and she needed it. Like, I wouldn’t wish an Ann Eiffel on anyone and as frustrating as it’s been to endure, at least Tiffany’s development had plenty of time to seem organic instead of doing a complete 180 from high school mean girl to stressed victim in the span of a few months or something. She still has a bit of growing to do, but she’s definitely taking steps in the right direction.
I hope Tom, Tiffany, and Les get to unwind with a full spa day complete with a first class manicure after all this!
By the continued scowl in the last panel, I am assuming Tom did not buy Ann’s sobs of sorries. Stay the course, Tom. Don’t let her acting steer you off course. Listen to Tiff and Les – they know your fiancee better than you do. Order Ann to pack and go. While she is doing that, check your finances. While you are doing that, Tiff and Les will tell you about the Souffle scam, Ann closing Tiff’s credit cards, made her a maid, about to attack a child (Shannon), her threats to Bernice as her supervisor at Borderline Bookstore, Les’s life story with his mother….Tom will either turn off his computer after checking his accounts…and 1. call the police for draining his accounts, or 2. call Souffle to report Ann or 3. simply escort Ann out of his house into a Uber. I am leaning toward 1 or 3.
Now, before the week is out, will Tiffany and Les bring up the Souffle scam and that Tiffany tried to warn her dad then, but Ann got to Tommykins first and he refused to believe Tiffany? Will Tommykins have a serving of humble pie? How will he make it up to Tiffany? Still a few questions to be answered.
Does anyone else think it weird how gigantic Ann’s head is compared to Tom’s?
I’m just wondering what the logistics must be like of having to figure out who gets how many of whatever types of pillows may be needed when you are sharing a bed with a partner who has a pumpkin like that.
I think what’s so disappointing about this resolution is that Ann is displaying pretty much in all three panels, just about everything that everybody has been predicting for weeks.
I had thought by now, perhaps there would be a twist. There could still be one, but she’s lost so much ground today, it’s hard to imagine her digging her way out of this hole.
One: I agree with others that are concerned that Tiffany reconciling with Tom is a questionable thing. I have maintained all along that Tom and his money were not Tiffany’s friends. Perhaps that is the plot twist later this week: Tiffany says, “You’re welcome, but it really is time for me to break out on my own.” But I’m not counting on it.
Two: If Ann is as stupid as she is portrayed today, have we overestimated her all along?
I think the choice to finally show Daddy’s face was to make him more human. He has always been in the background with Tiff, and now he has a more solid role. Once this is over, I think he will be more involved in being around for Tiff.
BIPOLAR DISORDER (formerly called manic-depressive illness or manic depression) is a mental disorder that causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, activity levels, concentration, and the ability to carry out day-to-day tasks… I am pasting and copying this brief definition from the NIMH about bipolar disorder. Essentially this is a brain disorder, that does the above, and people suffer from it. Ann is not suffering from bipolar disorder, she is BEING sociopathic. DEFINTION OF SOCIOPATH a person with a personality disorder manifesting itself in extreme antisocial attitudes and behavior and a lack of conscience. GRIFTER PERSON Grifter. A Grifter, is somebody who can influence anybody, anywhere, at anytime, into doing whatever they choose to have them do, that will result in the grifter’s personal gain. Usually monetary, but really anything that benefits him or her somehow.
Okay Ann is a grifter person, not anyone suffering from mental illness (I know someone close to me I would die for that has this disorder, so I get upset when people misuse the term bipolar behavior) and this set of panels is the absolute BEST drawing of grifter behavior. GnK brilliant. And having the affected children of both of these not 100% emphatic parents, Ann being 0%, Tom being 49-60% able to stand there watching her implode because she can’t get out of her lie, blaming Tiffany, who she would murder if she could, is very satisfying. I hope this means not only that she leaves the Farrell’s and Les, but that she suffers serious consequences this time. I think the kids are showing growth to, although given the hall/study situation back in college Tiffany still needs to develop honesty and empathy herself. But she is not in the same universe as Ann, Ann is a very dangerous person.
Sooo, it is Tiff’s fault that you left an old ultrasound image where anyone could find it, then tell Tommy – boy that it “appears” that you are pregnant in a phony sham??
I was honestly expecting Ann to play a better recovery con than that. I’m disappointed in that. But JUST that. Sooooooooooooooooooo happy the chickens have come home to roost for her!
True. Tiff found the pic, but she didnt write that message to Tom on it. So either way Ann had already formed the plan to lie to him about being pregnant. Tom looks utterly unfazed in that last panel.
Again, I want to be wrong, but I don’t think Tom is strong enough to handle this, he’s going to cave to Ann’s manipulative ways. His high-dollar law practice has apparently always meant more to him than his daughter. He really showed his lack of character when he was content with Tiffany being Ann’s personal housemaid and b**ch. I don’t think very highly of him at all.
Not to impugn the writing of this comic. How does an adult woman not understand how to run the “I may be pregnant” scam? The character of Ann comes off here with the reasoning ability of you twelve year old..
I sure hope this won’t go south by Friday. If is so badly written that he so stupid as buy into the “it is all her fault for finding the evidence of my lies” This strip is toast.
I hate to see what Ann is going to cook up to try and destroy Tiffany, possibly Tom, after this. I’d love to say this is the last we’ll ever see of Ann Eiffel and good riddance, but I doubt it.
Tom: Nothing doing, Ann. I’m sick and tired of you manipulating me into being your boyfriend while at the same time make my daughter miserable. Plus, you’ve been forcing Tiffany to cool it with her money, making her work at The Fuse. I’ve had enough with you. The engagement is over and I want your ring back.
Ann: This is all Tiffany’s fault!!
Tom: No it’s not. This is all on you just like at Borderline Books and Weenie World. And I will not allow your behavior to continue towards me OR my daughter.
Tiffany: Serves you right, Ann.
Les: And I hearby officially disown you, mom. I never wanted you as a mother anyway since you abandoned me a long time ago.
Tiffany: And because of you, Ann, I gained 60 lbs.
Tom: You’ve gained weight, Tiffany?
Tiffany: And the whole world saw it except you.
Tom: I’m so sorry, Tiffany. I love you more than I do Ann.
Ann: This is unfair. (gives ring back to Tom) Mark my words, I will be back.
Les: Not as long I’m here living with Gunther, mom. And if you do come back, I will make sure you DO NOT perform another con as long as you live.
(Ann recalls the ‘you can’t con a con’ speech from T.J. not too long ago)
Ann: Grrrrrrrrrr! This is the third time I got my comeuppance. First, Borderline Books banished me to Japan, then Weenie World fired me after they learned of the taped conversation that T.J. secretly recorded, and now this. I am now leaving you guys FOREVER!!
Tiffany: Oh, by the way Ann. While you and dad were gone, I tossed out your good clothes from what used to be MY room that you, of all people, turned it into a fudging yoga studio with my stuff insides boxes.
Ann: You can have your room back… did you say you tossed out my good clothes?
I’m glad Greg decided to reveal Tom’s face going into this arc. The mystery face was a clever running gag, symbolic of Tom’s distance. But his facial expressions are crucial this week to illustrate that he is not buying Ann’s maneuvers.
So very many ways this can go. Personally, I think Tom is going to cave in to Ann and, as usual, let Tiffany know she can just go to he**. Or … he can ditch Ann forever. Or, once ditched, Ann can go back to running a hot dog stand, or even go to work for Luann’s Mom, who she also ticked off some time ago by being a snot.
The thing is, Ann could have gotten out of this so easily if she had just admitted her deceit (caused by insecurity), asked for forgiveness, and moved on. But she’s not capable of honest apology.
Even now, Tom would melt but for presence of 2 young people.
Looks like Finally Tom it’s able to see Ann for what she truly is. A manipulative, pathetic person who has no problem to accuse others for her “errors”. it’s over, isn’t it?
I’m happy that she MIGHT finally be caught in one of her schemes, but I’m also confused. He had put the ring on her finger before Tiffany revealed the ultrasound, so she obviously didn’t need to be pregnant in order for him to marry her. What am I missing?
Tiffany, Les this is what happens when one is deceitful to their friends and lovers. You know that you can never trust them again.Maybe Tiffany and Les will be invited to stay with Tom; in separate bedrooms of course.
Ann didn’t expect her scam to be exposed so quickly, so she’s sputtering and turning on the wetworks to elicit an emotional response from Tom. I hope Tom doesn’t relent, demands a straight answer from Ann and gives her the proverbial boot (Tiff can give her a literal one). But I hope G&K don’t revert Tiff to “Daddy’s Little Rich Girl”; she’s has shown tremendous growth over the past few years. I wouldn’t mind seeing Tiff & Gunther together but they both need to mature more.
Mordock999 – My take on your questions:1) Ann honestly does love Tom, but she has had such a track record of doing bad in the past and believing that she always had to be in total control to ensure her outcome, that she didn’t have enough trust in their relationship, and that Tom honestly did love her for her, believed in her in how she helped him out, supported him, and honestly helped his daughter to grow up – and that he would always love her for her, and take care of her, and it’s all just now starting to become painfully clear – she really did have the relationship she always wanted, and she was also responsible for throwing it away by not trusting anyone but “Ann Eiffel”.
2) Tiffany feels sorry for her dad – that strip a week or so ago, when she saw in a picture that her father was smiling, and genuinely happy. As much as she hates Ann Eiffel, she loves her father more, and feels sorry for him, this is not a time to rub his nose into this mess. And when you’re burned this bad, Tiffany knows that her father may become more reclusive to anything resembling love in the future, which may include her.
3) Doubt that Tom gave Ann any total control of finances, he probably shared them with her, and gave her a credit card.
Not your typical Ann Eiffel behavior when confronted. In the past she has been in a position of power and bluffs or bargains her way out of it. Wheedling and begging have not been part of her behaviors to date. She may still have an ace up her sleeve.
…and yes, I can see that she has no sleeves. Jeez. You people are so literal!
Oh-Oh, looks like Tom is not going for the sob job + apology move. Looks like Ann’s goose may be cooked this time around. If so, Yeah for the good side!! He may say either: dang it Ann, you do this again and you’re outa here (Or) Ok Ann this crossed the line, pack your crap up and get outa here!!!
a lot of people think Ann is really off her game. But if you think about it, this is the response of a devious, cheating person with no sense of morals or integrity who has come within a hair’s width of achieving the ultimate goal in life (from her perspective) i.e. marrying into extreme wealth through deceit and dishonesty, and taking control the finances of that household. Now she is about to lose it all. Of course she is crazy out of her mind. She’s like a feral cat who has been suddenly cornered. Every alarm receptor in her body is firing at maximum level. This is her gut level response when all else has failed.
Is it me, or does Tiff’s dad look modeled after Gov. Thomas E. Dewey? Remember? The guy Alice Roosevelt Longworth (TR’s daughter) cracked that he resembled the groom on a wedding cake?
There’s no going back, Ann. Tom’s hands are still in fists even if we can’t see them in the picture. There is no way abuse can be in a cartoon, so those fists aren’t going to touch Ann. If he hits the wall, they would go through its quality material. He is fuming. Ann ought to leave everything behind and hightail down the road without another word or sob.
OK, now we’ll see if the tears work like they worked the last time. Tom has already proposed even without the pregnancy so he might just decide he loves her too much to let her go, even with the lie.
The dumb thing (OK, one of the dumb things) is that this is wholly unnecessary. Tom had already proposed to her, so there was no need for Ann to claim that she was pregnant. When Tiffany showed Tom and Ann the ultrasound photo that she found while cleaning, Ann could just have come out and said (truthfully) that it was just the old ultrasound of her pregnancy with Les, and (untruthfully) that she keeps it as a memory of a happy time in her life. Problem solved, and the wedding would proceed as planned. So why did she say that she was pregnant???
It is still so surprising to me that Ann… who already HAD an engagement ring on her finger when the news of the ultrasound broke out…. did not play this a whole helluva lot better than she did. Since she already had the engagement ring she should have told Tom that Tiffany “ruined” Ann’s surprise…. that…. she WANTS TO have a baby with him, and have an ultrasound picture of the baby…. “just like this one I have of Les.” This would have been Ann’s smart move.
But, she blew that possibility by pretending the ultrasound was a pregnancy she now already was experiencing….. but that was just idiotic on her part. She would have to either fake a miscarriage or get pregnant awfully quick to attempt to keep that ruse going. That she did not think more quickly and act more creatively in her story…. is not typical Ann.
So… for all accounts…. it currently still looks like she is going to be booted out. BUT… I still cannot help but think this is too easy of a story route for Greg. I still think there will be something far more creative that he has in mind that will occur.
I do know that Schrodinger’s Dog, who has extraordinarily accurate prognosticating prowess says I am wrong about thinking this will not be Ann’s exit….. and I admit that SD may very well be accurate on that score….. but…. this end to Ann (and Tiffany’s troubles with Ann) just seems too damn simplistic to be what Greg has chosen IMO.
Even if one’s child is wrong, one doesn’t enjoy being reminded of the fact. When there is question regarding whether the offspring is right or wrong, parents are even less likely to like hearing it.
Ann is using the shotgun approach, blasting away with alternative excuses, hoping one hits home.
“The ultrasound…the gynecologist hasn’t gotten back to me with it. I just have the news and I wanted to give it to you in the best light. I do love and am proud of my son Les”
Tiffany’s father looks kinda like Freddie Mercury.
Ann is totally unbelievable here. I mean, I get that her world is crashing down around her and she’s panicking, but still. This schizophrenic reaction only digs her deeper…
My own life was nearly destroyed by falling for a witch like her. Please, for all of us dummies with our hearts on our sleeves, destroy Ann. Completely. Give us this one.
HMMMM, is the sports car he provided for Ann on a lease, and if not then whose name is on the title? Can’t you see her running off several days travel from them to a motel to try to make him regret losing her and then her car gets towed away while she sleeps? She can become a pool hall hostess like the good for nothing cousin on For Better or for Worse.
The skill with which Evans wrote this is great…and it shows how often clever scammers trip themselves up. Hiding the ultrasound was the mistake.., and leaving Tiffany to maintain the house added to it. This might have gone another way if Evans had just had Ann show Tom the ultrasound: Tiffany would have no reason to be suspicious, especially since she only found it after noticing that her father seemed to be in better spirits in the picture – and Les would not likely have tumbled to the scam, even if he’d seen the ultrasound later. Ah, what a tangled web..
Then Tom hesitates …starts felling sorry for her … and says – “Ann WAIT – let me call my good friend Simone and see if she will hire you as a salesperson in Paris for Souffle Lingerie. The kids told me you are good at that”. wink wink
Of course, If Tiffany hadn’t found the ultrasound (her backup plan), the deal would have been sealed with the romantic weekend engagement. The ultrasound being the PlanB in case there was no proposal.
Please, for the love a Comics, please don’t let Tom fall for Ann’s sob story and finally rid himself of that toxic woman. I know everyone loves a villain but this needs to end.
than a minute ago1) told ya she would cry, although I’d hoped it would be with true remorse. She does have “true remorse”, though for messing up, not for hurting people. 2) Other than Luann winning the lottery, another plot to get Luann back into the scene, would be a plot with Ann looking for revenge on Nancy for the offense of kicking her out of the fuse. Although we’ve prob all had enough Ann for a few decades. 3) Going by Greg’s scenarios of Luann in the future with Quill (remember those three choices) he sees her future as A teacher, married with kids. ZzZzz4) Tiff and Les’s expressions in last panel are inspirational!
Pins and needles waiting to see what he is going to do. Will he forgive Ann and take her back? Some do and regret it later especially if they rob you blind.
So far, Tom Farrell seems to be holding up against Annie Awful’s desperate attempt to keep the Money Grab—err, “Romance”—active. I hope he manages to stay strong. Hang in there, Tiff and Leslie….
I hope we’re seeing the last of Ann and that she never shows up in the strip again. And add me to those who want to see Luann starring in her own strip again. Isn’t it about time for another camping trip?

Les: Mom? For shame.
(Ann becomes more angrier)
Ann: I’VE HAD IT WITH YOU PEOPLE!!!!!
Les: Shut up, mom!
(Tiffany punches Ann in the face)
Ann: Why did you do that?
Tiffany: That’s not only for my father, myself and Les, but the same goes for Bernice, Brad, and T.J.. It’s over!
Ann: Fine, I’ll take my leave. And remember…
Les: You WON’T be back, and I’ll make sure of it.

3) Doubt that Tom gave Ann any total control of finances, he probably shared them with her, and gave her a credit card.

a lot of people think Ann is really off her game.

OK, now we’ll see if the tears work like they worked the last time. Tom has already proposed even without the pregnancy so he might just decide he loves her too much to let her go, even with the lie.
seismic-2 Premium Member over 4 years ago

Although we’ve prob all had enough Ann for a few decades. 3) Going by Greg’s scenarios of Luann in the future with Quill (remember those three choices) he sees her future as A teacher, married with kids.
